  1. I just realized the fastest those regular old sata hdd can deliver is probably 6gbps right, which translates to about 750mb per second, right? So a 10g network is useless? My 1gbps should handle that no problem?
  2. Hold the phone batman. I just built a new desktop computer and the old one is still good. Here are it's specs. Asus X-99 A Rev 1 Mobo. Link to the MOBO manual https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA2011/X99-A/E10088_X99-A_UG_V3_U_for_web_only.pdf?model=X99-A 16gb RAM (4 Sticks) is this enough RAM for a file server? Intel Core i7-5820K CPU 3.3ghz Then I would add TP-Link 10Gbps PCIe Network Card (TX401) LSI 9305-16i PCI-Express 3.0 x8 (two of these)
  3. Ok what about this setup. ASUS PRIME B860-PLUS WIFI B860 LGA 1851 ATX motherboard Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF - Core Ultra 5 (Series 2) Arrow Lake 14-Core (6P+8E), LGA 1851 TP-Link 10Gbps PCIe Network Card (TX401) LSI 9305-16i PCI-Express 3.0 x8 two of these. CORSAIR Vengeance 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 5600 CORSAIR RMx Shift Series RM1000x Shift Fully Modular 80PLUS Gold ATX Power Supply Let me know if this is overkill for a file server. Thanks.
  4. What can you suggest for mobo cpu combo? Does it matter these days for just an Unraid file server? Should I just look for a mobo that has the stuff I want? Basically what I'm asking is hardware compatibility an issue these days? Also should it matter if I have one SATA controller or not? I was upgrading this server and put in a 20 port SATA PCI card so I could use that for all my drives on the new computer or is it better to have multiple cards for the hard drives?
  5. DOH!!! Thanks a bunch!!! I had no idea. What do you suggest? New computer or do they make a 10g card that plus in a different way?
  6. Got a new TP-Link 10g network card and installed it in my ASRock Z97 Extreme mobo. No dice. Tried two different slots and it didn't work. The lights on the network card don't ever come on so maybe it's a bad card, not compatible with my Mobo, mobo too old or needs to be enabled in the bios? Any help would be appreciated.
  7. Sorry for not closing this topic, but I never get notifications anymore. Anyway, it was ram. Didn't run a memtest, but replaced the RAM and it's been up since I posted this. Thanks for all the help.
  8. Just finished parity check. All seems good. Zero errors. Well I guess it was the RAM.
  9. So I woke up to my the unraid computer on, but nothing on the attached screen (total black - said no cable connected) and the web GUI on my house computer not pulling it up. Restarted the unraid, worked fine and started a parity check then 12 hours later same thing happened. My motherboard has a digital readout with error codes and said that the RAM was bad. So I just replaced the RAM cleared my MOBO CMOS and fired it up. It's working and again running a parity check. Here's my log file if anyone can let me know if there's any indication of what went wrong I'd appreciate it. Thanks. tower-diagnostics-20240318-1917.zip
  10. Ok tried understanding that thread. Here's my questions, which I hinted in the original post. I don't mind building a new system and just moving over the HDD. The system I built originally was just parts; meaning I didn't follow a build thread or look at approved components. Then later on I realized that the 20 HDD hot swap case I have has a not so good backplane. So can you direct me to a Up to Date Unraid Server build that can handle 14 Main Drives and 2 Parity drives? Thanks in Advance.
  11. Did a search not sure what to do. One of my disks says 1230 errors. So I ran a Parity-Check and that came back as clean, no errors. So is it just a bad disk? I don't know how to check the smart report. On the dashboard it has a green thumbs up for the SMART column. So what should I do? Also, I've had multiple problems over the years with my hardware setup, nothing major at all just replacing sata boards with more stable ones and bad cables, but it seems as the 20 bay case I have has a not so good backplane. Does anyone make a unraid case with computer and everything that's totally stable, but doesn't come with hard drives? oops forgot the disk log. tower-diagnostics-20211222-1053.zip
  12. Ok. Thanks. Should I put the drive in a new slot and then rebuild that disk? or go a different route?
  13. Ok I just had a drive go with the red X and it's about 6 months old. Can someone look at my log to see why it in an error state? I assume to replace it and rebuild the drive? I have a new one coming and will do that and then warranty the old one. Then I get to put another one in LOL. tower-diagnostics-20211019-1504.zip tower-syslog-20211019-2207.zip
  14. I'm not sure why people are referring to OSX, I'm using a PC Windows 7. So all that makes no sense to me. I tried the remove all in the directory, same result. I'll try setting new permissions, not sure how, but I'll look it up.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion. I tried what you instructed above, but it won't delete. It says "cannot delete directory not empty" I tried deleting the folder inside that and it wouldn't delete that either. Weird thing is I can rename the folders, but not delete it. Not sure what you mean by "I thought the file was a file but in fact it was a bundle/folder which looks like a single file with an extension and contains other files. To delete it I had to add the extension as in .sparsebundle I could only delete it in telnet like below." Could you explain further? Thanks.
  16. Still can't delete it. Any suggestions? Should I copy everything off the drive and then replace the drive?
  17. I'm not sure how to do that specifically, but here's my syslog, if that helps. tower-syslog-20150729-0842.zip
  18. For some reason I have another folder that was called Captain America, but I knew that as I tried to delete that too. At the same time and separately. But inside of that in MC, no there's nothing in there.
  19. Ok it didn't delete in MC. I navigated to the directory and clicked on delete and it said, "Directory not empty, Delete it Recursively?". I clicked yes and then it said, "Cannot Remove Directory, Directory Not Empty".
  20. Thanks. I use MC all the time to transfers files from one drive to the next. I tried it before in MC, but that didn't work. I'll try again and if it doesn't work I'll post what is says. Thanks for all the help.
  21. I'm sure I am! LOL. Anyway, it's the folder Captain Amer. \\TOWER\disk9\Movies\Captain Amer. I shortened it thinking maybe it was not deleting because of the name or something. So I can change the name but not delete it. I tried once in Putty, but not since I went to a newer version of unraid. I'll try that next.
  22. No, the disk is full of files. I just want to remove the one empty folder.
  23. Ah ok. Thanks. It's not a share, it's just a folder a movie was in that I moved. While I was moving it via Putty it said it couldn't be deleted. That was a while ago and I forgot about it. I'm not very versed in command line things. Should I use the same command line that you mentioned for just a regular folder?
  24. Cool. Thanks. Here ya go. tower-diagnostics-20150727-1403.zip
  25. Ok. Did that copied the files bzimage, bzroot, and syslinux folder to the flash drive. Rebooted and it now says V6.01. I still can't delete the folder. I don't know much about these systems. Should I re-run reiserfsck? or should I do something else? Thanks.
