  1. Thanks for your reply. I don't have any performance issues as such, my wife would always like it faster, so i like to try to keep improving it, but I am not sure where to go from here. I thought perhaps going dual NIC, but i wondered if there was a next logical step up from the addonics controllers I am using. I selected the addonics only because it was on the unraid compatibility list and seem to be plug and play whilst supporting sata3. Thanks Frank, I'll do a search for win ten smb problems and implement and fixes recommended on the forum.
  2. Hi Folks, I have been using unraid for a few years now. Migrated from windows home server V1. This server is primarily used for a photographic business, with some home media server and backup duties I am getting some funny behavior that I can't nail down. Every once in a while the server stops responding to SMB requests. I can access via the web gui but the web gui stops responding about a minute after i start using it in this scenario (normal times the web gui is fine). I can then putty into it, but any attempt to restart it via command line fails, it just sits there. If openelec is playing a video via smb during all this it just keeps playing without issue, but any attempt to browse the file shares just hang (windows 10 does not report an error if browsing from laptop, it just sits there waiting). The only way to get the server back is a hard boot. Pressing the power button does not result in a proper shutdown (as it normally would for the server outside this scenario) This same behaviour started on V5, at which point i suspected a hardware failure (8 year old machine) so i replaced everything but the drives. I am hoping you can give me some insights based on the diagnostic file attached, and the the description above - as to whether i have any sub optimal configuration at play. Current Hardware: ASRock H97 Performance Enermax psu Intel Pentium CPU G3260 8GB Ram 2X Addonics ad4sa6gpx2 Intel CT Gigabit network adaptor 80gb intel 520 ssd cache 240 gb intel 535 ssd cache wd red 3gb parity wd red 2gb data 2x wd red 3gb data sandisk cruiser usb The other thing i'd like advice on is where to go next with this server.... cpu, nic, controller card? I'm getting around 110MB/s on parity calc. Current plan is a 240gb ssd for cache pool, and 5tb drive to replace current parity and shift that to storage pool. Thanks, i know everyones time is valuable, hopefully i have give the right info up front. solar-diagnostics-20160409-1338.zip
  3. Hi there, was this something that got rolled up into unraid 6? or is this script modification needed in 6 as well? cheers
  4. Hi, Did you ever figure this out? I have similar symptoms.
  5. Yes, Sorry forgot to mark it as solved! Loving Unraid 6, awesome product, worth every penny.
  6. Argh! For some reason i never thought to look there, didn't scroll down and i'm on a tiny screen and couldn't see it. many thanks for your help sir :-)
  7. I used fdisk to delete the partition, but adding it as a cache disk saw unraid report it as unmountable.
  8. Hi, I've done a search but everything i found said unraid should just format the cache drive ready to go. My problem is I have added a 80gb Intel 320 Series SSD as a cache drive on unraid 6.1.0 but when i bring it online it's reporting a file system of NTFS with a size of 105mb. I have had a look through the gui and found no way i can pre clear it or do anything like that. Is there something I can do to resolve this? many thanks 10meg
  9. Ok, update. So I upgraded from 5.05 to 6.1 - using the instruction here: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrading_to_UnRAID_v6 (which are excellent!). Uptime so far is 1 hour 15 minutes. I've run permissions (just in case) and i'm running a parity check - running a parity check reproduced my fault within 5minutes 100% of the time with 6.0.1, so i'm pretty hopeful that whatever the issue was has not occurred in 6.1. It's possible the work between 6.0.1 and 6.1 resolved whatever this issue was but i personally think that either I missed something in the 6.0.1 upgrade instructions, or there was something missing in the 6.0.1 instructions (probably the former as i was following the short and sweet instructions). Just wanted to report this to close this out.
