  1. Roku is very limited in what it supports: Video Support MP4 (H.264) MOV (H.264) MKV (H.264) ASF/WMV (WMV9/VC-1) Audio Support MP3 AAC Dolby Digital (MP4, MOV and MKV pass through only) DTS (MKV pass through only) No support for MPEG-2 and a other video formats, No TrueHD, DTS-MA & other audio formats. For the Roku 3 basically native is MP4 & AAC.
  2. The Corsair HX750 PS arrived from Newegg, waited a few weeks before installing the new one AND, AND, wait, wait, it didn't cure the problem but it did improve the way to get it up and running. Now after I power it up the Disc light on the front of the Tower Case comes on briefly but the USB drive when being accessed flashes normally but in this case it does not. Wait a minute or two, hold down the power button and the server powers down. Press the power button again and this time it starts the server and array fully. No need to typing poweroff from the commmand line and powering it up again. Now the USB key flashes and all is well again in the land of UnRaid. My conclusion is that possibly the power supply as well as the mother board are both defective. Since I can get the server up and running I am open for a new mother board suggestion, at least 5 SATA ports and two PCI-E slots for SATA controllers plus PCI-E x1 for NIC card possibly. Intel i-5 processor for doing transcoding, form factor normal ATX, no mini or micro. Thanks for any help. O2G
  3. Just ordered a replacement PS from Newegg Corsair HX750 and to my surprise free shipping $40 discount and a $20 mail in rebate total cost $90 for a replacement. If that doesn't work then it is off to a new MB with an i-3 or i-5 processor to do some transcoding for the Roku. Thanks for any help, and please share any additional observations. O2G
  4. Thanks for all the help. I have removed the 2 cards PCI-e NIC & the Adaptec controller as well as 4 drives but it did not power up. I am almost tempted on BF to get the same Corsair PS in that way all I have to do is replace the unit and keep the cabling in place. If that doesn't work I may go for a new more powerful MB to allow for on the fly encoding to different formats. I looked at the CPU fan and it is correctly installed, I did a BIOS change regarding the cooling of the CPU but I don't believe that this will do the trick, somehow it may point to the PS.
  5. Thanks for giving me some ideas. I checked the manual that I have and this is what it says: I will check the BIOS set up but it is hard to explain while on second power up it goes into the POST and starts normally.
  6. When powering up my server with 8 plus parity drives it never gets to the POST message of the mother board, the HD activity LED briefly flickers and then stops and there is no video signal. I let the tower run for about a minute or two. Then I keep the power on button pressed in and server shuts down. Press the power button again, this time it goes into the mother board on screen splash and we have video signal, however my Adaptec 1430 sa did not go through its power up sequence. At the command prompt I just type poweroff and since the array is not online because it misses 4 drives the server just shuts down. Press the power button again and this time it starts up normal with all drives and the array being online. This is how I start my server now every time. I replaced the flash drive with a backup but that did not solve the problem. Here is my basic hardware configuration as posted here and in operation with no flaws for about 3 years: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5102.msg47279 The first time I noticed it, was when my server had shut down unexpected, but I didn't give it much thought. After that I noticed when it had difficulties starting that the CPU fan (4 wire stock) tried to start turning and whenever that was the case the tower never started. Once the CPU fan started to run after about a minute or two the tower booted up. I replaced the CPU fan with a decent one but it only had 3 wires, but I don't believe this has anything to do with it. Possibly the unexpected server shutdown could have been a thermal shutdown, but I am not sure about this just conjecture as I have no explanation why the server was off line. The power supply is a Corsair TX750 and I am wondering if that is the culprit, if not is a mother board replacement needed or are there some settings that have changed and needed to be reset. I am at a total loss and before going on a wild goose chase I thought maybe someone could give me a structured approach on how to narrow down the problem why I have to go through this weird power up sequence to get the server online. Thanks O2G
  7. All my shares are public with full read & write privileges but if you have users in the Windows Vault you will have to take care of them so Tom's statement is only addressing the UnRaid side at least that is how it worked for me. I have no users in the Unraid configuration just root.
