I see the same thing ... only worse, I think
I ensured all disks were spun-down. I browsed to server, then disk 2, then drilled down and selected 5 files and right-clicked to add to VLC's playlist. Music started playing. Then went back to server, dbl-clicked disk 4... music stopped while disk 4 was spinning up. Dbl clicked a top directory and music broke up twice while disk was spinning up. Dbl clicked a folder and music broke up twice while directory listed.
Running unRaid 4.4.2. Quad core q6600 with 8gb ram. I currently have the LS-r trick disabled. Syslog shows nothing except my spindown events. User Shares disabled.

Currently I have 12 Seagate 1tb drives in my array and I have two spare drives. One is currrently in an external eSata enclosure as a Hot Spare. The other sits on top of the uRaid enclosure waiting. I have room inside the box for two more drives, but the location is not optimal as far as air flow, though drives in there would certainly run under 50°C. What I would LIKE to do is mount the two spare drives in there, but some how make sure they were ALWAYS spun-down until called into action. I would consider them "temporary" spares - new drives would replace the failed ones and the files moved from the "temporary" spares to the new drives and the "temporary" spares erased and spun down.
I figured a cron job that would periodically spin down the drive would do.... until it was put into action .... so, the drive as a spare should not be formatted and wouldn't be mounted, but once it was being put into the array, it would be mounted... test for that... I'm rambling... anyone listening
Also, I think this COULD be automated in the background... the switching to the hot spare, I mean...
Any comments? Am I dreaming?

Also look at the DG45ID.... it's a VERY solid reliable board ... I trust it so much that I put one in the new box I put together for "She Who Must Be Obeyed"

I wonder if it would be a good idea to have a place to list the Brand/Type of flash drives that people have had problems with... I've had similar problems with a Sandisk Cruiser/Micro 256mb. Yet I have a Sandisk Cruiser/Micro 512mb that's never given me a problem, though I've never used it as a boot drive.

Shouldn't this thread be moved to the Hardware section?

Journalling files systems and numerous "small" files apparently leads to looooong delete times.... I bet if you had left it alone and waited it out, the delete would have completed.

Tom... this thread should be moved to the appropriate 4.4 section...

I think if someone was to build a package to fix these two errors it would be greatly appreciated by many, and probably will be needed for several releases to come...

You want to make sure you also have the "powerdown" package installed.
Yup, did that as well... thought, by skimming this thread, that I needed to maybe do some config file editing...

Okay, I bought an APC ups with USB connection. Installed it and hooked up the UPS cable. Went into unMenu's package manager and fully installed the UPS package. Went into unMenu's SystemInfo/UPS_Status and see that it's responding and all looks well. Other than trying to set up e-mailed status as above, is there anything else I need to do?

What do "we" have to do to enable it on "scsi" devices which are actually SATA devices....
