  1. Hey All, I am thinking of upgrading to the SM board(only for reliability and impi only) and swapping cases. The board has 6 sata on board and the 4220 has 5 8087 b/p connectors. So it looks like I will need one reverse cable and 4 8087 to 8087 cables for my AOC S/M controllers Which means I am basically loosing 2 sata connectors on the board. How did you all deal with this or this basically the only route to take? I have 15 drives now, so the 20 bay case will do me for a long time to come, 4 of the drives in the server now are empty. My other thought is to just use a I3 std CPU I am not planning on zen or the like only impi. Want to verify this is the correct ram for the board. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139077 How is the dual lan implemented and how does that help with network traffic is it double up or act as one in and one out. rgds, Dave
  2. Hey all, so a week or so ago, I found some issues with sectors on various drives. I ended up buying 4 new 3tb reds so far I have rebuilt disk 5, disk 6 and finally the parity drive (46 errors during parity sync no problems with this drive prior) thankfully I lost no data in this adventure, and those drives were bad after pre-clearing each of them the pending sectors stayed and off line errors, multi-zone errors and reallocated sectors were evident, but my disk 1 is still in the server and it shows 65535 pending sectors with no other errors and I have no rebuilt two data drives and the parity drive, did a parity sync and two parity checks and still no errors on disk 1 other then those pending sectors. I am not going to take any chances, I am still going to replace it and pre-clear to check and rma if required but is there really a problem? No other errors, nothing in the log, I did have some read errors when this all started but I replaced the PSU and nothing since. One other bad drive showed 65534 pending sectors prior to replacement and eventually had 120 reallocated sectors after the pre-clear was done. thanks, Dave
  3. Somebody smarter then me will likely add on here, but it looks like your flash drive is corrupt. Do you have a recent back-up of your flash drive somewhere. Did you hard shutdown the server recently. There are a few problems on the flash it cannot read your super.dat file or your samba secrets file, I would shutdown the server until someone else chimes in here. rgds, Dave
  4. I just replaced a WD 3.0tb green in my main server that stated 65534 pending sectors. I placed it in my test bed to run a pre-clear after the data was rebuilt and running on the new drive, I ran one cycle it came back with a result like this, but the initial pending sector number does not look like it changed at all. Current_Pending_Sector = 66 200 0 ok 65534 No SMART attributes are FAILING_NOW 3 sectors were pending re-allocation before the start of the preclear. 14 sectors were pending re-allocation after pre-read in cycle 1 of 1. 65534 sectors were pending re-allocation after zero of disk in cycle 1 of 1. 65534 sectors are pending re-allocation at the end of the preclear, a change of 65531 in the number of sectors pending re-allocation. This drive is going for RMA but the results above do not make any sense to me. rgds, Dave
  5. Thanks Guys, to the first question, Yes I was trying this on my test bed machine so that makes perfect since, I replaced another drive in my main machine last night and I checked and it works fine, having the parity drive and have being valid never came to mind. I assumed that the sync and check was different made sense that way to me but the threads I was reading were confusing to me they were talking sync and check in the same syntax which is what threw me for a loop. rgds, Dave
  6. Hey All, After being forced into some drive upgrades and repairs over the last few days I have been reading quite a bit and some things I have read and experienced with my own situation have me confused. 1. In reading about pending sectors or re-enabling a drive. It has been posted over and over to stop array, un-assign drive etc start array - well on my test bed with 5.04. If I stop the array, unassign the drive ( or choose no device I have no unassign choice) I cannot restart the array there is no check box or radio button and no way to start UNless I re-assign the same or a new drive which will then allow me to start the array. So it will not let me start the array without a drive assigned, unless I am doing something wrong. 