  8. Just finished the parity check, copied a 10GB file to the array after that topping the array and powering down the server went without a hitch. Love these intermittent problems caused by solar flares
  9. Well that is what I meant by final version 5.0. I am running the stable i386 release of version 5, so your suggestion would not help.
  10. I just upgraded from version 4.7 to the final 5.0 version and experienced the same problem. This was never the case before. This time the console was just sitting there at the blinking cursor and waiting for return results, keyboard did not do anything. Didn't try a Putty session. Finally I waited for a few minutes but nothing happened, wanted to go hit the sack, so in desparation I just held down the power button and the server powered down, not advised to do and not an elegant method. Powered it back on and after reboot typed from the console "poweroff" server powered off. Turned it back on this morning and it went into a parity check and corrected one Sync Error, it is still checking parity for another 2 hours. The advise here about unmounting the data discs is excellent but if it is not possible to give keyboard commands from the console because it is waiting for the return code/data will it accept keyboard commands from a Putty session? Also how do I change the settings so that it keeps the logs for at least a week and puts it like it did before in a separate directory? I can look at the syslog from UnMenu or UnRaid's GUI but before I had a directory on the flash drive that was called logs which kept logs for about a week, but this is no longer the case. Thanks O2G
  11. I don't think this is possible. Couldn't find anything for the WD Live Streaming Media Player & for the Dune it is Linux Kernel thingy. I set it now so that when the Dune is powered off it is really OFF and not in standby mode. This seems to work for the Dune. The WD Live I am not worried about if it doesn't play correct it gets powered down & unplugged until needed.
  12. Well, just finished the updating of my 4.7 server to 5.0. Followed the instructions implicitly and it all worked fine. Had on small problem. In chasing down the connectivity problems between MS Win7 and UnRaid I had entered into the Vault were Windows Credentials are being stored for automatic logon the user "root" with password, while the new new credentials were "root" with no password. Couldn't imagine why I couldn't open \\Tower on this one machine but could open the IP address to the shares on the Tower server. Opened up the Vault Credentials and deleted the entry for Tower from it. Now everything is working as it supposed to. Just had two lines with Errors but after comparing them to the 4.7 log I think they can be ignored. Again Thanks for all the toys and fish
  13. All my switches, router, QNAP NAS & UnRaid servers plus a monitor with KVM switch are on a UPS. When I have a power failure I have about an hour of time before the UPS signals the QNAP NAS to power down.
  14. Just updated my HP Micro Server N40L containing 6 discs from v5.0-RC3 to v5.0 i386. I was hesitant with the formatting of the USB key and since I had problems in the past with my existing USB keys I decided to have a backup USB key for each of my two servers in case the key gets again corrupted or fails. Since I run unmenu & cache dirs, I updated those programs to the latest versions including the plugin for cache dirs, ran a parity check and made sure that the two keys per server where identical. Started the HP N40L to verify everything is still running without a problem before updating. Did this for both of the USB keys. Took one of the flash drives and copied from the v5.0 i386 downloaded release, all the files except the config directory, to the root directory of the flash drive overwriting all duplicates. Finally ran the make_bootable.bat file, plugged the flash drive into the HP N40L and powered the server up and presto a stable v5.0 is now installed on the HP N40L. Tom, all in all, version 5.0 is a job well done. Next job updating my version 4.7 server. Judging from this experience, as they say in the UK, it should be a doddle.
  15. Thanks for the tip on LANscan used it and I believe solved any possible problems. After running I found that the Dune Smart B1 was the master browser because it was in software standby. Changed the power settings so that it will power it off instead of standby mode. This evidently is a known problem and it looks like that this is in the Dune Linux kernel. Ran LANscan again and then the WD Live Streaming Media Player became the master browser. Unplugged the power and ran LANscan again this time the QNAP NAS is the master browser and this box is never turned off it runs 24/7. Is this is a correct assumption that if I turn the Dune Smart B1 & the WD Live Streaming Media Player back on that they will not highjack the master browser function? Thanks for your help.
