I went back and looked at cloudflare again, and while I'm pretty sure that a few months ago when I was trying it it wouldn't let me use *.mydomain.com to make a DNS A record, now it does. They say that using a wildcard DNS like this will make the wildcard subdomains not be protected by the cloudflare network (unless you pay for the enterprise version), but it will still point to your server as intended.

So I set it up for my domain, made the wildcard subdomain in cloudflare, and then set the letsencrypt docker to make a wildcard cert, and it all works! Now I can go to any random subdomain random.mydomain.com and it points to mydomain.com if nothing is specified in letsencrypt config/nginx/site-confs/default. Or if I specify something in that file random.mydomain.com can point to a particular port on my server like ghost or plex.

I'm so excited to see it all working! Thanks for the tip on cloudflare.

Mind giving a step by step for us Noobs that have a slight idea on how you got this to work?

  2. Happens to me as well.  It is doing a lot of backend work right now though. I'm curious if that will change once everything is imported and corrected.  I do have a question about not finding artist.  I can't seem to find Jay-Z or J Cole of all people.  Any advice on what I could do to import them?  Thanks!

Yeah 192.168.1.X is extremely common as the default on consumer routers and you are going to run into routing problems like that especially when trying to VPN from other locations (where others haven't bothered to change the defaults either). Also, since it is so common, it would probably be the first thing someone would try when trying to hack through a NAT. I always make sure to pick some other random uncommon subnet to use when first setting up my local network, and would recommend doing the same to avoid stuff like this and also to make it ever so slightly harder for someone to get into your network.

Thank you!  I think I will be changing my subnet to a super random number.  :)

Can you see you're shares / programs / whatnot by referencing their IP address directly?  I never had name lookup work properly when connected to the VPN, and figured that its just one of those things and did things the way that I know that it works.

Yes, I can.  But only when on the network that gives me that access.  What seems to be happening is that the home network is 192.168.1.0/24 and I'm trying to access from another 192.168.1.0/24 if I get a 172.27.224/20 address, and try to ping 192.168.1.100 it'll likely fail.  So that's why some networks work and others don't.  Now to figure out how to fix it.  I would still love to play a game through steam though. =/

  5. So I can now sometimes log into my server and sometimes not.  It seems that it matters where I am connected at.  At work I can log into my server and ping it.  At my parents I don't have access to anything but I do have a changed IP address.  On my phone its the same as work.  I still can't see what's on the network no matter what.  Is this a router issue?  Is the Google Fiber router screwing me some how??

  6. After weeks of trying to figure this out.  I come to you for help.  I have a weird issue that I can't seem to figure out.  I can log into OpenVPN remotely but have access to nothing inside the network.  Also when I turn on OpenVPN my dockers lose their images as if they have no external access to the net.   (Don't think they do actually.  No plex access for example.)  These are my settings below.

    Let's start with settings.

    Docker Setting - https://snag.gy/4yjMoX.jpg

    OpenVPN Edit - https://snag.gy/7zQJI2.jpg

    Inside container settings

    I have 9443 forwarded.

Any ideas?!  I'm at a loss.

hasn't been updated in 2 months... looks like development is dead.

Both Move When Completed and Music Download Directory are set to /downloads/Music

This was after a few tries experimenting and it works as I expect -- files end up where they are supposed to be.

I don't believe it is a paths issue since clicking on Force Post-Process Albums in Download Folder works. The problem seems to be that whatever is supposed to trigger that process automatically never fires.

I've been having the same issue.  I still can't figure it out! :(
