Update.
installed the powercool software on my VM within unraid.
got the UPS to appear and when I killed the power, it recognised it.
And then!
UnRAID recognised it too!!
but just as quickly as it saw it was off, it then went back online (and at the same time, I could not connect to the powercool on my VM any longer)
so, I’m definitely getting warmer!
bonus was seeing I’m only using 20% capacity, so it’ll last a few minutes on battery mode.

latest diagnostics after surviving the night and completing parity check.

Just now, JorgeB said:
It doesn't, you should have save them before rebooting.
Ok. If it errors again during this parity check I will do new diagnostics before doing anything.

Please post new diags after the errors.
attached but not sure what good it'll do as i've powered down and swapped out the sff8087 breakout lead to another one to try and rule out connection issue as i woke to parity and disk7 read errors and they are on the same lead.
telegram messaged the error @ 23:25 last night.
i've replaced the lead and re-begun a parity check.
-
Now parity drive is saying it has read errors and stopped its check.
so is this the HBA breakout sata leads? -

That will not necessarily solve any issues. What you should do is post your server diagnostics (Tools- --> Diagnostics in the GUI). Otherwise all anybody can do is guess what the problem may be.
thanks @Hoopsterdiagnostic attached.

Hi!
migrated to Unraid last year in August. 6.8.3
check out my first ever post. 😂
been bulletproof.
I’m all containers and VMs now.
upgraded to 6.9.1 on Sunday before the Easter egg hunt.
plain sailing and straight forward.
onto this week.
woke up Friday morning to a server with array stopped due to unsafe shutdown.
start array and parity check begins.
read errors on disk7.
power down server and move plugs around on drives.
power up and add back into array and parity check completes lunchtime today.
sat down for Plex this evening and it drops off.
go back out to server and it’s 8:13pm but screen says 8:09pm.
unsafe shutdown again (hold power button) and start up again.
everything’s back up and it’s doing another parity check.
to say I’m absolutely gutted I updated to 6.9.1 and regret it. But I was intrigued on “my servers” which has only made it odd difficult to log in.
I don’t know what to do and where to look at logs to find a solution.
I hope it lasts the night and it gets parity checked out again. Third time this month it’s done one now.
should I be upgrading to 6.9.2? -
No news yet I’m afraid. I’ve reached out to NUT to see what they say.
-
further research and it seems that i need to use driver "nutdrv_atcl_usb"
how do i add drivers to NUT?
-
Found this
https://github.com/cbedgar/nut/blob/1e9216399b890b0770a0e8b158109eaa5e61d332/data/driver.list.in
how do I add this to NUT?
https://networkupstools.org/docs/man/nutdrv_atcl_usb.html
sounds promising?
I edited the driver to custom “nutdrv_actl_usb” and NUT would not start.

The screenshot shows status online. Does it change when you turn off the outlet that supplies power to the UPS? Obviously all such testing needs to be done with the server powered on a separate circuit.
no, it stays ONLINE the whole time. -

Not sure what it is you are wanting, but as long as the UPS properly signals immediately when power is lost, that's all that's needed. Set unraid to shut down after 2 or 3 minutes of outage and you will be fine. A UPS like that isn't meant to keep services running through an outage, it's to allow a safe and proper shutdown.
That’s exactly what I’m wanting, but at the moment the two aren’t talking to each other, if it were as simple as the APC was. It’d be great.
im after advice on how to get the two to communicate so that it can safely shut down Unraid in the event of a power cut.

i've posted this in General Support but it might get a bit more NUT attention in here:
Quoteok, so against my better judgement [i just wanted UPS protection that i currently lost from the broken down one] i ordered the PowerCool 1000VA
plugged it in and used AutoDetect in NUT and it detected:
but it kept setting the driver to blazer [which reading in the NUT manual - LINK is what is it], but then further reading and googling found this:
Discussion on the Powercool and the nutdrv-qx driver
so put this [without quotes] into the ups.conf in the editor at the bottom of NUT settings and set USB driver to custom nutdrv_qx
and that is the limit of capabilities.
has anyone managed to get Powercool UPS to work with NUT?
a little surprised as its such a budget/cheap UPS in the UK that if it were to work easily, it'd be a no-brainer for UK users to get one!
any advice anyone can offer, i'd appreciate it!

Hi!
my APC UPS is giving up the ghost (internal fault) and just did a quick browse and spotted this.
would it be compatible with NUT?
-
swapped the sata lead to the spare one on the HBA breakout lead and its at 2% parity check and no errors.
potentially a duff breakout end, odd considering nothings moved for a while!
edit - on 14% all seems back to normal.
mystery....
-
Attached results.
All sounds normal.
going to power down and connect it via a different sata lead next.

The syslog clearly shows you are getting write errors. There is nothing obvious in the SMART report for the drive that I can see, but I would suggest clicking on the drive in the unRaid GUI and running an extended SMART test on it.
ok, running one now.

Hi!
woke up this morning to Parity drive in error state.
not had this one before, so bit of reading...
i've taken it all offline, removed/reseated the HBA card, checked connections.
drive appears fine, as soon as put it back as parity and press start array, it starts then fails.
the Parity drive is about a year old [not that that means anything]
i've attached diagnostic files from TOOLS/DIAGNOSTICS
not really sure what to do next. it all works. just no parity.
the only recent changes i've made [excluding upgrading to latest release] is set drives to spin down after 3 hours in an attempt to save a little energy at night.
other than that. Please can someone advise what to do next.
edit added disk info from diskspeed.
-
thanks. just followed the guide and made it 40GB in size.
cheers!

Hi!
running 682
i stopped all my containers and VMs. then stopped the array [i know it does it for me, i was just being organised as i was waiting for someone to come off a VM].
when i then restarted the array. it advised an unsafe shut down. so ran a parity check.
am i doing something wrong here?
