  2. Thank you Frank1940 I will see about the warranty. I appreciate the help.
  3. Hi unRAID fans! new disk that I had laying around. Is it ok for the server? preclear_finish_WD-WCC4E5ET0RAA_2018-07-07 preclear_rpt_WD-WCC4E5ET0RAA_2018-07-07 preclear_start_WD-WCC4E5ET0RAA_2018-07-07
  4. Just upgraded my CPU to a Phenom II x 4 945 from a Sempron 145 for that Plex and 8 Gigs of Ram Installed new Arctic fans since the old ones started to whine after 7 years. A new CPU cooler too I had laying around. But the coolest is that fan controller I had laying around. Double sided tape on one side in the case. ? Server going strong!
  5. Just finished this Seagate IronWolf. Is it ready for my server? Thanks preclear_start_ZDH0RJ24_2017-03-16 preclear_rpt_ZDH0RJ24_2017-03-16 preclear_finish_ZDH0RJ24_2017-03-16
  6. Cool its done....can someone tell me it its ok for me to add it to the array? Thank you. preclear_finish_PK2338P4H3WHAC_2015-12-03.txt preclear_rpt_PK2338P4H3WHAC_2015-12-03.txt preclear_start_PK2338P4H3WHAC_2015-12-03.txt
  7. Alignment has no effect on drives > 2.2TB. Thank you for the fast response. So ok I will not do the 4k and it will start on sector 63. Should I change the default partition format from 4k to unaligned?
  8. I am about to pre-clear my new 4TB HGST for my parity. All of my 2TB drives have been pre-cleared with 4k-aligned. Should I do 4k-aligned with my new 4TB drive? Thank you.
  9. I could not get a HDD to preclear since it kept telling me that it was already part of the array... "sdb" but it was not a totally new drive anyways I don't get why I could not preclear it. It was not part of the array. Anyways I just added to the array with out the script but can you please tell me if this readings look ok? Thank you. 10. Here is a HD that got replaced by WD. Is this one good? Might keep this one as a warm spare will see.... preclear_start__WD-WCAZA3952697_2013-08-03.txt preclear_finish__WD-WCAZA3952697_2013-08-03.txt preclear_rpt__WD-WCAZA3952697_2013-08-03.txt
  11. Perhaps I could help with that? I've started a page, very incomplete yet, but does have comments specific to the Raw Read Error Rate. A comment about the High Fly Writes attribute - ignore the VALUE and WORST for this attribute. I believe it has a dummy routine attached to it, because in all cases I have seen, it behaves like the following: ++RAW[189]; // it's a counter for high fly writes if (VALUE[189] > 1) --VALUE[189]; // decrement for each event (drops it from 100 down to 1), but no lower than 1 if (WORST[189] > VALUE[189]) WORST[189] = VALUE[189]; // the usual statement setting WORST to the lowest value of VALUE RAW appears to be the true counter of High Fly Write events. VALUE then becomes 100 - RAW until RAW exceeds 99, and then VALUE and WORST are stuck at 1, and never can reach THRESH of 0. That's why I believe it is an experimental attribute and this is a dummy routine, and should be ignored. However, the fact that there are High Fly Writes occurring may be of note, should probably be monitored, but we have no guidance anywhere as to their significance. Thank you RobJ
  12. Joe why is it then my 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate is so high from all my other drives? something to worry about? thank you.
  13. Where's the report showing the changes? The high-fly-writes went from 100 to 75 during the pre-clear. Although nowhere near the failure threshold, keep an eye on it in the next few months. Thanx Joe .... I will add it to the array now to replace another failing hd. What is a high-fly? should I be worried? I will keep an eye on it the next few months. Sorry here is the report forgot there where 3 files. preclear_rpt__W1H1P1ZV_2013-07-24.txt

  15. I've also used the Noctua NF-R8 as a replacement fan in the Norco SS-500 (I have the second generation SS-500, the one with the flat back). Works great. I've started using the ARCTIC F8 PWM as a fan replacement for the Norco SS-500 and Norco SS-400 units. Fairly cheap, and it works well. When you use the NR-R8 on the Norco SS-500 does the norco use the PMW on the fan? How you have it hooked up? I have not read all posts but the stock Norco fan is loud? Thank you. Ahhhh great review! http://greenleaf-technology.com/new-norco-ss-500-5-in-3-drive-cage-review/ So would you recommend changing the fan from the start or not? Been wanting to upgrade to a cage it's either the Norco or a iStarUSA BPN-DE350SS But from your review i am leaning towards the Norco. Thanx for the review.
  16. Matrixvibe Very cool... nice holes. I used to have the 300 case and it's a great case for unRAID... wow 10 bucks brand new.... almost free and I guess it's the illusion case with all the fans.
  17. I don't know about your Samsung, but this Seagate 2TB drive looks fine. Device Model: ST2000DL004 HD204UI Serial Number: *********2495 JAJA I know but it is the SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 HD204UI .... It's not nice Seagate bought them.... but hey.... this drive is quick.... seems been doing good. And it's temps are about 3C less then my other WD's and Hitachi... thanx Oh seems the HD204UI is a little more noisy from wake up....
