  1. OK, I noted everything and changed the SATA cable of the parity drive (it was different from the other 3 so I swapped it). Rebuilding parity now. Any notes on the hardware or is everything ok?
  2. Intel Pentium 4 with 2.35 GHz OEM motherboard MS-6583 from MSI 2 GB DDR1 RAM 250W Power supply S-ATA Raid Controller, 4 channel with Silicon Image 3114 chip 3x 3TB hard drive 1x 2TB hard drive What is the best procedure to detect which drive is which? Do I disconnect one at a time and start the server to see which one is missing? The 3 3TB HDDs are of the same type and I have no record :-( Although this time I will create one^^
  3. Hi there. I recently purchased the pro version to add up more drives to the array and ran 3 HDDs + parity just fine. Suddenly the parity tuned red and got diabled. I attached the syslog. Here is the smart status, I ran a couple of tests: Could it be that this is just coused by a crappy cable or the power supply not having enaugh power? Its a rather old computer with an PCI SATA expansion card (4 slots). Thank you syslog.txt
  4. New drive, ran two cycles, is everything okay? I get that 0 Sectors pending reallocation is good but I am always doubtful about those"pre-fail" values :-P preclear.txt
  5. That would work. The hard disk you are booting from cannot be part of the protected array, but you probably already know that. When upgrading you'll need to replace the bzroot/bzimage files on the hard disk, not the flash drive. you can probably put them in both places though. You could, if desired, also mount a hard disk's partition at /boot as described here; http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=23008.msg210384#msg210384 That way, the UNRAID labeled flash drive is used only for the license check. (you did not upset me) Joe L. Thank you very much, i was hoping for this :-) Cool idea to change the device mounted as /boot after the checks for the .key file have been performed... What files would I need on that usb drive? Only /config/go and /config/pro.key ?
  6. I am not trying to upset you, but I am still missing a final yes or no statement. I understand all the circumstances you described but I am still not sure if it matches my situation. From what you said I would say YES it works with the following setup: Copy all unraid content to the usb drive, name it UNRAID and give the hard drisk another name: The computer will boot from the hard disk, but mount the UNRAID labeled usb as /boot and it will work with the purchased key
  7. Thank you for your reply, but I am still strugeling to understand what the conclusion of this is :-D I already have unraid running installed and booted on a hard drive. Now, can I access pro features when I: -take a fresh usb drive with lets say GUID 123456 -purchase a pro licence .key file for GUID 123456 -copy the .key file to the hard disk currently running unRaid and shut down the server -stick in the USB drive with or without the unraid software files on it -start the server. Or simpler: Is there a way I can boot unraid pro from a hard drive with a key file purchase for an usb drive? Does unraid compare the .key file only with the device it booted from or also with others pluged into the system?
  8. I have tried kicker disks, its not an option since it takes ridiculously long to boot. I just wanted to know IF its possible that unraid read the guid of the usb drive while booting from an HDD. To me it sounds like it does but maybe some who knows can help us out :-P
  9. On my first days getting familiar with the software I asked on how to install it to a HDD, http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=22020.msg195191#msg195191 I assumed I could just use the usb drive only for the GUID like Joe L. said in his post? edit: Another topic http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9025.0
  10. no, I would like to use the GUID of the USB drive. Currently, my server can not boot from an usb drive but when I upgrade my hardware in the future I would like to use only the usb drive.
  11. Hi everyone! I am planing on upgrading to a pro licence and I was wondering what the procedure is if I have unraid installed to a HDD? Of course I would have to stick in the USB drive but where do I copy the licence file? To the hard drive or to the (empty) usb drive? And: Do I have to copy the unraid files to the usb drive even when I am not booting from it? I tried to search for this but there are way to many posts containing "hard drive" (what a surprise :-P )

I did a killall tvheadend and it worked! Thank you :-) Now I wonder why it all of a sudden started to block the disk when i try to stop the array...
  13. Thanks for your reply. I tried to shut down the stuck server with /sbin/powerdown instead of just powerdown but now that it is back online it still does start a parity check. I have only sickbeard, sabnzbd, ts3server and tvheadend installed and I never had problem stoping the array with them. I think it is one of them that prevents the unmount, because /mnt/disk1 is the only existing directory when unraid gets stuck and I have my .apps folder on there (no cache drive at the moment) How can I find out which one of these plugins is preventing the disks from beein unmounted? I think they all stopp when pressing the stop array button..
