  1. Here are my results from DD... (Before) 2 x Samsung 850 Pro 256GB Sata3 in Raid1 -> 425MB/s to 465MB/s (After) 4 x Samsung 960 Pro NVME in RAID10 -> 1.5GB/s to 1.6GB/s I'm a happy camper ?
  2. Yes I've used DD in the past, mostly interested in raw speeds. I wasn't sure if there was another tool or plugin in Unraid that was better. I will post my results to forum, Thanks for your advice
  3. What do you recommend to test read/write speed on the cache RAID? I just ordered 4th SSD, but am interested now in testing both ways.
  4. OK. I will order one more SSD, Thanks!
  5. Ahh yes, the write hole problem. I will forget RAID5 then. You're right, 3 is not a good number. Would it make more sense to pickup one more SSD and use RAID10? Am I right in assuming RAID10 will provide the best write speeds/reliability for the cache pool?
  6. I am also interested in the performances of different BTRFS RAID levels. I am about to upgrade the unRAID 6.4.1 motherboard to a Gigabyte Designare EX which has 3 onboard NVME slots. I have 3 Samsung 960 drives I would like to use and not sure of the best way to configure. I was thinking about RAID 5, but still see the disclaimer: "RAID5/6 are still considered experimental and not ready for production servers, though most serious issues have been fixed on current kernel at this of this edit 4.14.x" This is a production server so I hesitate on using RAID5 unless this is old information. The motherboard has onboard RAID for the NVME, but I'm not sure of reliability of unRAID using cache single with the motherboard providing underlying RAID to the 3 NVME drives. What do you guys recommend for best performance and space using 3 NVME drives? (I am backing up cache data regularly to the array) Are there still issues with RAID5 for cache on 6.4.1?
  7. Not actually quite sure, it appears you create the RAID array in the BIOS, maybe some kind of FakeRaid/ Raid on chip, etc? It appears that you install software to manage it after that, but I'm guessing whatever OS will see the array as a single entity if configured in the Bios. Is this considered software RAID? http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_x399-designare-ex_e.pdf (Page 61 - 68)
  8. Found this post and I am also about to upgrade my motherboard, CPU, Ram, and cache drives on my Unraid 6.4.1. I currently have a Supermicro X9SCM with a Xeon E3-1290v2, 32gb ECC and has a pair of mirrored 256gb Samsung 850 Pro SSDs for cache (BTRFS). Currently has no VMs, and 3 dockers (Netdata, Plex, Tautulli) I am installing a Gigabyte X399 Designare EX, AMD Threadripper 1950X, and 64GB of ECC ram. I want to move cache off of sata SSD and onto 3 Samsung 960 512gb NVME SSDs. The primary use is a large media server running Plex and I'm trying to maximize the number of transcodes possible. At some point I want to migrate from Plex docker to a VM so I can passthrough a good GPU for hardware transcoding (Quadro P5000 or P6000) The new motherboard hasn't arrived yet, but appears to support hardware RAID on the 3 onboard NVME slots. Has anyone used this for Unraid cache? I am looking for the best performance and reliability and wonder what you guys would recommend for using 3 NVME cache drives, letting Unraid handle redundancy or the motherboard RAID? The manual shows a "Disable Global C-State" option in the bios settings, is that enough to avoid any problems with Unraid?
  9. Thanks for the tip, I tried the Fix Common Problems plugin, but nothing related to my issue. I noticed that samba was upgraded in new Unraid release, could this be a samba bug? I read that samba has issues with 32,000+ folders but I'm at 1/3 of that inode limit. Anyone else missing shared folders after upgrading?
  10. I upgraded to 6.3.1 from 6.2.4 last week and got an error about too many profiles in my (dual) cache, ran a balance on the cache, then it seemed fine. Today I opened my Movies share and saw only 4,300 folders out of 9,500 folders that I had, tried other samba clients and same there. I SSH'd in and all folders were there. Local Plex server docker saw all folders. The other Plex servers on the lan only saw 4,300. On Windows, if I manually traversed to one of the missing folders it worked!? After restarting unraid and clients and nothing helped I finally decided to downgrade back to 6.2.4, so I... Stopped Array, copied /boot/previous/bz* to /boot and rebooted. Unraid came back up on 6.2.4 and all movies are back on samba share, woohoo. Then realized Docker tab is missing completely from the GUI, so I.. Went to Settings, Docker, nuked docker image, Restored my Appdata using the awesome CommunityApplications Backup and rebooted Now the Docker tab is back, but no dockers in there so I went to Apps, Previous Apps, and reinstalled all my dockers. Have any of you guys seen this strange issue with samba shares or know of a fix? Since I am paranoid, I ran this command in SSH to count directories to compare with the # of directories appearing in Windows from the share: {use your share path} find /mnt/user/Movies/* -maxdepth 0 -type d | wc -l I hope this info helps somebody else that's wondering where their stuff went
  11. I'm not sure this is the right place to post this, but I have a couple issues with the Dolphin Docker. How to disable the Trash or map it outside the Docker? When I delete large folders, the trash fills up the docker image. How can I change the IP/interface that it uses? (instead of 127.0.0.1 ->5901) Once I multihomed my server, Dolphin fails to connect. I would also like to bind it to only one interface for security reasons. Is it possible to password protect access to Dolphin? Or change the user that Dolphin runs as?
  12. I am also hoping for fan control for my Supermicro X9SCM. Thanks!
  13. I would love to see Notify My Android as one of the notification options in Unraid 6. I have been using it for years for CP, Sickrage, etc and it works awesome. Here is their API: http://www.notifymyandroid.com/api.jsp
  14. Opps I accidentally removed my post about my character encoding issue. Well I figured it out why the special characters failed. I had mounted an Unraid 5 drive and was copying to Unraid 6 box but realized my mount command was missing this: iocharset=utf-8 This hosed any special charset (éàçöü®......) Feeling silly for not searching a little harder :-)
