The Be Quiet website for the additional S-ATA power cable I bought does state 'For all modular be quiet! power supplies to really finish off your PC build.' How else would someone go about aquiring additional PSU cables if they ran out? I also see PC modders frequently replacing their cables with other specialty brands to color match their setups. Side panel is back on. Now to go about switching over the parity drive.

It was working before I shucked it and no it wasn't showing in Bios however I've got it working now but I don't know if it's because either I noticed the tape had slid down the pins when I originally plugged in the S-ATA power cable leaving the 3 pins partially exposed or that the S-ATA power cable I used has a few S-ATA plugs and the one I had originally connected when it wasn't working was different on the inside of the plug to the others on the cable and I'm not sure what type of plug it was as it says S-ATA like the others do? I'm having difficulty getting the side of the case on because one of the the PSU S-ATA cables on the HDD cage is sticking up out the case too much. The other drives are fine as those S-ATA PSU plugs have the wires coming out the sides but this other one the wires come out the top which creates a buldge due to the braided cable. I have a cable from another PSU I can use but I read you aren't meant to mix match PSU cables? So I'm looking at ordering this cable https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E7PA306/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 as my PSU is a Be Quiet Straight Power 11 550w Gold will this be ok to use as I notice Be Quiet have different models of S-ATA PSU cables such as CS-6740 and CS-3640 and others too.

I have 3 12TB shucked WD Elements drives that are working and have been doing for at least a year in my NAS. I have since swapped my NAS over into a bigger case and added a 4th shucked WD Elements drive but this one is a 20TB that I plan to make my new parity drive except it isn't showing up in Unraid and I'm not sure why this is. I have put tape over the 3 pins like I did the other 3 drives but I'm wondering if it is one the drives that doesn't need tape but even if that is the case that shouldn't be the issue right? The only other thing that comes to mind is the tape maybe got misaligned when connecting the PSU power. I have used 2 PSU power cables for the 4 drives with 2 drives on each cable. I've also tried connecting the drive not showing up to a different SATA port but that didn't change anything.

Planning on transitioning to 1 share containing multiple folders for the purpose of hardlinks. My new structure will look like this Data\Media\Movies\Movie 1\All Movie 1 files Data\Media\TVShows\TVShow 1\All Seasons\Episode files I would like for all episodes of a season to be contained together but multiple seasons can spread to other disks if needed which I think would require split level 4? However that would mean the split for the movies could end up having the movie file and the subtitle file on different disks if I have understood correctly? If that is the case what if in the folders for each movie was just a movie file nothing else? I'm guessing the files of Movie 1 for example wouldn't get spread to multiple disks because there's only 1 file (the actual movie itself) in the Movie 1 folder? What would happen if for example when Movie 2 is trying to be copied to disk 1 but it doesn't have enough space? Would it be put on disk 2 as Data\Media\Movies\Movie 2\Movie 2.mkv or would it just be Movie 2.mkv?

I currently have my individual shares set up under /mnt/user/ which I set up a few years ago now following people like Space Invader One however as I am now coming to set up sonarr and radarr I'm discovering hardlinks and why they are more optimal. So I'm looking into switching to using the following structure for my shares /mnt/user/data/ I have disabled all my dockers except for krusader which I will be using to move the files however I have a couple questions before starting 1 My unraid server consists of 3 disks (2 for data - Disk 1 and Disk 2 and 1 for parity) plus 1 small 500GB cache SSD. My files span both hard disks, I don't keep files of certain types to one disk, should I be aware of anything before I begin the move process? 2 Will I lose my Plex data (manual sorting, changing of art covers, etc)? I have downloaded the preferences XML from appdata but having looked at it, it doesn't seem to contain much in the way of organizational data. I disabled 'Empty trash automatically after every scan' as was advised from what I've read on this and I won't be deleting the appdata folder or moving it so am I right in thinking after moving over to this new share structure, pointing the plex docker to the new locations and re-start Plex docker everything will remain the same? 3 I have different split levels for some shares, how or will it be possible to keep these when moving to the new structure? As far as I can tell, only the root share can change split level which then applies to all folders created within it

I can access my Plex content remotely as have done this. I scan my unraid server from my desktop all on the same network using the internal IP. How do I do it over the internet?

