  1. Ok so i installed 2 new drives a couple days ago, making one of these new drives the parity drive. But i didn't assign the parity drive straight away as i was going to be doing alot of moving of files to clean things up first, which i did over the last couple of days.

Last night i assigned the parity drive and started a parity sync.. it's all finished and there are 24 errors reported for one of the drives.

Now one of the iso's that i tried to moved wouldn't it was failing 1/3 of the way through i tried a few times in mc and also from within windows onto main computer, so i ended up just deleting the file wasn't that important.

I'm now guessing this drive must have some bad sectors on it???

I've attached the syslog if that tells anyone in the know what the errors were caused by.

  2. have just added 2 new 1tb drives and am currently re organizing my files, into a structure as such

    \user shares

    \movies

        \a

            \movie name

        \b

        \c

    ect...

Now i'm moving all of folders A-H onto first new 1tb drive atm, leaving 300gb of free space .. Will then move folders I-whatever onto next ect, leaving approx 300gb free on each of the 5 drives that will be used for future adds

i'm wanting to make sure that any movie that gets added into a-h folder will be added to only drive 1.. So i am going to be using split level to do this right? and what number should i use? i'm guessing 2.. but i'm not 100% sure

  3. Hmm that doesn't seem to work for me. I used that *(rw,insecure) string and i just get an error about

"could not connect to the server because the name or password is incorrect"

    I've tried

    nfs://tower/movies

    nfs://root@tower/movies

    nfs://root:password@tower/movies

and get the same error. Any idea guys? I'm using beta6

try //tower/mnt/user/movies.. thats the true path

i've just given nfs a try again i had a little play around with it when it was first released with not a great deal of joy.. i'm using win 7 now which has built in supportonce turned on (which vista didn't.. had to download and install stuff to allow it to work)..

now i've got the shares added and can see them in explorer but when trying to open the drive i get access is denied... messed around and right clicking and going into properties you get a nfs attributes tab.. in there it had owner R,W,X all checked, but under group and other they weren't.. so checked them all and that got me into the drive and able to see the files.. but... couldn't access any files of folders, unless you right click on every single file 1 by 1 and do the same thing, which obviously isn't something thats realistic...

anyone else come across this or have any insite... selecting all files first doesn't give you the nfs attributes tab then

  4. the path is actually in your case 192.168.1.3:/mnt/user/movies w:

i found using the ip didn't work as well as going //tower/mnt/user/movies... but even then i still had alot of trouble getting it to mount, and when i did get some stuff to mount, i'd open it up but then it wouldn't let me into any of the folders inside... i got the shits after a few hours and uninstalled all the unix/nfs suport :P.. thought i'd wait for others to work it all out and fine tune it

Yes, any help from the experts would be very helpful.

I can't seem to get NFS shares to work between Unraid and Windows Vista after about 3 hours of messing with it.  I've done the following:

Executed samba stop in Unraid to be sure I would be using NSF

Added 192.168.1.100(rw) to all of the NSF exports

Installed Services for NFS / Client for NFS on Vista

Installed Subsystem for Unix-based Applications on Vista

When I attempt execute the command  mount 192.168.1.3:/movies w:  I get a Network Error 53 which is Network Path not found.

I've disabled all firewalls on the Vista machine.  Am I missing any critical steps to get this up and running?

  5. hey, i just loged into the server config page just wanted to check my current free space available and noticed the parity drive has gone red  :o, and shows 688 errors.

the severs still up and running sharing everything fine. so not sure if i should just do a restart and parity sync to see if it works itself out or not?

    system log attached

  6. kewl, actually having a problem atm with the ntfs suport thing... tried downloading the package but it came back saying it may be corrupt and it wont' install it, so i can't mount the drive ect... i've deleted the packages folder and restarting the server.. see how i go downloading it again

ok completely reinstalled unmenu and redownloaded the ntfs-3g package and still no go

i get this after download.... md5 Checksum: 7d6b633fe359fc2503a7e3c0c027a9ce (NOT matched - download may be corrupted.)

then when i hit install i get.... ntfs-3g-1.2216-i486-1McD.tgz installation:

Cannot install ntfs-3g-1.2216-i486-1McD.tgz: package is corrupt (failed 'gzip -l ntfs-3g-1.2216-i486-1McD.tgz')

ntfs-3g-1.2216-i486-1McD.tgz apparently did not install properly, /bin/ntfs-3g does not exist.

  8. hey joe, just installed and am having a problem getting the page to show.. did everything you said too, i think  :-\.. unziped files onto flash into a boot folder a made on the root of the flash. telneted in, cd to boot, and copy and pasted that nohup xxxx line into telnet, it returned with some numbers. tried to connect //sever:8080..(i've got mine called server) no go, tried tower:8080 just in case, no go.. restarted.. tried again, no go, telneted back in and redid the nohup thing, and still no go ??? ???

  9. hi, i've thought of an idea that probalby no doubt has already been mentioned, but if it hasn't here it goes...

i've just filled a 120g hdd with stuff and my brother has done the same, were actually meeting up tomororw and are going to swap drives/data.

what would be good is if we could connect them directly to the unraid server and add them as like a temp drive that has a fat/ntfs file system on it thats just for moving data onto the server, or off.

would save connecting it to a windows box and transfering it though the network, can just connect it directly and use, mc or whatever to copy the files off drive temp to drive permanent

  10. thinking of trying out using the cache drive again witht the new 4.4, one of the main things i'm hoping to do is, have a folder on it to have my downloads going into and not be excluded from being moved to the main array, not until the files are finished downloading and extracted and i move it over into say a folder on the drive ready to me moved?

  11. ok, just spent the last couple hours on the phone with my brother, he has replaced a 320gb drive with a 1tb drive to expand, but is having problems writing to it.

he pulled everything off the 320 to start with the night before getting the 1tb, removed it and replaced, started it up and it added it and started a parity sync, no format nothing.

then when going to write it would just freeze up, now before all this, the computer was getting stuck in bios where it comes up press bla bla to enter raid utility(drives arn't raided) when he added the 1tb, so he went into bios and disabled raid feature, which got it booting up into unraid.

we've got him to try a few things, but the main is we pulled the drive out and put it into his main computer to check if it was a fualty drive, gone into drive manager, deleted the volume/partition, formated it(in ntfs), all was good so replaced back into unraid,

    motherboard is an abit ic7-max3

    the main 2 sata ports, have a 1tb(parity) and a 750gb data

the 4 sillicon 3114 chip has the new 1tb and 3x320gb

tried swaping the 750 and 1tb data discs ports around, and with the thing in bios set to auto it froze on the raid thing again, so disabled again swaped back to the original way and rebooted

booted up, it's seen drive replaced, checked and hit restore to just reset everything, then it's come up with start, and it's doing the parity sync again. did no clearing and did no option to format?????

weather it's going to allow writing after the parity sync is done this time or not, time will tell.... but why isn't it doing a format, thats whats throwing me

  12. yep, that did it thanks webo, that "HWADDR=00:14:6C:C0:2D:07" line was in the network config file, so changed some of the numbers and were all good now.

so this is definatly something tom needs to look into, if his releases are bounding the mac to the same on every one, it's gonna start causing problems for ppl who want to get 2 running, even if it is temporary, to share files between, family/mates....
