  1. once the 3 preclear scans or whatever its called are done ill do a parity check and see the temps vs my other drives and report back. 3 runs of a 4tb drive take a long while
  2. hmmmmm the other drives probably were idle or recently accessed but that seems like too much of a difference...perhaps ill just RMA to be on the safe side and see what the replacement drive reads..
  3. i just got a new hdd and im running the 3 intial preclears on it and its running at 50c and my other drives are at 32c. is this normal or should i return the drive. the drive i got is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145912 HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN (0S03664) 4TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" High-Performance Hard Drive for Desktop NAS Systems Bare Drive thanks
  4. thanks @trurl for the information. i shall leave the parity alone and just replace the data disk. thats better because the thought of trying to figure out how to do it the other way was making my head hurt :o haha
  5. quick question. im going to probably get the HGST 4tb NAS drive. thats is 7200 rpm. based off the hardware "which 4tb drive to buy" in the forums. this is my thought and question.... currently i have a wd 4tb as my parity. in those forums there are mixed feelings about if 7200 makes any difference other than running hotter in unraid. so assuming that unraid is faster with a 7200 rmp drive would it be wiser of me to use the new hdd as a parity? if the answer is yes then what is the best way to take the current 4tb parity drive and use that to replace the failing disk 2 mentioned above and take the new HGST and us that as the parity? thanks again!
  6. alright. so ill stop the parity and shut down the drive and figure out how to get a new one. thanks again!!
  7. Its been a little over a month since my last parity check so i decided to run one last week and i got on yesterday and much to my surprise it was saying 88 days remaining. the days have gone up to 254 days. I see on disk 2 some sector warnings and now its not passing smart test. Originally on disk 4 someone had mentioned that a few relocated sectors isnt necessarily the worst thing since there are thousands of sectors that are spare. now my problems appear to be with disk 2 I have attached syslog and smart test for disk2 obviously the smart tests have failed. Of course i want to see if anyone's able to tell me if this is a worse case scenario or replace asap..kind of low on funds at the moment. Also wanted to know if a preclear of the drive would do anything at this point? thanks again smart-report-disk2-20151019-2011.doc syslog-20151019-1949.zip
  8. Ignore my profile this is for a different server. The server is running 5.0.5. I logged into the GUI and it showed a red dot on one of the hdd but it didnt say why. It said the configuration is valid. Its disk sdd. I have attached a syslog. Thanks I also dont see anywhere that i can run a parity check. Am i missing something? Syslog.txt
  9. i typically shut off my server during the week cuz i really dont use it too often but on weekends to stream my movies....well three times the server turned off on its own... should i start a new thread or maybe its related to this problem i was having? thoughts? syslog attached... syslog-20150823-1601.zip
  10. I hope you know i dont mean this as an argument or anything like that. Im just trying to wrap my brain around why i would have a driver issue after so long of everything appearing to work thats all...hopefully the problem is gone for good and ill mark this as solved. Thanks! Well if i have thousands of extras than thats great! haha thanks again for all your help!
  11. thanks for checking that out. I can understand with something like windows where theres a bunch of programs and updates go through all the time but how could it be a software issue for unraid when it only updates when we tell it to update? oh how i dont understand this stuff!! lol i hate how my profile says im a SR member...only cuz i ask dumb questions all the time..haha thanks again I will continue to monitor it... I know you said ignore the sector relocate for the initial setup and all that but should i be concerned if it doesnt go away? thanks again
  12. I started it up and can access my data...im still worried about that kernel panic...since i havent changed anything in many many months i assume it has to be hardware not software... also after parity sync finished the faulty parity drive has gone away. relocated sector is still there for disk 4 i know you said to ignore that for now. im attaching a syslog...thanks syslog-20150815-1201.zip
  13. thanks for response. the panic was there every time i tried to boot until i put vs6 on the flash drive. i have not started normal. im still in maintenance mode because it shows my parity drive as faulty and says parity is invalid... Ok parity sync finished and faulty parity went away now im going to start it normally......
  14. i did a back up of my flash drive and decided to try version 6. it actually boots although i haven't mounted the drives. I'm in maintenance mode. It shows drive 4 has a relocated sector. My parity is a WD red 4tb which shws faulty and its my newest drive. probably got within 6 months ago...here are some screen shots. thanks
  15. I know this is an older topic. I have sas9220-8i and I for the life of me dont know what firmware i flashed it with. How can I find out and i want to see if there is an updated firmware. Thanks
  16. Any ideas? Im just kicking around ideas...im thinking maybe i should update firmware for my SAS card...I installed it a couple years ago. However I am a little confused on how to do it...I tried using this command below from http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=26774.0 and it came back and said bad command. Profile notes show my card. Thanks...just trying to think of things to do...I know it might be a PSU but i want to try other stuff before i spend 150 on a corsair HX PSU Not sure of this means anything but I just noticed during boot it goes as far as for me to log into the server but then quickly goes to the kernel error...
  17. about 22 hours of memtest and 0 errors...unraid in safemode doesnt work either Hopefully this pic helps...
  18. I cant currently remember which unraid os im running but i turned it on today and im getting this error "Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt" well thats the last line of text on screen anyways. All i have is a log from my last shut down which i will attach but i dont know if it shows any clues about what might be happening. I pulled out flash drive and ran a check disk in windows but it said the drive was fine. I will now start a memtest and take it from there. thanks in advance.... *maybe the os in my profile is up to date. syslog-20150809-215528.txt
  19. Just an update...Its been almost a month and everything is perfect. I hope this thread helps someone who may have this problem in the future! 8)
  20. Hey Wiz maybe you can help me out again so i lost connection to my telnet i pulled it back up and did what you said typed in "screen -ls" and it gave me the attached session name then i typed it in "screen -r 1999.pts-0.Whoshouse" without quotes of course and it says there is no screen to be resumed matching.........? any ideas thanks!
  21. here is an update from AsRock. I didnt bother with a response back to them...
  22. sweet sounds good thanks for the info i appreciate it! So at this point most of us are probably in agreement that its mobo limitation...ill mark as solved i suppose...thanks again
  23. I think i tried booting to flash drive manually...i can try again when preclears are done...thanks for tip Im preclearing 2 drives at once is that considered 1 session?