2. In another posters situation - replacing a parity drive and near the end of the SYNC, webGUI was not coming up after waiting for the completion of the sync a reboot was performed to get the Gui back and the system was saying that no parity checks have been done he was told to start the check again. In my situation I installed my new parity drive and parity sync did complete and I was still able to access the Gui - all lights are green but upon finishing the sync the display still stated no parity checks were performed. I am confused, is a sync and a check the same. I cannot wait to dump all these green WD drives, In doing that parity sync I developed 1 pending sector on a data drive with no errors previously. This little problem is turning into a balloon effect. Just for comps I check all the drives in my 2nd data only server last night, 24-7 on no spin down 750GB or smaller drives and not one smart error on any of them, all the standard items for all those disks are 0. Thanks, Dave
  7. Well I am shocked, I shutdown the server updated the motherboards bios, rebuilt my Kingston flash drive and did a memcheck, rebuilt corrected parity and then replaced disk 5 with a new red 3.0tb and it rebuilt disk 5 overnight with no issues, It was the worst of the smart reports so I did it first had a back up of the flash put aside just in case, I am pre-clearing the old disk 5 now in a test machine. I had ZERO read errors from any disks or in the log while the data was being rebuilt on disk 5. I ran a file check on disk 5 before and after the rebuild and no corruption found. Now I have to replace disk one and the parity drive. I guess the old power supply was the root of my problem. One thing I am completely confused about is that I bought all these 3.0TB WD Greens at about the same time in fact I think 4 of them came from a boxing day sale at Christmas 2011 and they are all 3.0EZRX drives but when I run the serial #'s on WD warranty page only 1 of the 4 drives comes back with a warranty available and as a 3.0TB Green, the other drives serial numbers show as 3.0TB WDessential book drives and they say have no warranty. rgds, Dave
  8. Hey All, Thanks for the help and ideas so far, I grabbed some 3 TB RED drives and setup a temp server and those drives are on there 2nd pre-clear now, I went back and looked at the pre_clear reports for the three drives in question in the array and all of those 3 passed at the time with no issues, checked some sys log files over the last year and the read errors did start about mid year 2013 and looked to get to where they are at now although disk1 shows no errors other than 65535 pending sectors. So onto the next phase. The existing parity drive disk 1 and disk 5 seem to be in question. Since installing the new Seasonic X-850 PSU I have had no errors in the syslog to do with read errors nor errors on the main page. Next STEP - I have user shares setup so I am wondering what is the best practice for moving the data off of disk 1 and disk 5 I have lots of empty space on 4 other hard drives in the array and they are all included disks on each of the user shares TVShows, HDMovies and SDMovies. I know I can use copy or mv to do so BUT I have user shares on disk 1 - /mnt/disk1/TVshows, SDMovies & HDMovies and on Disk 5 - /mnt/disk5/HDMovies, SDMovies. Thanks, Dave
  9. I guess I am wondering why you are saying there is a hardware issue when I have had no problems at all in over a year or more, This all started out of the blue after copying a few new movies to the server. Thanks, Dave
  10. I guess my biggest question is how. There has been no signs of trouble with any of the parity checks in the last 6 months. The two oldest items in the server are the psu and the 3 super-micro 5-3 docks. the sas cards are both new last year as well as all cables, the drives that are showing problems are all on the motherboard sata controller and since replacing the sata cable for the parity drive I have not see anymore errors although I am a little reserved about performing another parity sync check. A little lost now, I guess the easiest is to replace the psu and do a memtest. I know with a hardware issue you are not suppose but to satisfy my concerns I did a filesystem check on both disk 1 and disk 5 and they come back fine with no corruption.
