  1. given that current build is a step backwards in some respects in order to solve problems... and given that there still seems to be a lot of problems to solve... if I was the one trying to solve these problems then your question would make most likely frustrate me, just slightly.
  2. if you install snap then the drive is identified by serial number and mounted automatically. It is then available as a share that you define. This is the method I used for installing to a disk outside the array because I didn't want to have to update scripts every time I changed my disk configuration changes.
  3. The scripts run as root already, which is why we need chown, usermod and su to run the application as nobody. If you need to run it as root under 4.7, just remove those lines. If you want to try and save your existing install rather than re-installing, you can make the appropriate changes to the .manual_install and .auto_install files, and manually `chown -r root:root` the install and log directories. I am running unraid 4.7. I've installed Sab & Sickbeard by following the first post in this thread. As Gizmotoy experienced Sickbeard was unable to browse folders properly. I tried removing the 3 lines as suggest above but after a restart of unraid, when I click the start sab or sickbeard button it says it has started but it hasn't and the button doesn't change after a refresh.... i am new to linux but am learning.... would be great if somebody could help, thanks
  4. after reading some tutorials on linux and giving it some more thought I decided that maybe snap would be a better solution. This is mainly because I've noticed the "sdx" assigned to drives can change when more drives are added to the system and I would like a set and forget solution, and snap sounded straight forward to setup. unfortunately the install script would not work so I had to install it manually... some hours latter I now have a mounted shared hard drive outside the array. Yaa! I can't help thinking about the post I saw recently about everything to do with unraid being hard. oh well.. now I am finally ready to have a go at installing sabnzb & sickbeard..... this should be fun....
  5. Thanks Joe Your guess is correct. could you please help me out with the lines I need to add?
  6. Firstly I'd like to thank everyone who helped me when my parity drive died. With your help i've learnt a lot. This weekend i installed unmenu and have been playing around with it, trying to learn how it all works before I attempt to install sabnzb & sickbeard. today i've installed an old 320g drive and precleared it. I then used unmenu to partition it. The disk management tab lets me mount the drive as read only or read/write. There is also an option to share the drive. Theres 2 things I need help with. 1. Is there a way to make the drive mount and share automatically after a restart? My guess is that i need to add some lines to the go file 2. on the unmenu main page the drive has two entries: /dev/sdi ST3320620AS_9QF0P38M /dev/sdi1 ST3320620AS_9QF0P38M I'm guessing the sdi1 refers to the partition? but don't know why this is different to array drives...

  8. ok.. im starting to feel way out of my depth here.... I'm using a Supermicro X7SPA-HF-O board and controlling it remotely wit IPMI. As you can see from the attachment, once text goes of the top of the screen I can no longer access it.... Can somebody help me interpret this.. or help me see what the rest of the report said??
  9. from what I had read in the preclear thread I had expected a smart report at the end of the preclear. I'm sure this is covered somewhere in the forum... but could somebody please give me instructions on how to run a SMART test. thanks...
  10. thanks for the help. I decided to plug the HD into another slot and plug in a different cable power cable. Next I tried to run a preclear. (I guess I should have done this before I had a problem) The HD is WD green 2tb drive. Stage 1 was showing that it was reading up to 100MB/s but often slowed down.. towards the end it was slowing down a lot. When I went to bed it was up to 95% and had taken about 13hrs.... When I woke up I have the following results in the attached file... I'm not sure why it's scrolled up... maybe my cat walked on the keyboard . But I can't tell from this what has happened... can somebody please help
  11. ok... the parity drive has gone red again with 2,880 errors.... I don't think it will be a cable problem as they all seem to be firm and its all brand new... the psu and 4way sas connector... how do I determine for sure the drive is faulty.. and what proof can I provide if I send back for a warranty claim?
  12. I've had unraid running for a while now with no major issues, but now I'm freaking out! Just earlier I checked and unraid showed my parity drive flashing red. I did a restart, all hard drives were found by the bios.. but then unraid showed the parity drive as blue and said it was a new drive!! It's currently rebuilding parity now... but this has got me really worried... I have attached a syslog, can somebody help diagnose please! syslog.txt
  13. I'm not sure I would label this solved yet. I would suspect that you have a cabling problem.
  14. ok.. this is getting frustrating. the only way I can get media player to refresh the library to show newly added files is by doing a complete restart of windows... is this a samba issue? please help!
  15. ok, looks like i just had a freak out for no reason. after deleting the library and re-adding it seems to be working reliably now..
  16. i set up my unraid server a month or so ago and have been happily watching video in mce/media browser ever since. Today I reconfigured media player to see my music library on the unraid share. unfortunately its not playing very well, ever few minutes it is pausing and sometimes says the network location is unavailable. I have made sure the drives are not spinning down. like I said, video streams fine so I'm at a loss...
  17. thanks for the feedback. this sounds like a good way for me to proceed. I have a 60G SSD for win7 so i could probably partition 30-40gb for live tv then move this to unraid each day. Could you give me detailed instructions on how to set up a script to move the files daily? also.. what if a recording was taking place at the time the script runs, would it try move it too?
  18. I've almost finished moving all my media and hard drives from my htpc to my newly built unraid server. I'm was hoping to get some advise or feedback on whether its a bad idea to use a share from unraid for Win7 Media Centres live tv cache and recording. I would like to move this drive to my nas also but am concerned if bandwith may be an issue or more so, spinup times etc may effect the reliability of my live tv watching/recording.
  19. Hi guys. I've been reading for a few weeks and just finished my first build. I'm currently waiting for my first 2tb to copy across my network so I can move that disk into the array. at 20mb sec im now 8hr down with 16 to go It has just occurred to me that it would have been faster to have made the first transfer with no parity disc assigned... Then I read up about installing the ntfs disk directly into the server for the transfer. I've been reading about problems with Unicode characters in file names, but these posts and wiki entries seem to be from around 2008. Can anybody help with detailed instructions on how this can be done using different tools that handle Unicode characters? This is my first time using linux so please be gentle! I've used msdos years ago so know what a command line is, just no experience with linux. Thanks
