  1. I voted for rc16b. I'm planning on purchasing two more pro keys shortly so I'll probably just hold off until these things get straightened out. Then I can expand my unRAID3 to at least twenty drives(for 38TB) and will have a fourth pro license to use as a spare or to setup a 4th unRAID build.
  2. If you want to run SATA ports 5 and 6 at full SATA speed and not hobbled by IDE emulation. Also to use a port multiplier enclosure with the eSata port. I installed "The Bay" BIOS and was able to separately connect a 4 Bay MediaSonic enclosure and a 4 Bay Sans Digital enclosure to the eSATA port. And unRAID could see the four drives in each of the external enclosures. Prior to the BIOS change I could only see a drive when I used a single drive enclosure connected to the eSATA port.
  3. Lately, when changing to the new rc version, I have been removing the flash drive and bringing it to my desktop PC to copy the files. Am I able to do this over the network without any issues? I'm assuming you can since it's recommended to use an internal USB port, but I just wanted to make sure that there are no issues backing up the files and installing new files to the USB drive over the network. Since over the past 2.5 years I have always removed the flash drive to do anything to the files.
  4. Does enabling write cache have any noticeable benefit? I just changed mine. When it was disabled I was doing around 45MB/s for a parity sync. With it enabled the speed jumped to over 100MB/s. That's interesting. I wonder if there are any downsides to enabling it. Why is it disabled by default? It says in the BIOS that if you lose power with caching enabled that you can lose data. So I guess as long as the MicroServer is connected to a UPS it should be fine.

  6. What about the sata rate? If I set it to 3Gbps Max, does that mean every drive will try to run at that link rate? Or is auto the setting I need?
  7. Is the power button on your monitor broken? The button is hard to get to since it's behind a support for the shelves that holds the monitor and unRAID enclosures.
  8. OK. I finally got around to setting up my N54L. I flashed the Bios. So if I have everything set up right, when I connect a drive to the eSATA port it should show up as AHCI right? Instead of IDE? Also is there anything I need to do to enable port multiplier capability from the eSATA port? I've loaded unRAID r15a so far with no issues. Hopefully I'll have another port multiplier capable enclosure removed from my WHS so I can try out the eSATA port. Plus I still need to get another Rosewill RC-218 card. And of course get a third unRAID license.
  9. On a possibly related note. I upgraded my N40L unRAID server to V5.0rc15 and since I did that it does not shut off the display on the monitor I have it attached to. I followed the directions for rc15 and copied the bzroot, bzimage and syslinux.cfg then rebooted the box. I was on rc12a before which shutdown the display just fine. I'm going to try rc15a tonight but I don't believe any of the changes from 15 to 15a would affect this. Hmmm...now that you mention that I am seeing the same thing with my unRAID VM with RC15a. Doesn't really bother me but it definitely didn't do it before...at least with RC13 as far as I can remember. John I noticed this as well. My monitor is staying on. But I see it's been this way the last few releases. I've had to just unplug the monitor. Otherwise rc15a has been working fine on both my unRAID setups. i maxed out the drives on my unRAID1 and tonight I should max out the drives on my unRAID2 once I remove another drive from my WHS.
  10. The upgrade went fine with my second unRAID.
  11. I loaded rc15a on my main unRAID and it has been fine. I'll put it on my second unRAID later tonight.
  12. Thanks.. I kept wondering why I couldn't figure out how to access it.
  13. I thought there was supposed to be some way to do a preclear from the web GUI? My main page is showing the two disks that are not part of the array, but I don't see an option to start a pre clear. I've never used a pre clear before. In the past when I cleared any drives, the array could not be used during the process. So I was interested in trying the preclear so I could continue using the array while the drives are being cleared.
  14. I removed a few more of the plug-ins. One of them must have been causing the issue because now it looks like it is supposed to in chrome. Maybe it was the Directory caching one. I noticed it was using all the free memory and things were slow so I removed it? I also removed the Log viewer Plug-IN and the System Temp plug in. Edit: I think I'll add the System temp Plug-IN back. I also want to try the Pre-clear later with my second unRAID setup. After I finish removing another hard drive from my WHS.
  15. What is the ".DS_Store" file in the Plugin folder? Can I delete this along with the plugins I don't want to use? Also is there something I need to add to Chrome to make it look right in the web browser? Or do I have to use INternet Explorer for it to look like it does in the pictures?
  16. I've got RC15 on my unRAID1 and unRAID2 setups now. So far I've not run into any issues.
  17. OK I'm a little confused now. When I get home I will try this on my unRAID2 setup. It has 2GB of memory. Do I need to do anything special with this release, like not copying over the config file for it to work? Will not copying over the config file get it to work with my unRAID1 that has 4GB of memory? Since it didn't work last night when I copied over all three files.
  18. How much ram do you have and which boot option did you select? Even on my ESX system, there's a really long pause as it's attaching drives until a failure shows up. Without the mem= parameter it comes up normally. My system only has 4 drives though. I have 4GB of memory. I didn't select any boot option. I thought if you had 4GB or less there was no need to select a boot option? I guess I need to hook up a monitor to be able to select an option. WHich would be kind of a pain to do that since I don't normally run the unRAID 24/7. I boot it every day. So I would need to select an option everytime I boot? I'll need to check it out with my second unRAID(which is connected to a TV) tonight after it finishes with the files I am copying over. I think I have 2GB of memory in that one, maybe 4GB, I'm not sure. I don't run any Add Ons so I don't need alot memory in either of my unRAID setups.
  19. I tried out rc14 on my unRAID1 setup. I replaced the three files but it got stuck partway through the boot. Something about losing a connection which I guess is my external enclosures. It never got to the point where it recognized the 17 drives in my external, port multiplier, enclosures. I tried a second time with the same results. So I copied the three files from rc12a back onto the flash drive and it booted normally. I have no idea what the issue was. I'll need to try it on my second unRAID setup tomorrow, which only has eight drives in external enclosures, to see if it has a similar issue.
  20. I meant the shutdown issue. I have been initiating shut down with the power button since when I tried it from the web GUI it froze. But this morning after shutting down, when I brought it back up the array was stopped and it should not have been. So I reverted back to rc12a for now. No idea what causes it, but I'll check out rc13 back on my primary unRAID to see if that ends up showing the same issue.
  21. I went back to rc12a for now since I got hit with the stopped array issue again. Although I did switch my primary unRAID from 4.7 to rc12a. I'm in the process of running the new permissions utility. So far no issues. And all the drives came up in the proper position. I just had to double check t make sure everything was correct. I'll try rc13 on my main unRAID setup later this weekend.
