  1. Wait can you preclear more than 1 drive at once? I'm about to get 3 2tb EARS drives and that would be great if I could knock out all three at the same time, or at least two.. Would running 3 telnet sessions work?
  2. Looks like it went well, and I am getting emails on my gmail. Thanks Kricker, and thanks Joe for leaving the default entries in the package as gmail addresses, made it as simple as possible.
  3. I'm in the process of setting up an email alert setup in case my array bombs, and I am getting asked to install the C compiler when I install MAIL. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/519591/UNRAID/Compiler.JPG But the compiler package says you pretty much dont ever need it unless you have a swap file set up anf 1gb of ram. I have 1GB of ram, but I have no swap file. Will I be ok to compile the mail app? Not too amped to hear I could crash the server haha. Thanks in advance.
  4. So uhh, fingers crossed I get a good batch, because I just bought some! Looks like you can only use the promo code once. I tried to order a 2nd set and the code was refused. (1st order was with an amex gift card) EDIT: also you can revise the OP, the rebate got extended to the end of the month so this is still good till the 19th.
  5. I currently run a black parity 1tb drive along with several data drives, and writing to/from the black drives doesnt give me any noticeable incrwase compared to what others post on this board with green drives. I picked mine up for the warranty though since I plan to use these in different systems around the house as they become replaced (5 year warranty ) If I did it again though, I'd just get the green ones. If you want some superfast performance over long term archival, UNRAID isn't really what you should be using in the first place.
  6. Can you do this the other direction? Right now my desktop is in control of the UPS and then an extension cord runs to the UNRAID server in the closet. That would be badass if so!
  7. Wow, this is awesome help, thank you Joe! I removed the unraid_notify along with that job to check parity monthly since both seemed to have stopped working (probably because I never updated them. I ended up just installing UNMENU and it looks like there are options for both in there, so great. Revised GO config here: http://pastebin.com/wxZct4RK I ended up installing hdparm, Monthly parity check and I need to look into the email systems so I can send myself an email through gmail if there's a problem. I had a question, I noticed theres a SQL package in there. Could I use that in conjunction with this? http://lifehacker.com/5634515/how-to-synchronize-your-xbmc-media-center-across-every-room-in-the-house Should it technically match up in terms of instructions post windows installation? Next steps, figure out SQL, SABNZBD and sickbeard. Thank you again! EDIT: found this thread, hopefully its not too hard, I'll dabble in it later. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5874.0
  8. I set up my UNRAID server a few years ago, and came to the realization that while my version is current (4.6) all my scripts are obsolete. Is there a way I can revert back to a stock installation and delete all my addons without destroying my array? I have an old UNMENU installation (1.1 maybe?) and at this point I dont even remember which files are addons and which are stock. Is it possible to just start with a new installation with current key and things will be kosher? I feel like that would be a good idea to clear out old and busted scripts and update to the new hotness. I provided my go script here: http://pastebin.com/hRYGPL0R and my folder contents here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/519591/UNRAID.JPG Ideally I'd like to start over so I can start doing more with the server (sickbeard, SABNZBD) so I am assuming that its easiest to go back to original. Disagree? Terrible idea? Lay it on me. EDIT: actually, would it be ok to just trash everything but whats in the latest release zip, or does it generate files on its first launch?
  9. Yeah I was around when it was 15MBps transfers in the older UNRAID, but it sounds like I probably don't need one in the end if writes to the cache are only a few MB more. I was assuming it was like 70-80 or whatever the drive tops out at. My download speeds are also at about 30MBps from the server, is that abnormal?
  10. Based on what I have read, a cache drive speeds up writing to user shares. So for example if I had a "movies" share that was a share of all my movies, I could write to it, it would go to the cache drive, and then write to the share later. The shares spread the data out across the disks. I didn't want that to happen because I like to keep things consolidated and know where X is, so I just have been referencing my data by disk instead of shares. If I want to use a cache drive for this same purpose will it work or is it only for shares? So if I copied X to disk 1, would it be copied to disk 1 correctly at whatever interval at night I chose, or is it specifically only for the shares?
  11. Well then I'll be waiting! I hope it comes out in the next month or so though, I'm ok now but space is dwindling.
  12. Ok so I currently have 4 1TB WD Black drives (inc parity) along with a random 500 and 300 gb disk. I want to do a big upgrade and buy 3-4 2TB Drives, probably the EARS Drives and clear out those small discs and a few tb drives. So it looks like at this point I should WAIT until 4.6.1 comes out, then buy and install them without the jumper? I am in no hurry. Thanks!
  13. Not yet. It's right in the first sentence of the first post: "there have been no significant changes in the unRAID driver" I know its pretty much asking for a complete overhaul of the code, but this would definitely be something I'd look forward to also as a feature down the road.
