  1. So I actually, before moving to unraid, had Windows Server 2019 on it and it ran just fine. I also used Truenas Core and Scale just fine (though those didn't have VM's but were running in a VM via proxmox if that means much
  2. So I run (well working on) a YouTube channel. I’d like to show off distros of Linux and windows builds. Nothing ground breaking. inhave a Dell poweredge r630 with 256 gigs of ram. 8 sas disk drives that are 600 gig. I have a jbod mediasonic (non raid) plugged in to the usb 3.0 port. at the end of the day it’s about 24 tb in total without using parity (my important stuff is actually backed up to a bucket in aws). it seems the performance of the vms I set up regardless of the amount of ram is a bit slow and laggy. I know it won’t be amazing but I figured it should be close to native no? Maybe I’m setting the wrong CPU’s cores to the vm? I have 2 xenon processors. I also don’t have an ssd (I don’t have a place to put it in my poweredge). anyway, anyone have a similar setup suggestions? How can this be achieved? thank you
  3. As the title states. I know there are some dockers but I’ve never been successful with unraid. I generally run into permissions issues or other issues and end up resorting to manual. Maybe someone much smarter than I can make an official template? Or an actual guide? Please 🙏
  4. Gotchhhhhaaaaaa! is there a guide I can follow step by step for either file system on proper configuration of unraid? I found one but it was old and referenced screenshots that weren’t there (not sure if I’m blocking the host or if where they are stored removed them or whatever). Like beginning to end from configuration of plugins to setting up proper shares, etc. I want to be super sure I’m doing everything correctly. I’m not real bright (returning to the master’s degree statement— I was actually in a bad car wreck, coma for several weeks, brain damage etc — I’m not real good at remembering things and also between the lines anymore. Step by steps and whys are always best for me otherwise something common sense wise I likely will miss it setup wrong and yeah. I went from a senior full stack software engineer to a tier 1 help desk. not trying to invite you to pity city, but just to give you background on me. It’s not a matter of me reading the docs, it’s more about I don’t know which docs to read and cross reference and I don’t understand implicitly why or how to know if that makes sense. edit: typo
  5. I’m garbage at understanding how this all worked (odly I has a masters degree in computer science and math, but that’s just paper lol I guess that’s a discussion for another day). so your btrfs array will spot errors but not self heal? Right? What’s the point at that point? there is an integrity plugin, doesn’t it do the same?
  6. So I’m resetting my unraid now that I have a grasp of it. I already have a backup of the data I absolutely need now, originally I used xfs for my pool array thing (the series of disks that are protected by parity). from what I gather, btrfs doesn’t require parity through some black magic (maybe I misunderstand). Anyway, what is the best practice for setting up unraid with btrfs (or xfs) to guard against bitrot and data loss? Is there a guide on how to actually use it and the proper plugins for best results? I’d hate to think of going good, a drive fail and all my data is actually corrupt indicating bitrot and my parity writing errors or whatever thank you edit: even if btrfs isn’t a good choice or whatever (I’m trying to maximize disk space and security) if the guide for xfs exists I’d appreciate that too! I need everything from the right plugins to install and how to configure them properly etc too. Thank you
  7. So I am new to unRaid so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question and I am struggling to find the answer to this query. How do you bind Qbit to Mullvad VPN in unRaid? So if the VPN drops Qbit stops like it does in Windows?
  8. im dumb. im sorry. thank you
  9. did you get this? Does this come with everything already? Motherboard, etc? So you just plug the usb into an existing setup and plug the drives in? How does this work exactly? Thank you.
  10. So, I have a 1.5 year old child and another in the cooker . I work 80-100 hours a week. Needless to say, my budget is pretty strapped. Anyway, I have a small home and don't want to get a rack mount. I currently have a poweredge r630 that sits on a bench in the dining room that I would like to turn into a giant desktop and hide away in a corner. That is all here nor there; however, hopefully that explains what I am wanting to do. It's tax season, the wife and I have 400-500 dollars that i can spend (though we would like it to be as small as possible lol). I'd like to do a new build. I'd like to reuse my drives (8) from my r630 (2.5 inch sas drives), but also slowly move over to 3.5 inch sata drives and maybe sas if hardware permits. I also have 3 3.5 inch sata drives that I run through a DAS at the moment. I'd like to keep those, too. This would allow me to upgrade my drive sizes as I can. What is a good build for this? I don't care about case size as long as it is a tower (even if I have to stack drives inside LOL). The tower will be up in a corner un-touched. Is this possible at all? How close to this can I get? I'm also still on my trial of unRaid, would I be able to move my stuff across without losing the data / license? How would I do this? I'm currently mapping everything out. so I can attack it with a plan and knowledge. Thank you!
  11. i can. But I can’t use a VPN on my work machine.
  12. I think it is working now. So, removing tailscale (which sucks to have to remove since I used it as a subnet router to access other devices outside of unraid). Then using as 'run' \\vault\media worked. Thank you for your time fellas. I appreciate the support!
  13. I'm not sure what that is at all. I have Tailscale installed and Cloudflare Tunnels installed. I've since disable disk shares, and still no cigar. Same with public shares.
  14. I can ping it, but I cannot get to it. It's wild to me that I had NO ISSUE at all with any other nas system setting up SMB shares (Truenas, Open Media Vault, Windows Server, Plain Debian, Arch even). Somehow, Unraid seems to be the problem child lol.
  15. I just did it again and it didn't help. I tried it as admin too. Another thing I just tried was to set all the shares to private. I also created a test share set to private. Assigned the user wwe9112 to it, the share still fails to be accessed. I even tried to change the password to something more complex. Moreover, I updated the Windows credentials to reflect the change. It is still failing, well, both shares are still failing.
  16. It is. the machine I am using to try and access the share is 10.0.0.68 and the unraid server is 10.0.0.15
  17. I did, I get the same loop i spoke about earlier. After a few tries, it throws an error stating the device isn't working, other times it throws an error stating that the network login attempt failed.
  18. I cannot. I get the attached error and when I run the troubleshooter, i get the other error.
  19. Isn't that what the account in the screenshot is though? the "wwe9112" account? here is another screenshot I just grabbed after getting frustrated and typing the login 4 or so times
  20. I tried root in addition to my user. They both failed. That's exactly how I reset the permissions. That didn't work either unfortunately. When I tried it as a public share, with all settings set to the least restrictive as possible, I still was unsuccessful in accessing the share.
  21. I'm still on my trial I think I have like 24 days left or something. Literally the entire time I've had unRaid, I've ben fighting trying to get SMB to work. See screenshots: In addition to the attachment settings I've tried the following: 1. making the share public 2. accessing it via root 3. resetting the directory permissions 4. tried setting client min protocol = SMB2 5. edited LanmanWorkstation to allow insecure workstations and authentication methods. 6. net * /delete (which didn't matter obviously lol) 7. Turning on SMBv1 8. cleared credential manager 9. When i do get an error instead of just a loop of logins, it says the login attempt failed. I think i've gone through all threads that I can find about this, made every change I seen suggested, It's still not working for me. Ideas? Thank you. vault-diagnostics-20230127-2204.zip
