  1. Joe, did I answer your question or do you need more info? Seems to be a valid smtp address.
  2. FYI, there's a recommended FW upgrade to CC35 for these drives. I have 6 of these in my array and they're working fine for over a year now. I did have one issue out of the box with a brand new drive but RMA'd it and the replacement has been working fine. EDIT: Just got a call from CompUSA wanting to know if the second order was an accidental duplicate order. I said no and he said both would ship today.
  3. Thanks Bags...great deal. Still working today and limit 1 per order. I ordered 2 (2 separate orders) so I'll report back if one gets bounced.
  4. I used to have this configuration in my mail program: smtp.att.yahoo.com:465 But noticed that I was getting an error. I then read online that AT&T's smtp port for SSL changed from 465 to 587. I'm still getting an error though: Jan 16 16:46:00 Tower sSMTP[2408]: Unable to locate smtp.att.yahoo.com Jan 16 16:46:00 Tower sSMTP[2408]: Cannot open smtp.att.yahoo.com:587 Does anybody else use U-Verse for their mail notifications?
  5. The WDTV Live Plus shows my user (e.g. //Tower/Media) and disk shares (e.g. //Tower/disk1/Media, //Tower/disk2/Media etc.) all together. How do I make the individual disk shares invisible to the WDTV but not to my Windows machine where I do most of the file transfers manually?
  6. They seem to be some sort of index files. I just noticed them the other day when I was adding content to the server and I deleted them right away. I also noticed a line in my syslog about the directories not being empty when I deleted them but I think that may be the case when you delete a whole directory instead of the individual files. I'll post more detail about the files next time they show up.
  7. What's the easiest/best way to restrict a WDTV Live Plus from writing files to my disk shares when it accesses them? Do I have to create a new user with read only permissions and login using those credentials?
  8. Here's a screenshot of a 30GB transfer of 23 files about 3/4 of the way through between Win7 machine and UnRAID server. Total transfer time was 15-20 min. Whatever happened in the middle of this transfer caused Windows to adjust remaining time significantly even though the transfer rate remained consistent at 34 MB/sec. I know it's not a good measure of transfer time but I thought it was interesting to note the network drop coincided with this adjustment.
  9. I've seen different results depending on the disk in the array but usually anywhere from 25-40 MB/sec. I don't think speed is the issue. When it's transferring files the rate seems ok but there's definitely some kind of activity (either network or hard drive) going on during the transfer contributing to the problem. I've also disabled the NIC power management scheme and set the hard drive never to turn off on the Win 7 machine.
  10. When you say "fails" do you mean the copy doesn't successfully complete or do you mean when it hangs at the beginning of a copy? I was holding off on the 4.7 upgrade as I'm planning to add a few new drives to the array and I wanted to preclear and add them before the upgrade. I suppose I could try the upgrade prior to adding the disks and then revert back to 4.6 final to do it? I just completed a larger transfer of 187GB from the server (7 seasons of the show House all in HD) to a powered USB drive that took about an hour and 15 minutes. The average rate appeared to be approx. 26 MB/sec but I still had the seesaw effect shown above. About half way through the transfer my network utilization peaked around 70-80% but then settled back into the 50% range. The consistency of the network utilization (like a step wave) leads me to believe that something is deliberately causing it like a read/write buffer. For example, could it be the peaks represent reading of data across the network and the lows represent writing to the disk? The consistent size might indicate a full buffer? I'm purely speculating at this point...
  11. The transfer of large files (>1GB) between the internal SATA drive on the Win 7 machine and the UnRAID server is similar to the pic above but not as pronounced or as frequent as with a USB drive (I tried another SATA drive with a powered USB enclosure and had similar results to what is shown above). There's definitely something going on with the network. I had the same issues in Vista and I was hoping my upgrade to Win 7 might yield better results. I've seen a lot of users report delays upon initial copy (e.g. "calculating remaining time") when copying files from Win 7 to their arrays and I've experienced the same. In my case, the issue seems to be some sort of network timeout/dropout. Sometimes, I have to abort a copy and initiate it immediately after without issue. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=8713.0;topicseen NIC info: I have a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller on the Win 7 machine. I'm currently using Realtek driver 7.032.1111.2010 and have static IP's on both machines. FWIW, I've tried Teracopy and MC and had similar results.