  18. Hi Joe... thought I would give the Samsung a shot.... just finished Pre Clear.... Please let me know if now I can add it to my array.... thank you. SAMSUNG_FINAL.txt
  19. Ok another 300 case. Now I am only running the rear fan and turned off the rest since it don't need them. My temps are 20-24c idle and at full load it goes to 35c..... Is it safe to have the HD's that low at idle?
  20. This is for the EARS.... I am not sure if it will work with EADS 1 Create bootable USB 2 Copy wdidle3.exe to the root directory of the disk 3 Power down server, and replace unraid USB with USB created in #1 4 Disconnect the SATA cables from all the other HDDs in your server except the ones you want to disable the timer on 5 Power up server. Server will boot to MS-DOS prompt. 6 Type WDIDLE3 /R (this will show you the surrent setting which is most likely 8 seconds) 7 Disable the timer by typing WDIDLE3 /S0 (note: the /D command which most guides tell you to use did not disable the timer but instead set it to 5 minutes. I used the WDIDLE3 /S0 command and that disabled the timer) 8 Verify that the timer has been disabled by using WDIDLE3 /R command again 9 Turn off server 10 Reconnect SATA cables to all HDDs 11 Remove USB drive and replace with unraid USB drive http://www.storagereview.com/how_stop_excessive_load_cycles_western_digital_2tb_caviar_green_wd20ears_wdidle3 Thank you wsume99 BTW! I did have to use WDIDLE3 /D and it worked..... WDIDLE3 /S0 did not work for me it still was 8 seconds.... On a second note! it looks also like it works with EADS.... I'll give that a shot later when I transfer the HD over... http://homeservershow.com/forums/index.php?/topic/2015-wdidle3-question/ http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/arno-did-wd-eads-work-out-t4038383.html
  21. Thank you Joe. I will add the parity drive now So there is nothing to be concerned when SDA gave me this message instead of the Preclear was successful message right away? sorry: /dev/sdboota does not exist as a block device clearing will not be performed root@Tower:/boot# B and should I worry about SDB has a lot of load cycles? how easy is this so I can change it in the firmware? ................................................. Now here is another HD I am going to add to the server later on this is in my main pc at the moment. It's an EADS this one. Should I also worry about the load cycle on this one too? or does it need to be turned off? Had this over 2 years. WOW! I been reading about this... even speed fan or hd tune if you have it running in the background it will add 1 to the Load cycle time every minute. Witch I do have hd tune running in the background so I can see the temp of the HD. Now I wonder why I never seen or someone mention that problem about the WD green drives... I would of not bought the EARS.... they always tell me buy the ears HD Tune Pro: WDC WD20EADS-00S2B0 Health ID Current Worst ThresholdData Status (01) Raw Read Error Rate 200 200 51 0 ok (03) Spin Up Time 156 145 21 9200 ok (04) Start/Stop Count 99 99 0 1909 ok (05) Reallocated Sector Count 200 200 140 0 ok (07) Seek Error Rate 100 253 0 0 ok (09) Power On Hours Count 95 95 0 3722 ok (0A) Spin Retry Count 100 100 0 0 ok (0B) Calibration Retry Count 100 100 0 0 ok (0C) Power Cycle Count 100 100 0 818 ok (C0) Unsafe Shutdown Count 200 200 0 121 ok (C1) Load Cycle Count 182 182 0 56643 ok (C2) Temperature 123 99 0 29 ok (C4) Reallocated Event Count 200 200 0 0 ok (C5) Current Pending Sector 200 200 0 0 ok (C6) Offline Uncorrectable 200 200 0 0 ok (C7) Ultra DMA CRC Error Count 200 200 0 0 ok (C8) Write Error Rate 200 200 0 0 ok Health Status : ok
  22. Hi JOE.... Just finished preclearing my 2 harddrives after almost 28 hours. Now there is a message after it was done.... this is for sda sorry: /dev/sdboota does not exist as a block device clearing will not be performed root@Tower:/boot# B I have to mention that before I did a preclear I did add the 2 harddrives to the array and did the sync that took 5 hours. After that I wanted to do the preclear witch I should of done from the first time. (I unmounted them first) So I started from scratch. I reformatted the usb flash drive then started again and did the preclear. For SDB has been succcesfully preacleared (so I added sdb to the array and already transferred about 1.5 TB to it, yet I have not added SDA to the array) *Update So I did this code: you can use the "-t" option. It runs in a few seconds and will let you know if the pre-cleared signature is present. on SDA the one with the problem and it came back to: DISK /dev/sda IS PRECLEARED with a starting sector of 64 Am I good to go? I will wait to add it till you give me the go.... * Also SDA the Hitachi has this little click (or swootch) once in a while at idle (but not spun down).... I don't know if it matters but the WD does not do that (well it does but its way softer). preclear_results.txt reports.zip
