Thanks squid...

I am running 6.3.2 I have an existing cache that I want to change out for an existing pre cleared drive. that drive has data on it from when i had it in my array. I assigned it to the cache drive but do not see any way to format within the GUI... any tips or threads I should read? Chris

So I am not a Unix pro... just dangerous. After trying the new permissions tool I still could not edit some file names so I used the CHGMOD command and I got it to work! Success I could change and edit my file names. All is good right?? Well I just issued a stop for the server and its not liking it. I am getting the error " user share(s)...Retry unmounting user share(s)......Retry unmounting user share(s)...Retry unmounting user share(s) " this is the commad i used chmod +rxw \xxx chmod +rxw \xxxxxxx chmod +rxw \axxxxxow chmod +rxw \xxxxx i changed 58 files. Here is what the permissions looked like the ones green I could edit all the time with no issues... the other i could not. What have I done!

Everything is good to go! Have my cache drive empty! Thanks

thanks squid. i just set to yes and did a move. will see what happens. i guess it acted correct because I set to prefer and it send a bunch of file to the cache drive!

still don't understand why my cache drive is filling up even more....im not sending any files to my server. i was just using the mover. its almost full now... why is this ? it looks like all of my files in my folder music are moving to the cache drive? Huh. I must not understand the cache drive. i thought when I transferred files to my server they went to the cache drive first then the data. drive. why are they moving from the data drive back to the cache drive??

I was having some issues using the Mover. It did not seem like it would do anything. I just did the upgrade from 6.1 to 6.3.2 and it seems like now it is doing something since the status says that the mover is in progress. However it seems like now the cache drive is increasing in the size and the free space is decreasing. should it not be the other way around?

Here is my diag file... I am currenlty slowly upgrading my Drives to 4TB. I have a additional 4TB clearing right now. I would like to do some other upgrades as well such as a SSD for my cache drive. I tried using the mover but it seems like it does not do anything. the cache drive still has files on it. tower-diagnostics-20170318-0906.zip

i have only ever moved my files from my pc to the unraid folders using the file explorer. i have no idea what cp/sonarr is i tried the docker safe new permissions tool. it did not fix issue

the ones i am trying to edit right now are in the media folder and that has a Movies and Tv show directories i only have one user and that is Root

Can anyone give me some help on trying to renaming some of my file names. I try to change them and it says I don't have permission. Most files I have no problem with. I have basically always had this server configured in one manner. Meaning I am not doing anything too advanced with it. I tried doing that New Permissions tool as I read that should fix the issue but I still find I cannot changed the files names. I did upgrade from 5 to 6.1.3 some time back. Chris

I just wanted to report back that I appreciate everyone's help. So I replaced my 2TB drive with a 2TB drive. All is good now. the server is stable. However I found out why the 4TB would not be acknowledged. Turns out first the power connector I was trying to use was not installed properly ( my fault) I was using one for a fan and was missing a pin on the adapter Duh. Next the Sata cable I was using was Bad!! So I am getting everything fixed up to upgrade my system. I am pre-clearing the 4TB now! thanks everyone

thanks yes i got it lower case! I ordered a 2tb drive so I want to get this stable and back up. Then I will need to figure out the whole Hardware upgrade procedure.... ugh! I love this stuff but life is crazy right now. Work, kid, wife and taking a college class as a 40 YO!

I will get a 2TB drive to replace the bad 1.5 TB drive and then go from there... what do you all think?

So I do not see it I did a couple of those SDX up to k and it does not show up.

should I buy a couple 2TB drives to stabilize my system before upgrading? I do not want to lose my data!

Okay lets call that drive dead... When I found it "unplugged" (wtf?) i have no idea how It was unplugged ... i did reconnect the power. the server wont even turn on...so I take the power back off and I did hear a pop and a bad smell. Sometimes I think I am losing my mind and my house is haunted. After I remove the power from the bad HDD and turn server back on it is up and running with the bad missing drive. So I need to replace the drive. I have 2 x 4 TB drives that are new. The bad drive is 1.5tb. What steps should I take to fix? I know I need to replace my parity drive with the 4TB drive but I am a little cautious now since one of my data drives is dead.

Okay, I rebooted and started array. My disk is still failed. I started array and ran a Diag ... any thoughts? tower-diagnostics-20170104-2216.zip