  12. Ok, here's the info you requested http://root@Tower:~# ifconfig eth0 eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:22:15:ec:f3:61 inet addr:192.168.1.71 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:26410577 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:9647095 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:472592417 (450.6 MiB) TX bytes:588793202 (561.5 MiB) Interrupt:18 http://root@Tower:~# ethtool eth0 Settings for eth0: Supported ports: [ TP ] Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Half 1000baseT/Full Supports auto-negotiation: Yes Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Half 1000baseT/Full Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Speed: 1000Mb/s Duplex: Full Port: Twisted Pair PHYAD: 0 Transceiver: internal Auto-negotiation: on Supports Wake-on: pg Wake-on: d Current message level: 0x000000ff (255) Link detected: yes[/fcode] I also found this link: http://www.windowsreference.com/windows-vista/slow-network-copy-and-connection-drops-in-windows-7/ SHould I try this?
  13. Well, the only way I could use the straight cable (already bought one from Superbiiz on E-bay, seller memwizard for $14.49 shipped) is if I remove the fan from the drive cage. I could probably do this but would prefer to leave it intact.
  14. Offer more than $17 USD ;-) I'm locked out for 30 days now!
  15. Looks like the 8 pin connector is called a "Sideband Signal" and it still has 4 SATA connectors. A quick google of "sideband signal SAS" talks about using it in a managed backplane to monitor the controller and disks. If you can find a forward breakout cable with right angle SATA connectors for less than this I would be interested to know where. Previously, I could only find one for $40 USD.
  16. Nice find bcbgboy13! Any idea what the 8 pin connector is for though? That's the first time I've seen it pictured in a SAS breakout cable.
  17. Sorry, Joe! It took me a while to figure out how to get the picture to show up correctly in the post and now I realize that I didn't write nearly enough! Unraid version is 4.6 Final Network is Gigabit with a D-Link DGS 2208 switch between server and USB device on Windows 7 x64 machine. No other traffic on network and no media playing locally on Windows x64 machine USB drive is a 500GB WD passport I will update post with ethtool eth0 and ifconfig eth0 output later when I'm home.
  18. Per my pm, I meant drive cage and not backplane. I'm using a Lian-Li PC80 with the EX-H34-B. The problem is the proximity of the fan to the SATA port. http://www.sundialmicro.com/Lian-Li-Expension-HDD-Kit-exh34b_1975_1466.html
  19. What could cause my network connection to keep dropping out this consistently during a file copy??
  20. I hear you but I swear when I searched before it wasn't like that...I've used Superbiiz website for a while. Could've just been acting up at the time when I searched. For example, searching SASLP the other day gave me the AOC-SASLP-MV8, but searching it today gave me: http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AOC-USLP8R&title=Supermicro-AOC-USASLP-S8IR-8-Port-SAS-3Gb-s-PCI-E-Internal-RAID-Adapter Another question for you. I've got SATA backplanes and the standard SFF 8087 forward breakout cables have straight SATA connectors. I think I need the 90 degree ones...have you seen these anywhere for less than $40 USD? http://www.xpcgear.com/multi-lane-sff-8087-mini-sas-to-4x-sata-right-angle-internal-data-hard-drive-forward-break-out-cable.html
  21. Just so you know, I did search on Supermicro and it didn't show up...thanks!
  22. I just checked SuperBiiz and this card doesn't appear to be listed anymore...wtf?! Provantage is also a good source to get the card and cables combined. Newegg shipping costs on the cables is ridiculous...
