I saw that you added an extra VM so I removed it. I installed a standard hard drive in place of the SSD and reinstalled windows 8. It now works fine through VNC. I have all of the virtualization stuff turned on in the bios and I had this working fine with my old Xen setup so I know it works. Any thoughts?

No plug-ins just a fresh install of r3. I do have a 180gig ssd as my cache drive would that matter? also the command you sent did not fix anything

I have having problems creating a windows 8 virtual machine. I'm having the same problem I used the create VM and filled out all the info. Nothing happened. I have tried every way possible. The .cfg file only has autostart="no" no matter how I set autostart. I have a quick question, is there any way to verify that all of my unraid traffic is going through the VPN both docker and Xen vm's? If I google "where am i" in my windows 8.1 vm it finds my exact location.

ZeroK, Did you manage to get the usb to pass through? That is the problem with installing this on hyper-v is windows does not pass through usb drives, so the current way of determining if you have a pro version based on the serial of the usb will not work. I have read online that some people have found ways to pass through a usb flash drive but no one has ever listed a model of usb flash drive that works.

I want to first say thank you for all the help and information you have provided us all. Secondly I have a question about my eth0 connection. It seems that I can not get it to connect at 1000 at all on any of my machines. I have two, one connects at 100 and the other at 10. I have tried to run ethtool -s can it does not return anything at all. I have a feeling this is a driver issue. Is there a xen driver like the one needed for windows (gplpv )? If so how can i install the correct drivers. Thanks! Scott

I am currently running the free hyper-v core version of sever 2012 which does not have the storage space option, at least not that I know of. I do have a Windows standard 2012 license I got through school but its only good for a year and I want this to be a set it up and forget it setup, not something I will have to revisit a year from now. How is the 4.2 Xen coming along?

I gave up on XENServer as soon as you started working with ddeads and realized that the motherboard would not support what you wanted. So if you get it work PLEASE let me know. As for Hyper-v 2012 its possible to get limited control by using the windows 7 hyper-v adviser, windows 8 would be better. What I did was installed hyper-v then installed windows 8 the RTM release in virtualbox on my main pc which is good for like 180 days or something, so that I could manage it easier. It is also very easy to do everything from command line and a quick google search can usually get you everything you need to know. I believe the unRAID Hyper-V bzroot and bzimage from ddeeds would fix my network issue but as of yet I have not heard from him.

Well I would love to report good new, but just like you I am unable to get yet another hyper adviser to work with this motherboard. I have tried ESXi (cant pass through the raid cards), I have tried XEN which is why I am on this thread, and now I cant get the network working for unraid in hyper-v. All I want is a virtual unraid without having to spend more money. Good news is Unraid works great if that's all you want to do with this server. I just hate knowing I have a dual processor motherboard that is not being used to its full potential

As far as I know it does actually pass the drive through. I will test it tonight with unraid and let you know if the drives spin down.

I also have the same server from TAM. I am using server 2012 core (hyper-v) I have unraid working as a VM. I am able to pass through drives to my windows 2008 R2 VM with no problems. I have not tried to pass through the hard drives to my unraid vm because I started with trying to pass through my USB device first. So far I have have not been able to find a way to pass my USB stick through, or in hyper-v term take it offline. I have read that there are some usb sticks that can be passed through but no one lists what brand or make they are.
