  1. Can anyone recommend a good motherboard that I could use the cpu and ram I already have. The cpu is intel xeon 1265l v2 and Ram DDR3 ECC It would need to be capable of supporting at least one gfx card and have spare slots for expanding the sata ports or adding extras. Also be known to be able to passthrough the gfx card and other pci cards to a windows vm I'd like to reuse these items I have to keep costs down but seam to be having difficultly finding a suitable mboard. Thanks
  2. I was editing the syslinux config file from inside unraid, Main/Flash then editing the text is this not the best way? should I be removing the usb with unraid on it and editing it on another pc? I followed the steps but the gfx card ends up in a IOMMU group with something else I will have to try sort the new problem of unraid not booting first then get back to looking at the RMRR issue you mention I have updated the BIOS but this did not help the passthrough problem This link from the thread seams to be dead https://docs.hpcloud.com/hos-4.x/helion/networking/enabling_pcipt_on_gen9.html Thank you for your help I will try again another day but fear this may be beyond me
  3. Thanks John I have now found the links thanks Unfortunately after following the suggestions and several restarts I have been unable to passthrough the GFX card and now unraid will not load past the unraid boot options page loading /bzimage flashes up then restarts the 5 sec count down and continues this loop It will boot if I have a keyboard pluged in and select "unraid OS GUI mode" Is there any way to change it back? I have checked and the syslinux file I was editing look as it was before I changed anything
  4. Yes also passing through the audio Where's the signature? if I click on you'r name I get your profile, I have seen various threads and was still unsure how to proceed because the syslinux file I have did not match the one people were editing and I was wondering if i just go ahead and add the text "vfio_iommu_type1.allow_unsafe_interrupts=1" after append like below? default menu.c32menu title Lime Technology, Inc.prompt 0timeout 50label unRAID OS menu default kernel /bzimage append vfio_iommu_type1.allow_unsafe_interrupts=1 pcie_acs_override=downstream initrd=/bzrootlabel unRAID OS GUI Mode kernel /bzimage append pcie_acs_override=downstream initrd=/bzroot,/bzroot-guilabel unRAID OS Safe Mode (no plugins, no GUI) kernel /bzimage append pcie_acs_override=downstream initrd=/bzroot unraidsafemodelabel unRAID OS GUI Safe Mode (no plugins) kernel /bzimage append pcie_acs_override=downstream initrd=/bzroot,/bzroot-gui unraidsafemodelabel Memtest86+ kernel /memtest
  5. Sorry if this has been covered I have searched and am still unsure as to whether this can work on the Gen 8 It has a 1256l v2 CPU and I would like to passthrough an nvidia 120 GPU to a windows 10 or 7 VM on Unraid but get this error Execution error internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor: 2018-08-26T19:44:31.015252Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=07:00.0,id=hostdev0,x-vga=on,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5: vfio error: 0000:07:00.0: failed to setup container for group 11: failed to set iommu for container: Operation not permitted PCI Devices and IOMMU Groups Warning: Your system has booted with the PCIe ACS Override setting enabled. 6. I gave up in the end Do you have the same problem?
  7. My config file dosen't look exactly the same and when i edit it and change virtio to sata it says unsupported config thanks for everybody who tried to help I'll just have to switch/wait for the 6.2 release
  8. Thanks for the reply My text doesn't match yours,Vdisk2 was already "hdc" but bus was "virtio" i have changed to sata but error on start
  9. You have to change the bus from virtio to sata in the gui or it wont work. EDIT: If you cant connect to your server: Step 1. Download the Synology Assistant (https://www.synology.com/en-us/support/download/VirtualDSM) Step 2. Let the Assistant search for your server (if it cant find your server wait a few seconds and try again) If the assistant still cant find your server: Edit the xml file and change the network adapter model to "e1000" If the assistant finds your server but the ip starts with "169.x.x.x" restart the server (i had to do it ~5-10 times until the server got a "real" ip adress) Remember to set a static ip after setting up the server I can do the "e1000" thats fine but I dont have the same options in advanced ? Please see attached jpeg Just RAW or qcow2 for primary vdisk type
  10. I have got another disk added when setting up the VM but is still doesn't work and if i try to change the file its gives an error Think i'll just have to give up <devices> <emulator>/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64</emulator> <disk type='file' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw' cache='writeback'/> <source file='/mnt/cache/Docker/Xpenology/Xpenology/vdisk1.img'/> <target dev='hdb' bus='virtio'/> <boot order='1'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x02' slot='0x04' function='0x0'/> </disk> <disk type='file' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw' cache='writeback'/> <source file='/mnt/cache/Docker/Xpenology/Vdisk2/Xpenology/vdisk2.img'/> <target dev='hdc' bus='virtio'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x02' slot='0x05' function='0x0'/> </disk> <disk type='file' device='cdrom'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/> <source file='/mnt/user/Store/ISOs/XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5644.5.iso'/> <target dev='hda' bus='sata'/> <readonly/> <boot order='2'/> <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' target='0' unit='0'/> </disk>
  11. Hi Thanks for the reply I have little to no idea of what I need to edit to get this to work I have got the assistant to pick up the installation but it doesn't see any drive, I was looking as previous posts and most have misunderstood what needed changed in the text. I didn't have any space left to add any unassigned drives to unraid or is it an unassigned virtual drive in the synology setup? I know this is adding a nas on top of another nas but i like the download manager and prefer unraid overall so thought i could get the best of both worlds.
  12. 13. Please can you tell what line in the xml file to change
  14. Do you have to have one of the unraid drives unassigned? every time try to install Synology the web assistant says no hard drive found on DS3615. Did you have this issue?
  15. Hi Could someone please tell me how update the mineOS server to the latest version I have tried the update button in profiles but this does not work Thanks
  16. I have an hp gen8 but would like to upgrade to somthing similar Do you know how many watts it uses at idle?
  17. I have docker/minecraft on the cache/SSD drive I access the folders via SMB network/unraid/cache/docker/minecraft/mcmyadmin I car write to the mcmyadmin folder but none of the folders inside the mcmyadmin folder cache share is set to public and host path read/write The reason I want to write to one of these folders is to migrate the minecraft server from my pc to unraid I have already moved the files from an online host to the windows 7 pc running mcmyminecraft but now i'd like to have the server on my unraid machine but i'm unable to copy the worlds to the correct folder on unraid inside mcmyadmin "you need permission to perform this action" I tried mineOS as well and was unable to write to the import folder on that one too Just need to know where i'm going wrong with the file permissions
  18. I have installed mineos and mcmyadmin on docker but I'm unable to write to the minecraft or import folders to add saves I already have from a windows 7 pc running mcmyadmin How do I change the permissions on that folders please.
  19. I'm actually quite curious to know the reason why you're wanting to install a NAS Appliance OS on top of another NAS Appliance OS.. ? I didn't think it would be as much trouble as its been and the reason was the download manager can download put.io links and I was going to share some space on my NAS with a friend outside my network and this seamed to be the easier solution for someone like myself thats new to unraid. I tried Jdownloader but I couldn't get it to reliably download the links If you can offer a suggestion to a docker app that can do something similar I would be great-full Looks like i'll have to forget about this idea anyway as now I've got connected to the webgui it cant see the virtual space I've given and tells me "no hard drives installed" Back to the drawing board Thank you Jonp for your help
  20. Thank you very much for checking that The problem now is the assistant finds the ip address but its unable to open the webgui is there any way to edit the xml to manually give it an ip address as the one it gets at the moment is 169.254.30.250 All my ip addresses start 192.168.0.? and i wonder if that why it can't open the webgui to continue the install? *Update* Have retried it a heap of time and it has now gotten a 192.168.0.31 address so hopefully I can continue the install I will let you know how it goes
  21. http://xpenology.me/downloads/ I used the xpenoboot 5.2 iso then the synology assistant to search for it to install the synology software Sorry I am on my phone and can reply with better links when I get home
  22. Thank you for taking the time to look into me problem Network bridge is set to br0 It installs fine and can be seen using vnc as it boots up to a command type prompt but after that I need to use the synology assistant (from another machine) to search for it to then finish the software/os install It would seam to be a ip problem but I don't know enough about it. Everything else (other operating systems) I've tried as a vm works fine. I have installed this on other machines and virtualbox on Windows 7 without this problem I chose unraid over the synology setup but I really like the download manager and a few other aspects of it and would really like to run it as a vm on unraid but I can't get past this problem.
  23. I have been trying for a while to get xpenology to run as a VM on UNRAID and can never get Synology Assistant to find its IP address I have other OS's running as a VM with no ip problems and can install Xpenology as a VM on Vitrualbox on another machine with no problems but not on UNRAID Any help much appreciated