  14. Hi there, I know there are severyl threads about this on the forum but everything I tried did not succeed, so here I am: When I press the STop button unRaid says Stop SMB...Spinning up all drives...Sync filesystems...Unmounting disks...Retry unmounting disk share(s)...Unmounting disks...Retry unmounting disk share(s)...Unmounting disks...Retry unmounting disk share(s)...Unmounting disks...Retry unmounting disk share(s)..................... http://server:8080/sys_info?option=Open+Files says: Open Files (from /usr/bin/lsof /dev/md*) nothing further. It first happened when I started to use cache_dirs -w in my go script. At first I did not realize that I have to hit the button twice to actually stop the array (read that later on the forum) but even if I tried that it did not work out... No I have uncommented the line in my go script but the array still won't stop. All I can do is shut the server down via telnet. Question about this: I installed the powerdown package from unmenu but still unraid is checking the parity when it starts up. Isn't the pack supposed to gracefully shut down the server? Thanks
  15. I upgraded as soon as it came out. I have had no problems recently since I manually changed the permissions. So maybe its resolved... Thank you anyway, I will post when its happening again ;-)
  16. ok, I did this. But if this does the same thing than klicking the button in the webgui, it does not work on some constelations... (like I described in the first posts. Some directories stay on dr-xr-xr-x)
  17. Any Idea on that? I would use: find /mnt/disk1 -type d -print0 | xargs -0 chmod 777 find /mnt/disk1 -type f -print0 | xargs -0 chmod 666 Trying this on my TV Series folder helped me to resolve the problems from the first thread...
  18. Hey, here are the results of clearing an 3 TB drive I have been using for a year now. Is everything OK? syslog_3tb.txt
  19. I ran it several times and it completed with sync for every of my 2 disks :-( What if I set permissions manually to 777 for folders and 666 for files (like described on the explanation page for the New Permissions Utility)? How will this affect my SMB shares? can I still prohibit write-access to those files when I set it to 'secure'?
  20. Yes. If you make it hidden though nobody will be able to access it unless they know the path since they will not be able to see it just by browsing. That would be just enaugh for me. My actual problems still persist, does anyone have answers for those questions?
  21. Hey, my only user is 'moritz', so here I am: "Filme" would be visible/readable to others and "Bilder" would only be visible to me. I am curious though, how I can set the rights of a "guest user" on the network without username or any credetials set. I would suppose he has reading rights on public shares and no rights on private shares. But that isn't the case... Also, the Private setting is greyed out. Is that a Plus/Pro-Version-Thing?
  22. Some more Questions: [*]unRaid automatically creates a user share for every top level folder on each disk. If I don't want that how can I remove a specific share if it is not empty? edit: OK, i set them to "not export". [*]As which user do computers on the network access the SMB shares if they have no credentials set (and no matching username/password in unraid)? [*]Which permissions apply for the whole disks beeing exported to SMB? who can read or write there? [*]Why can every user on the SMB-network write (and change/delete files!!) to /disk1/Filme and /Filme (usershare) and no one (even not nobody) to /disk/Filme/Serien or /Filme/Serien? Still only my user 'moritz' should have write access.. :-( I simply want two kinds of permissions for my folders/shares: Visible Folders: Visible/readable to all users on the network, but they can not modify my files. Visible and Writable by me(moritz). Unvisible Folders: Only visible to me
  23. Hi I just cleared my 2TB drive and curious about the results. Is everything OK with it? I only ran one sycle since I've been using it for 4 years without problems... syslog_2tb.txt
  24. I looked at the syslog and it said that unraid can only mount NTFS partitions smaller than 2 TB... This drive has full 3TB formated as NTFS, can I still use the ntfs-3g package to mount it? Another thing that came to my mind over night: unRaids NFTS implementation does not support Unicode characters (most common öäü here in germany), does ntfs-3g keep those filenames when i copy files? That beeing said, would it be easier to just boot ubuntu on the server and copy the files from there? Is that even possible without harming the unraid filesystem? edit: I was almost sure that ntfs-3g did not support öäü-Unicode Filenames as a "ls" showed me "Mord\ ist\ mein\ Geschäft.avi*" instead of "Mord\ ist\ mein\ Geschäft.avi*". But i tried to rsync the file with "rsync -tv /mnt/imported_files/E/Filme/Mord\ ist\ mein\ Geschäft.avi /mnt/disk1/Filme/" and now it showed up in my share with the correct ä-Umlaut... I think i can try to copy the files now :-) It would be nice to have a confirmation from one of you guys, still not sure if I am on the right path :-P