What about plugins/docker like Plex are any of these able to put my server on the internet? And would you happen to know why nmap shows HTTP and HTTPS ports being open when scanning the IP of my local server despite having blocked them on my router?

I've seen several posts when browsing best practises for Unraid mentioning that It is a good idea not to have Unraid accessible over the internet. I was wondering how to do this? I downloaded nmap and scanned the IP of my local Unraid server and it says 80 and 443 are open but when I go into my router's settings and block them, doing a re-scan still shows 80 and 443 open?

But I did create a new sub folder under TVShows and added content to it and it went to the new disk as the original disk was full. What I couldn't do is add content to an existing sub folder under TVShows. What would be the less restrictive option (other than the 'as required')? Would it mess up my folder structure because I think that's why I set it up like that in the first place because I didn't understand split level so looked it up and read some posts here from awhile back (I forget what they were) I don't mean on my Unraid server I mean Windows 10 PC. I had 2 Explorer windows open - the source folder and the destination folder both had the same folder name but different locations on the PC. Initiated the move but the transfer stalled immediately. It eventually got going but said it would take 2 hours which didn't seem right for the amount I was moving so I cancelled the transfer. After checking the source folder, it was empty while the destination folder had some new files selected (as is the norm after transfer) I did a right-click and 'properties' check on the selected files and noticed the number of files was less that what I intended to transfer as was the total file size. Apparently it can happen having looked it up but has never happened to me before so just thought I'd ask while I was posting if anyone knew of a way to get the files back.

I was running out of space on my Disk 1 so added a second to the NAS and included it in the disks available to each one of my shares. I then added a bunch of new episodes to a TV show that already existed on my share but noticed the free space on Disk 2 wasn’t decreasing while the old Disk 1 was (eventually stopped because no more free space available) which I’m guessing is due to the fact the folder for the show already existed on Disk 1? If this is the case how do I move already existing shows to the new disk or is there way I can just have the new episodes go to the new disk? I tried the unbalance plugin, selected everything I needed, and the disks to and from, then clicked Plan but it just hangs while showing the colorful Google-esque loading icon at the top of the page. My TV shows share file structures is as follows… TVShows / TVShowName / SeasonNo / Episode01.mkv It has the share settings set as follows… As a side note I also attempted to move several shows back to my PC to add the new content in the hope that when I added it back to the NAS it would go to Disk 2 because I wasn’t adding new episodes to an existing show. Unfortunately, in the process of adding the new episodes to the folder the move process stalled so I cancelled it, but now appear to have lost several GBs of files into the ether. I don’t suppose there’s a way to recover them? Tried Recuva (both normal and deep scan) for video files but came up empty.

Thanks. This is the first time I've added a new disk after setting up my NAS for the first time a year or so ago. My current disk is about 95% full and I'm not sure what to do next do I just include the new disk in my user shares and then proceed as I am or do I rebalance the data between the old and new disk (if that is even a thing?)

I added a new disk to my array recently. My other disks are xfs encrypted with a password however after adding this new disk I made it XFS encrypted but not once has it asked me to set a password does it automatically use the same one as the other disks? I’ve also noticed how when I stop the array it doesn’t ask for a password when I come to start it again.

I'm about to shuck a 12tb Elements drive however I plugged it in to the USB first as I was going to pre-clear it before cracking it open in the event there were problems but having read it needs to pre-clear the drive again once installed into the NAS I decided not to bother and as I was about to disconnect I noticed the temperature of the drive reported in Unraid seemed quite high at 40c compared to the 30c of my installed drives of the same type. Should I be concerned or is this down it being in the WD Elements enclosure?

Was running low on space on my NAS I set up last year so bought another WD Elements drive to shuck. After running Crystal Disk on it, it tells me the drive is 7200RPM whereas my previous Elements drives I shucked were 5400RPM does this matter? Should I order another in the hope I get a 5400RPM model?
