  1. The machine I'm messing with has 6.5, let's say I create a a 7.1 usb drive, not upgrading, just a trial os, and start the server, will my drives show as blue? Just over-thinking this. Thanks.
  2. If I haven't assigned a parity drive in the "new" server, will it automatically give me the option to erase?
  3. I have 5 disks from a previous unraid server, media files (movies and such), formatted as xfs, that I want to wipe clean, to use as fresh drives in a new unraid server to use for new data. It seems like years ago there was a program to restore them to factory, but I can't find it anymore. There must be a way, I can't be the only one using older drives. My thoughts only go to preclear as an unassigned disk? Any help sure appreciated. I also have 1 parity drive, same process??
  4. After all this, I just updated to 7.1.4, all when perfectly Thanks!
  5. Just curious, is my 6.4 PRO license good for the current 7 updates, or am I required to purchase new license?
  6. My final checklist here before I puse the button! Made sure my drives are in the right position as I switched my Marvell card to LSI. I backed up my version of 6.5 as a zip file, just in case. I think I read I should also backup the config file to insert into the new version as that contains my GUID? A parity check hasn't been done in over 1200 days (server's been off), should I do one under 6.5 or wait until 6.12 running? So I've decided to go to 6.12.6, I've downloaded the zip file ready to go. My media files are xfs and my parity drive is formatted bfrts, any problems there? I have no dockers, VM's or apps, as they couldn't be updated so I deleted them, basically all I use is Plex which I can reinstall after the update, if I make that far! Am I missing anything? Thanks-kristisdad
  7. After many years of having my server tucked away serving my Plex, it's time to blow out the dust and upgrade. Well many of the docker and such I had back then, give me errors that I need an updated version to update and just ignore me. My thoughts are to upgrade to the last 6 version (6.12.?) but I'm not exactly sure what I'm going. I'm not going to 7 version, on this server, I have 3, trying to stay cost effective. I'm getting older here, so from what I've read I should back-up my files, flash the version that I want (where in the heck do I get that?), make sure my drives are in the right location and boot 'er up. Plex is probablymy main concern. I guess I should delete the dockers and plug-ins that no longer update because of being out-dated and reinstall with the new OS upgrade? I just don't want to lose all my media, took too many years to collect. Thanks for any tips or hints - kristisdad
  8. GPU questions? I've tried the GT610 route...freezes up on reboot, tried the GT720 route...no sound with usb. Which cards are proving themselves...I'm looking at GT750Ti (kinda pricey, but..), GT730, at this point I just hate throwing more cash at a nvidia card. Other choices in the amd might be 5450 or 6450. Are the amd cards proving more reliable for Openelec, I don't see much otherwise. Any input appreciated ~ Dave
  9. Thanks saarg, maybe you missed my point. Do I create the file in text editor or text wrangler and paste it into the config file? I understand what you're saying, I just don't understand the mechanics ~ Dave Let's see if I've got it. I create a file in notepad++ using that info, name it sound.conf and save it or paste it into the .config/modprobe.d/. Is this how the file is created and entered?
  10. I have 2 GT720 cards, 1 for windows VM (working great, needs no adjustment) and the other for OE Vm. I want to use HDMI, however, at current Kodi (OE) has problems with this and I need to create a file in config folder of OE. .config/modprobe.d/sound.conf with the code line options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1 in order to get the HDMI to work without popping noises. Being the total novice that I am, how in the heck do I accomplish this? All my research just says to do it, but I don't have the foggiest idea how to. I'm currently using a VGA cable combined with external speakers, but I shouldn't have to do this. Any help sure would be appreciated ~ Dave