  16. I read most of the messages here regarding Local Master settings but can't come to a firm conclusion probably because I can't make heads or tails of this setting. My Network is a Workgroup environment. I have a 8 port Gigabit switch (3Com Managed Gigabit Switch 3CDSG8) with one port going to a Sonos bridge, 2nd port to a Win 7 PC, 3rd port to a Silicondust HD Homerun tuner and a 4th port connects to a (TrendNet TEG-S80G) 8 port Gigabit switch. This 8 port Gigabit switch (TrendNet TEG-S80G) has 2 ports going to two UnRaid servers, 1 port to a QNAP NAS (Runs 24/7), 1 Port to a Win 7 PC, 1 port to a FIOS router (DHCP & Gateway), 1 port for a WD Live Streaming Media Player and the last port goes to a DGS 2208 Desktop Gigabit switch 60 feet away in the Home Theater room. The DGS 2208 switch has connected a Win 7 HTPC, Roku 3, Dune Smart B1 & a Denon AVR receiver. The QNAP NAS has been configured as Local Master = Yes, The Dune Smart B1 has a SMB Server which is set to ENABLED, however the Dune Smart is not always on just when needed. Only the QNAP NAS runs 24/7 connected to a UPS. Here is my question should the two UnRaid servers also have the Local Master set to YES? I read in the Dune forum that too many Local Masters could cause confusion as to what SMB implementation is being run. Sorry if this is all too elementary but I like to make sure that these Local Master settings are correct. Thanks for any help O2G
  17. Got one of those covers for where the optical drive opening is. It looks excellent but the bracket also is a very tight fit, tighter then the two drives with Nexus Double Twin adapter, but it works.
  18. Just increase the drive size put in two 3TB drives one for parity and 1 for new data & let them synch up. If you are already on 3TB drives then you need to build a new box. I am not 100% sure if the 4TB drives work in the N36L but Neil0 would know.
  19. I have 6 Hitachi 3TB Deskstar Coolspin drives in my box. They are running like a charm. All TV, Sports & Documentaries on the server. Highly recommended drive, a bit pricey perhaps but has high star ratings on all the sites that sell the drives.
  20. I took the 5.25" drive bay bezel from my Antec 1200 which has honeycomb holes and stuck some black filter material behind it and then replaced the blank panel. Started to preclear drive 5 & 6 and read temps of 33 & 32 from the drives while the others ran at 31 & 32. So I am done with this server having 6 Hitachi 3TB Coolspin drives and personally I think this is one of the best solutions for a media server.
  21. Thanks for your quick reply. I thought as much that you sort of have to twist the inner metal part to open the slot for the tray of an ODD and then remove the black plastic part. I don't do a once a month parity check but maybe every 2 to 3 months so I think temps should not be an issue. I'll look for a mesh cover with some filter material and mod the server in that fashion. On the other hand my box only runs when I want to relax in the Home Theater and watch something.
  22. Just installed two drives using the Nexus Doubletwin adapter in the space for the optical drive and wish to know what temperature have you experienced with no grill installed? The drives are 3TB Hitachi 5K3000 Deskstar. I am considering if I have to knock out the space for the optical drive and install a mesh cover. By the way how does one remove the black blank plate from the cover for the optical drive? Thanks O2G
  23. After all the 1 star ratings on Amazon do you really want to go for that drive?
  24. The 5 series is more of a rewrite to better support the future, much of which is underlying and not necessarily visible yet. For more of the detail, see the Release Notes wiki page. Thanks I read through the release notes from 4.7 through the various betas but because the betas changed so drastically and were all over the place because of difficulties with the controllers and NIC drivers, I just wanted another opinion. I guess I wait with the update until the version 5 release.