  11. HI, does anyone have any idea on how to proceed. I am concerned about replacing any of the drives at this point they all show pending sectors well 3 on disk 5, 65535 on parity and 65534 on disk1. I rebooted the server after yesterdays parity check and I have not seen any errors in the log since. thanks, Dave
  12. It is a silencer 750 EPS12V. One of the more highly rated psu's when they were new. 13. It is on a pc pwr and cooling (before ocz bought them) Silenx 750 and that is on a Smart UPS RM 2200. Thanks, Dave
  14. I just noticed over the last couple days, I had been redoing some movies and copying the file seemed to be failing, I was running 5.0-rc** since April of this year with no issues. All the drives were new and pre-cleared when the new server was built in fall 2012. I looked at the Unraid main page and noticed several errors noted on the parity drive and a few on disk 1 these are both on the mainboard controller sata port 0 and 1. I shutdown and replaced the sata cable for the parity drive and upgraded to 5.04 at the same time. turned the server back on and started a parity check and the attached syslog and two smart files for those two drives are what I have got as of this morning. I am hoping someone can shed some light on how to proceed with a fix. I am about 2 hours left on the parity check with 0 errors so far, BUT I am concerned with so many errors in the syslog if I can actually trust the parity check. I have 2 3TB in the server that have no data on them. Is it possible to remove these two drives and replace them with 2 TB spares that I have, and then replace the parity drive and the disk 1 drive with the 3TB drives I am removing. Thanks for your assistance in advance. here is a link to the syslog, it was too large to upload as an attachment - http://aimoutboards.com/downloads/syslog.txt EDIT - 10:02am now disk5 is reporting major errors as well. syslog is full of read errors smart report for disk5 is attached all three drives that seem to be failing are WD 3.0TB. EDIT 2 - 12:23pm parity check completed with no errors. parity writes = 11,820 errors = 11,725 disk1 writes = 13,693 errors = 13,683 disk5 writes = 9148 errors = 9138. It has not failed any drives yet and they are all still green. smartparityjan5922.txt smartdisk1jan5922.txt smartdisk5jan5.txt
  15. Hey All, added a bunch of new drives to the server and in the process I realized that I had included my (disk7) music only disk in the TVshows user share. Now that I have added space is it safe to just copy the tvshows directory on disk7 to one of the new drives and then exclude the music only disk from the tvshows share. system is 5.0rc11 Thanks, Dave
  16. This should probably be a separate thread in the v5.0 support board, not in the Release Announcement thread. I don't recognize the Stack trace elements, so can't say if it's anything important or harmless. It appears to involve the IPI system ( ? ), and notes "comm: dd Tainted: G". I haven't seen anyone else with this. It's very tempting to relate it to Preclearing 6 drives at the same time! I assume you were trying to find out how many you could do before something broke?!? Your flash drive is sdg, which is not part of the array, is setup in the syslog quite normally. You may have missed it. The one drive that has not finished is sdj, a WD30EZRX 3TB drive. There are no issues reported, so have no idea why it is taking longer. A SMART report may help. Thanks, The drives are taking a while to pre-clear none of them have finshed yet and it is now almost 24 hours. I do not think I will do that again . Why I mentioned the sdg drive is that on the printout from the array prior to adding the new drives sdg was a data drive in the array which is why I was confused. rgds, Dave
  17. updated to 11 from 10 last night prior to installing 6 new drives to pre-clear. this morning 5 of the 6 drives are in the post read state but one of the 3tb drives is stuck on step 2 at 50% reading records in and out very slowly I would assume that to be a bad drive at this point. My concern is that I have a stack trace in the syslog from a fresh boot into rc11 attached is the syslog. One other thing I notice in the syslog when ur mounts or checks all the drives there is no sdg drive noted that I could find, but in unraid main there is a sdg drive in the array with data on it. It is not one of the new drives. I have parity + 8 data + flash and 6 new drives pre-clearing that are not assigned. Thanks, Dave syslog-2013-03-10.txt
  18. sorry posted in the wrong section.
  19. Hey All, I finally moved my new server into the rack and of course got rid of the old one. I had to reset apcupsd on the 2nd server (data) in the process. so I have three server as so mediaserver - master (usb connected) tower2 - slave1 net connected mythmaster - slave2 - net connected I am running a smart ups 2200. How should I setup the variables for timeout - battery and shutdown params and in what sequence. I should have wrote it down but forgot in the whole process. thanks, Dave
  20. Tom, any news about this new case. price, availability on just the case. Thanks, Dave
  21. not sure if we are having the same issue. I was on 5.0rc2 and all was fine. I built a new win7 machine on the weekend with all the same setup as before. I am not using homegroups in fact I removed the computer from it. I have two other 4.7 version unraid servers and a bunch myth/xbmc boxes and also a few XP machines on the network. The only machine that win7 asked for a password for was the 5.0rc2 server. I entered root the first time by mistake I quickly flushed that and entered the admin user I had setup on the server it connected. I could asscess and delete files but no other machine on the network could nor could xbmc find any new movies and ember media manager on that win7 machine would not find any new movies to scrape when added. I tried net use * /delete, flushdns, registerdns etc etc... no luck with anything. I also tried the smb-extra.conf file idea but that did not work for me. I booted up the previosue win7 machine and all was fine NO credentials stored for the rc2 server no password required ember worked. So I flushed dns again. deleted all credentials on the new win7 machine, shutdown the server and rolled back to 5b14 for the time being, started the server then booted the new win7 machine and still it asked for a password to connect to the 5b14 loaded server I entered nobody without a password. win7 accepted that fine, I could open and access files on all machines. Ember was finding and scraping new movies again and xbmc was properly updating the library. I did not have to run new permissions. I am still confused as to why I had to enter a password on this new win7 computer for the only machine 5RC2 server. When I have never had to in the past. When I did try and use my admin account from the server it was changing the persmission on the files I copied over the server to mediaserver/myuser instead of mediaserver/nobody as all the rest of the files on the server are. I will give it a day or two and a few movies to make sure all is stable and will update to rc2 again or rc3 at that point. rgds, Dave
  22. So I connected my old win7 pc to compare notes and there are no windows credentials stored for the new 5.0rc2 server. There are generic credentials stored for mediaserver:80 with no username but a password that I never entered. Win7 NEVER asked. All folders on the server when viewed from the NEW windows7 pc have permissions as /mediaserver/nobody and I am adding user DVS who is added as an admin on the server. NONE of this is helping anything. I still cannot find new movies added to ember and or connect to the server half the time from win7 nor will xbmc find any new movies after scraping. even adding the user nobody without a password gets me into the server in win7 but will not let me access permissions OR manipulate any files. I am not using active directory or a homegroup. I guess I will try and roll back to beta 14 this is an issue with 5.0 rc series reading notes in the rc3 thread. Dave
  23. Well what uname and password am I suppose to use. I disabled the homegroup in win7 which I am pretty sure I did not do on the old win7 pc. I have 14 computers on my network 5 of them are myth or ubuntu to xbmc and the 5.0 rc2 unraid server is the only one that win7 asks for a password upon connecting. I had to add my movies to my library in xbmc manually and now ember media manager will not find any new movies I add to server after copying them over. Dave
  24. Hey All, I have not seen this before with my old win7 pc. I built a new computer loaded everything up. Went to my network browser clicked on the server with rc2 win7 asked for a user name and password never has before and it did not ask for one for my two old 4.7 servers anyhow I entered root and it seemed fine but I had some movies done from the previous install copied them over to the server from the new win7 pc and used ember to setup the nfo's for them. I tried to update my library this morning in xbmc and it could not find any of those movies, when I went to into file mode to look for the movies the folders were on the server when I click on them xbmc is asking for a user and pass and then I came back to my winxp machine pulled up the same new movie folders and as well I am told I do not have access rights to those files, but on the win7 machine I can access them fine. i did not have this problem with the previous machine and it was a win7 machine. I am not sure where to look, the new win7 machine is part of my home network, I am not sure if running the permissions on the server would fix the problem, as I said all the old files are fine it is just the 25 new files I copied over and added metadata from the new Win7 machine. I just deleted the credentials for mediaserver in win7 and if I click on the computer in network browser it is asking for a username and password again. thanks, Dave
  25. +1 I pointed this out in the motherboard threads when I was setting up and testing the new Asus FM1 board. I assumed it would be in the latest version of lm-sensors or the 3.0+ kernel. thx, Dave
