  1. Thanks Joe, I found that. I was not getting the settings icon to config the program. I uninstalled and went with the newest version as a plugin and it appears to work. I spent several hours rebooting and installing and finally just started over. I can get around linux, but I am not good at it yet... working on it. Thanks
  2. Thanks for the answer, I wondered if it was something along those lines.
  3. See post below for solution. So, I am trying to run this on 5.0rc10 and the process starts, finds the ups but I do not have any graphics that I can find that tell me it is running. Nothing in settings, nothing in unmenu. What is wrong? I have attached a zip of the syslog. syslog-2013-01-24-1.zip
  4. I found the problem, not sure why it was a problem... with the MB controller enabled and a pci based controller in a slot the onboard would not work. It has been working until I rebooted last night. So, maybe a problem with the fact that 2 were installed. I removed the pci card and the onboard works fine again.
  5. I am running 5.0rc10 plus version. BTW, love it. 5.5TB + cache. I rebooted my server to prep a new drive and after the reboot my 8111E would not work, did not appear to load a driver. So, I connected my old pci Realtek 8169 based card that I keep in the system and rebooted and it works fine. The 8111E works fine from the UFEI bios to check for firmware updates, so the port is not dead. The board is an Asrock FM2A85X Extreme 6. I can add a syslog tonight with the ethernet port enabled. I am somewhat of a linux newbie, can navigate and install packages but that is about the end of it. How do I install zip and have the system zip my syslogs and store them somewhere? I notice a message during boot that recommends doing just that. How does one find out if a disk is running sata 2 or sata 3? I see some entries in the syslog, but am not sure what they are telling me. I have a WD 1002FAEX that was in the list of drives that had a negotiation bug in the firmware and I ran the firmware fix from WD on my windows box, but I want to be sure that it is working properly in UnRaid. Thanks Matt
  6. I just upgraded from rc8 to rc10 and I have noticed that the Stats/Unraid Stats screen scrolls the time across the bottom of the screen in real time but no longer draws any graphs. The historical graphs are there. This did work in rc8. Matt
  7. I wanted to set it to ignore it, but in the screen shot there is not a link in the ID field. So, there is nothing to click and set. I am more concerned about the lack of the clickable field than I am about the false error. I am running rc8.
  8. I have a small SSD that I am using for cache, 30gb. I get the HPA warning on that drive, but have no clickable link in the ID field to fix it with. I guess that I should input it into the list and reboot, but I really did not want to reboot to fix it. Any ideas why the ID field is not showing up for the device? It is working correctly.
  9. Personally, I would like to see it work and it does! Tom, if you are comfortable enough to call it a final then do so! I would like to see a 64 bit version at some point, but I am on my first server and I am thrilled with the way it works. It beats the hell out of my old D-link DNS-343.
  10. I am looking for an M1015 or other controller for unraid. I am also looking for a large case, 5.25's top to bottom. Let me know what you have and what you want for it. Thanks Matt
  11. Thank You, that is what I wanted to avoid. I had selected and MSI board, after a phone call to them, I found out that the particular board would not support a non-graphics card in the X16 slot and it was a mini-ITX board with only one PCI-e x1 and one PCI slot in addition. I was planning to use an LSI controller from the start with it. This Asrock board has 7 internal sata ports, allowing me to put off the controller for a while.
  12. Just upgraded to rc8 from rc5. My old PCI 8169 card will not work now, but my integrated 8111E works fine. About 20 meg faster also. I am pleased that the integrated port is working, but if it dies that means my old card will not work. BTW, the board is an Asrock FM2A85X Extreme 6. Asrock confirmed before I started the build with this board that the PCI-e slots will support X8 drive controllers as well.
  13. I would sure like to see one as well.
  14. I also have reduced the power consumption to 83 watts with all disks spinning and 63 watts with disks spun down, but system up. I am please with these numbers, my old system was at 165 spun up and 135 spun down. so half the power consumption makes me feel better about adding another computer to the house.
  15. This system is my first UnRaid build, still need to register and get either plus or pro. Leaning toward Pro to help fund the project, it is awesome! Anyway, old ugly case... has been running an old Asus Limestone board that I hated, but it had 4 sata ports. Decided to make a real machine of her and I think I did ok. Looking for an Intel PCI-e ethernet and sometime soon a raid controller to get the most out of my 3 in 2 bays, but not really needed. Would also like to find a reasonable industrial style case for top to bottom drive bays, with hot swap mounts installed after I get the case. Asrock confirmed that the PCI-e slots will all support disk controllers! Yeah!
  16. Ok, so still somewhat of a newb here... I have SNAP up and working, but all of the systems I would want to share a snaped drive with are Windows. So, I need to do chmod and possibly chown at drive insertion so that my share can be accessed. I have added this to the hotplug in for the device in question and it does not seem to do it... chmod 666 /mnt/disk/2.5-320/* If you can help, please do. I get the standard "Windows cannot access /2.5-320" that I normally see if I do not set users/nobody and 666 on files. Thanks Matt
  17. I am building an Unraid Plus box and am interested in going no bigger than 6 drives. Case and power supply already handled. I am looking at this board, 6 sata and ok layout. Does anyone know if this board works well with Unraid and am I cutting myself to short on processor? I use it to serve movies to two XBMC clients and as mass storage for the house. ASRock FM2A75M-DGS: basically $64 Dual-Core A4-5300 3.4GHz FM2: $50 8 gig ram Yes, I am on a budget. Thanks Matt
  18. First off, I am running Unraid 5.0-rc5 and it is working great. I have been testing all of the various server options and have settled on Unraid, it fits what I need. I am running on old hardware that I had sitting in the closet. My board is an Asus Limestone with a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz processor and 4 gigs of ram. I have 2 1.5 TB data drives and 1 2 TB parity drive and will be adding 1 more data drive soon. Currently fully powered up and running I am using 125-135 watts of power and with the drives spun down I am still around 100 watts. I am using a Kill-a-watt to make the readings. I am getting around 50MBs of data transfer to and from the system and am happy with that. I do not want to step down to an Atom board or something that will drop my throughput. I am considering one of the many FM2 boards for a permanent build going forward, but I would also like to save a little power. I do not really need it to go totally to sleep, but would like it to go into a fairly low power state since it is acting as a media server and backup host and is not extremely busy most of the time. I will look for a board that I can undervolt, underclock and turn off cores at boot. I am a fan of getting the best bang for the buck when I buy a cpu and motherboard, so I have a chance of extending the useful life of the product. I guess that I am looking for suggestions of hardware and indications of what power consumption levels I should realistically be able to get down to. Thanks Matt
  19. I am getting ready to register and go to the mid level version. I understand that the key is tied to the serial number of the thumbdrive. What happens if the thumbdrive fails? Do I have to re-register? Thanks Matt
  20. Will support for this chipset be added back to Unraid? It works great in RC5 but broke when I installed RC8, so back to 5 for now. I am not a Linux guru, so if it is possible to add the driver back in, I could use some help. I did see in the change log that the 8168 driver was installed to address some issues. Thanks Matt
  21. Thanks for the response, I really want this to work... I really like it, have run freenas and while it is good it does not have the JBOD feel and expansion ease. I have found so much conflicting data that I am just trying to muddle through it all. It is performing ok, crap test hardware. I am running on a P4 with 4 gig ram and 2 IDE data drives with a SATA parity drive and PCI bus gig network. I get throughput from about 15MBs to 30MBs to and from the array. I envision a final system to have either a Hudson board or an I3 with about 4 gig ram and several 1-2 TB SATA drives. Hoping to do a mini-ITX or micro-ATX build, trying to decide how to attach enough drives to it, boards support 5 or 6 SATA connections and I could add an 8 port SAS card to support up to 8 more SATA drives... I think. Still trying to figure out SAS and how it works. It appears to me that you get a card and a cable that takes the SAS connector and breaks it out to 4 SATA drives. Would hate to be wrong, expensive oops! Thanks again, Matt
  22. I am investigating a NAS software solution for my home network, mainly to offload my download directory and media storage. Looking to replace or supplement my D-link DNS-343. Right now I am testing with the free server, if it goes well and I can wrap my head around a couple of things I will end up with the mid-level version. I really like the JBOD'ish feel of this server. I have 2 data drives right now and want to create MyMedia across them. Do I need to build the file structure across both drives manually or do I build the first and it duplicates on the second when needed? Admitted Noob to this product. It did replicated the directory for me, it appears when I moved more data to it than one drive could hold. I have a share currently for MyMedia and under that I have Movies, TV, Music, Pictures, Slasher and Adult. I get that the first level is always a share, but I have young kids that I do not want to see the second level Adult and Slasher directories. Is there a way do make this happen? It appears that I can't make a share based on a directory below first level that is less inclusive of users and it appears that I can't make a first level share that does not give all users read level access. Is there something that I am missing that allows me to tighten down the share permissions? BTW, all SMB stuff. Follow-up: I moved my adult directory to the root of one drive and made it a hidden share. It still shows up in the disk shares, is that normal? I have spent several hours reading about sharing and such on unRaid and I just do not get it. I like the idea of split levels, but again do I need to build the exact same structure on each drive? Thanks Matt