  10. Hi Guys, Thought I would report an issue i was seeing, just in case anyone else comes across it. Issue: After upgrading to unraid 6.01 from 5.05 the system becomes unresponsive to both web gui and ping (system runs headless and it is not possible to connect a monitor practically) More Detail: System would idle fine for at least 30 minutes, as soon as i provoked disk activity (either with array online via a network copy or by adding a new disk and having it preclear with the array offline) the web gui would give a 404-esqe error and the server would not respond to ping. Logs: Unable to get logs as they clear on reboot as far as i can tell Upgrade process: Followed to the letter on the "short and sweet" instructions, no issues encountered Troubleshooting steps take: - New usb slot - re-wiped usb and tried again - swapped out switching hardware - cold restart (capacitors empty) - machine idled for 30 minutes with array offline - issue did not occur, only occured after 10 minutes of network copy with array online or within 3 minutes of trying to preclear a new disk. Hardware: Asus P5Q Pro Intel Pentium e5300 4 GB ram 2X WD Red 3TB 1x WD Red 2TB 1X Seagate 2TB Ultimate resolution: Roll back to 5.05, no further issues encountered (afraid i did not have time to troubleshoot as my wife needs this machine for her photography work urgently, only upgraded to 6 as i wanted to add an extra hard drive and thought i would buy a basic license instead, i upgraded the basic license to plus license which allowed me to use the additional hard drive in unraid 5, i'll try unraid 6 in a few month when the next stable comes out. Just posting this in case anyone else had similiar issues, - i don't need any active support on this - if you would like logs or anything out of my unraid 5 install for whatever reason i am happy to provide them, just say the word. cheers 10meg
  11. Ok, it's fixed. Unfortunately i was working under pressure as my wife REALLY needed something off the server - so i didn't have time to isolate exactly what the problem was... BUT: - I could not run safe mode as I'm headless and i couldn't find the right cables, i think my wife threw them out (THERE IS A THEME HERE!) - When trying to perform a clean powerdown the disks where held busy by cache directories - I then performed a shutdown -r now - I disabled the following in the web gui: - Sickbeard - Couch potato - Cache directories - I then rebooted the server using the web gui - Started the array - All was well! so, something above fixed it, personally i think it was cache directory since it was stopping the disks from being released... but that's just a guess. Thank you all for your assistance 10meg
  12. Sorry I'm showing my ignorance here... that's basically normal mode but with all plugins disabled? Safe mode boot should have all user shares available? Or do I need to do something once in safe mode? You are correct on safe mode - no plugins, but shares should show. Before you do that... if you map a drive to \\tower\flash and look under the config folder can you open share.cfg in notepad and does everything look fine? If so, do you have a shares folder under config? It should have a file for each share that exists (at least it does in 6.0... I don't remember if 5.0 did this as well). See if you can open/read any of the share files in notepad. If you can do the above, but the shares still don't work I would try and create a new test share, and drop a dummy file in to make sure that works. If it does, delete the share config file (i.e. tv.cfg) from \config\shares and then try and re-create the share. None of this will touch your data - it's only dictating access to it via shares. IF 5.0 doesn't have the \config\shares folder then someone on 5.0 may need to comment (assuming you are running 5.0 - you don't mention). Thanks, very informative, i'll try all that tonight - running 5.5 or thereabouts So if a share is not there but there is a folder on the data disk called "tv" and i create a share called "tv" it will discover all the files in that folder and they will appear in the new share? is that correct? Correct. It will create a share using the existing folder and you should be able to see the contents. I am wondering if the \config\shares\ files got corrupted when the power was yanked. If there is no \config\shares folder all the details may be in the \config\share.cfg file - as I mentioned, it's been a year or so since I ran 5.0 and it's hard to remember how 6.0 differs from 5.0.5 or earlier. Either way hopefully I've given enough detail that you can sleuth it out. That really helps, many thanks all

  15. Sorry I should have said that, yep it all seems normal and it does say enabled under user settings, there is also that "sickbeard" user share visible as well. I'm half wondering if sickbeard or something plugin wise is messing it up and it's stuck trying to create the user shares... and it can't unmount them because it hasn't finished mounting them?
  16. Hi Team, Loving this product, even with my current issue - i suspect a usual raid array would have failed completely in this situation, whereas i can still see all my files spread across my disks! My darling dearest beloved wife kicked the power cord out of the server (don't ask me how, it was well out of the way) - on reboot the only user share that appears is an empty one i created recently called "sickbeard" as i was mucking around with sickbeard for a while a few months ago (the directory should be empty, there was nothing in it) What's happened so far: - It has completed a parity check with zero errors - It's had a good 12 hours running since the hard reboot - I can see all my files on the two data disks, i do not appear to have lost any data - User shares are not visible. What i have tried: - Attempts to clean reboot fail - it gets stuck saying "retry unmount user share" over and over again - Manual Hard reboot via console command "shutdown -r now" command brings it back up in the same state - I have disabled almost all plugins but HAVE NOT rebooted yet (currently at work with no remote access) What i intend to try when i get home: 1. Reboot with no plugins [if that doesn't work]: 2. Start from scratch, manually consolidate data from the two disks onto another drive, stand up fresh unraid server and manually copy everything across. I have attached a log from the server rebooting (this is before plugins were disabled) - hope someone might be able to cast their eye's across it and confirm my proposed plan of attack above is apropriate. many thanks 10meg solarlog.txt
