    No, you can turn off security as much as you want, some devices needs to be authorized at least on Kernel level.

    Ah might explain why my egpu shows but the Dock doesnt. Im ready to ditch unraid for ubuntu so I can use my thunderbolt devices. I tested it and plug n play works fine.

    The main problem with Thunderbolt that it has different security levels and when a device is not autorized then Unraid can't detect it because it's not autorized.

    Unraid is capable of Thunderbolt and can query the security level, is also capable of autorizing the device and seeing it on the Kernel level since it's implemented but a userspace tool is missing to authorize the device so that you or better speaking Unraid can detect and see it.

    I turned off thunderbolt security in the bios and unraid still doesn't see it. Is there anything I can try or see in the logs to troubleshoot?

  3. For anyone considering using a TB3 dock, read this.

    I bought the Segate Firecuda Gaming dock and whilst it works perfectly well in Windows, UNRAID does not detect it when it's plugged in to the Thunderbolt 3 port.

    OK, so today I tested my Seagte firecuda Thunderbolt 3 gaming dock and when plugged in to the TB3 port UNRAID does not detect it.

    I also tested it using a standard USB C cable (USB 3.1 mode) and UNRAID did detect it so UNRAID has a definite issue with Thunderbolt.

    How about a thunderbolt dock like the CalDigit TS3? I wouldn't ever be unplugging the thunderbolt cable. Just plugging and unplugging stuff into the dock (usb, headphones, sd card, etc.)

    I bought the seagate gamers tb3 dock to do exactly that although havent had a chance to test it yet, I hope it works as intended.

  6. The issue is not whether TB devices can be seen or passed through, the problem with most TB3 onboard or cards is that UNRAID does not handle removable egpu correctly. Example, you need to make sure the egpu is connected before starting unraid, if disconnected when UNRAID running, the host needs to be rebooted.

  7. Hi

    Please can we have proper Thunderbolt implementation/support? Most of the time it isnt plug and play and having to reboot the host so that we can use an egpu is a joke.

    Promox does not have this issue so why are we having to wait so long for UNRAID to have TB3 support? New boards are slowly adopting TB3 and up coming TB4 controllers, it's about time we started to take this seriously.

    Hi Cuacococo,

    try this

    image.png.674491992a60aa3db74cfdb2b75f0af2.png

    Select

    Hypervisor: QEMU/KVM

    Check: Connect to remote host over SSH

    Username: root

    Hostname: <IP of you Unraid Server>

    Check: Autoconnect

    image.png.30737f12b8860c4be2f93ee33c06edae.png

    Then you may need to accept the certificate (type yes) and enter the password of your Unraid account.

    Now you should see all VMs defined in your Unraid including Macinabox (if successful installed).

    Hope this will help you.

    I get the same issue. Im typing the username root and IP correctly.

  9. Hi

    Interested to get everyones feedback on the latest bleeding edge boards (z490/x570) that the community are using in their UNRAID system and have FULL system temperature displayed. I'll start with my Z490 Asrock ITX TB3 board and Intel 10850K CPU. Unfortunately, only nvme and CPU temperatures are being shown.

    UNRAID vers: 6.9b35

    Systemp plugin vers: 2020.06.20

    Installed nvme m.2 drive in bottom slot (group 21), LSI card in bottom x16 (group 25) and video in x1 slot (group 23).

    Moved drives over to new mobo and all came up without any effort with 6.8.3.

    Tempted to get that board myself. Do you have cpu/motherboard temps working?

    You can try this also:

       <video>
         <model type='vmware'/>
       </video>

    Just experimenting with 2d acceleration and the vmware svga kext from darwin.iso. Doesnt look like UNRAID likes it.

    It tells you to create a custom arg in the xml of your vm (look at the bottom of the xml), it should be:

    <qemu:commandline>
      <qemu:arg value='-vga'/>
      <qemu:arg value='vmware'/>
    </qemu:commandline>

    Tried that but get an error when starting the VM

  13. Hi

    Weird one and not sure how to troubleshoot. I have a Windows 10 VM and a Catalina/Mojave/High Sierra VM all working fine without GPU passthrough.

    What's strange is that as soon as I pass through my nvidia 1650 to the OSX VMs the entire UNRAID crashes/freezes when the apple logo appears on boot.

    The Windows 10 VM does not crash and the nvidia gfx card is detected fine. Why are the OSX VMs causing a kernel panic and not the windows vm?

    Also, when the crash happens, I have to re-enable VM in the UNRAID settings after reboot, not sure why this setting is being disabled after the crash? Maybe to protect the libvirt img?

    XML for the OSX and Windows VM attached.
