  1. Hi, Would anyone mind sharing a step by step guide on how to setup backups using unassigned devices and rsync? I am not too good with scripts so ideally an example would help. Thanks
  2. Is anyone able to point me in the direction of a guide to getting the backups setup? I have got unassigned devices running and an external usb hard drive with a disk share inside it called backup. I want to backup the array to this share.
  3. Does anyone have any ideas about backing up? Is there a guide somewhere for getting up and running? Thanks
  4. Hi all, I have been looking through the forums trying to find a way of backing up my shares to two external USB hard drives. I plan on setting up the backup to one drive then adding an extra drive for backup at a later date. What are the latest options for carrying out the backup and what do you recommend? I have seen a bit about using unassigned devices but I am not sure about what I need to do wit the scripts. Thanks Matt
  5. Hi Guys, I am trying to get something setup so I can wake the server remotely, I have got the Dynamix S3 sleep to work I just need to get a way to wake it now. I have tried to use solar winds WOL tool but it doesn't wake the system. I ran ethtool eth0 and I get this in the menu. Supports Wake-on: pumbg Wake-on: g I have tried working through the sleep setup page but not had any luck. https://wiki.unraid.net/Setup_Sleep_(S3)_and_Wake_on_Lan_(WOL) I am using a GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard which uses 2x RTL8111D NIC's would adding this ethtool -s eth0 wol g to the /config/go file work? thanks
  6. That is great information, thanks for taking the time to post. I will look into it.
  7. I understand that this isn't the best way to backup, I would have a local backup of the server onto an external USB hard drive. What is the best way to back up the array onto an external hard drive?
  8. Hi all, I am starting to get my head around the Unraid system and I am now onto backups and dockers. Can anyone point me in the direction of a method to backup the data on the full array onto a USB hard drive? Also can anyone recommend a way to backup my machines onto the Unraid server? I was thinking to create a user share called Backup for each machine then use the built in windows 10 backup to the network drive on the server. I might not do this if I can get my wife and son's to save directly to the server. Also I have setup a Plex docker which runs but it doesn't seem to have any media in it, I added the paths to the docker setup. Also is there a way to add more directory's to the docker? Turns out I was just tired and I have now sorted it, I just hadn't setup the Plex side of things Thanks again Matt
  9. Hi all, I am running the C3 sleep plugin and I don't think it is working correctly. I have added times when I don't want it to sleep, I was expecting it to wake the server but it doesn't but I will add a wake on LAN to my setup. I was also expecting it to put the server to sleep at midnight but it didn't put it to sleep. The sleep buttons that are on my dashboard will put the system to sleep (I am not sure if this is this plugin or the system buttons one) Thanks Matt
  10. Hi I have attached a diagnostic file, It seems to have improved today after I did a shutdown last night. although it is currently going slow (to be fair it is copying a lot of small files) xavier-diagnostics-20200125-2123.zip
  11. This shows how it is fine for a time then slows down. I have also noticed that only one of the CPU cores is doing anything.
  12. Hi all, I am wondering if anyone can help, i am getting a strange behaviour when copying files to my server. I am copying films from one of my systems to the server so most of the files are around 4gb. everything runs fine for 5 minuets about 60-100 MB/s then slow right down to 10 MB/s if I change something like setting a share to use the cache drive (one that I am not copying to) the speed will go back up to the higher speed. Thanks
  13. That's great thanks, I was coming to that conclusion and I was going to check some settings. Again thanks for everyone's reply's
  14. Hi all, I have ordered my 3x4tb drives. I intend to add 2 more drives probably WD red pro drives and then use them as the parity drives. My drives should be arriving tomorrow and I have gone through and started the setup of Unraid without the array. I have come up with a few questions and I hope someone will be kind enough to point me in the direction of the answer. The first is about security and passwords, I have setup some user accounts each with a password on the server, obviously these don't have any shares associated with them yet because there is no array. I have also setup a password for the root account. Is the server visible to the internet and with the passwords set is it secure? I don't have anything like a firewall other than what is in the Virgin Media router. I don't currently plan on having access to the server remotely at the moment and only on computers on the LAN will have access. I haven't got to this point yet but how do I access the shares on windows 10, I haven't seen anything on the wikki about this. do i just map to the shares in win 10? If I do this how do the passwords work for the users which have access to these shares? Is there a single sign on/ can windows save the logon information? How do I setup backup to an external USB hard drive, and does this drive count towards the licence? Finally is there a way to identify the drives in the array so if I get a failure I know which one it is, I was thinking or adding a disk and marking it, shutting down, adding a second disk and marking it and so on? Are there any recommended addons I should install?
  15. Hi all, can I upgrade the Unraid license at any time, is there any other differences between the different licences other than the number of storage drives?
