Hi
I have just replaced my AMD 2950X for an i5 13600k and everything seemed to go swimmingly except I have just discovered I cannot access my shares from any device.
There is only 1 NIC (Mellanox 10gbe) that I transferred to the new board and the onboard NICS are disabled.
WEBUI is working fine as is access to all dockers but I cannot access any shares.
Â
Any starting points?

Check BIOS setting and the CPU freq does clock down during light-load idle.
I did look in the BIOS but did not see anything like that apart from undervolting, I will check again tomorrow

I3 or I5 or I9 processor? As the 13600K is available in all three lines. (I could also ask if you are overclocking this processor as that has an impact of power consumption...)
Sorry, I did not know that, it is an i5

Hi,Â
I just changed out my hardware from an AMD 2950X Threadripper on a Gigabyte Designaire X399 Mobo for an Intel 13600K on an Asrock Z790 Pro RS/D4 to find it is consuming more energy than before?Â
Am I missing something? everything I read said the Intel would be more effecient to run than the AMDÂ
13600K 39W Idle
2950X 90W IdleÂ
Â
Installed in the system...
1 X HBA Card with Expander
1 X Mellanox 10gbe Card
24 X Mechanical Hard Drives
3 X NVME
1 X NVidea GPU (Now Removed For 13600K)
1 X 4 Port NICÂ (Now Removed For 13600K)
Â
With the 2950X I was using approx 150W idle with 3-4 hard drives spun up and 190-225 when being put to task.
With the 13600K I am using approc 250W idle with 3-4 hard drives spun up and 420-450 when being put to task
Â
Quite the difference!! even though I have removed 2 cards as well I am consuming more power, have I missed something? I wanted to do the change for 2 reasons, Power Consumption & Quicksync but using more power makes no sense
Â
Can anyone else with a 13600K share their experience? I am using a Tasmota Smart Socket to measure the power consumption.
Â
Many thanks!

Multiple containers plus the built in GUI can theoretically share / split access to a video chip. VM passthrough keeps the GPU tied up exclusively. Don't know if that answers your question.
Thank you for your reply!
If I read that correctly I will be fine as I am not passing through the iGPU to a VM so it should be available for the unraid GUI, Plex & Tdarr Docker 🙂
-
I know my 13600K has an IGPU which is what I want for Plex and Tdarr but will I need an additional card?
Â
I want to use HW Transcoding in Plex but if I do this will I be able to use the iGPU in Tdarr (Docker) as well?
Â
Will I also need another card to run unraid?
Â
Sorry for the questions!

Hi! Thanks for your reply 🙂
Â
I mentioned four processors in my post, which one do you mean that you have?
-
I currently have a 2950X Threadripper which I would like to change due to power consumption.
Â
To be honest my server does not need masses of power so maybe both the 13600K and 12600K will be overkill (again)
Â
1, As unraid needs a GPU would I need an additional card to utilize HW transcoding on the 770 iGPU on the CPU? I have at most 5-6 streams (1 or 2 might be transcoding)Â
Â
2, idle power is king, should I be looking at an alternative CPU? I have 25 Dockers & 1 Windows VM for Blue Iris.
Â
3, I have a Taichi X470 and a 3600X sat doing nothing but would need a discrete GPU for HW Transcoding, would pairing this with a Quadro make more sense?
Â
Any advice gratefully received!Â
Â
Thank you 🙂

Thank you! worked for me too!

Hi,
My Nextcloud has been running for years and today I noticed this error
Â
This version of Nextcloud is not compatible with > PHP 7.4
Â
I restarted the container and now I am presented with the install screen! I have not done anything else as terrified I will lose everything (if I haven't already) can anyone please help?
Â

Perfect! All done, thank you 🙂

Hi,Â
Â
After some searching the posts I can find for removing a cache pool are for different reasons and/or from 2016/17Â
Â
I currently have 2 X NVME drives mirrored and would like to remove one of them, can anyone please point me in the directions of the latest method please?
-
Yes, I understand.... definitely not clear cut but very hard to make any decisions without having another system to compare to.
Â
I would imagine that the 12400 in a direct comparison to my 2950X is going to be considerably more ecomical but by how much is (to me) impossible to guage.
Â
I have now stopped using tdarr as I encoded everything to HEVC but no more lol!
Â
I do have a 3600X server which I decommissioned to save power (it was just a backup server sat there running tdarr encodes)
Â
It may make sense to make the 3600X my main and only server as I already have it and will be considerably cheaper to run than the 2950X
Â
I did discover the Precision Boost Overdrive setting on my X399 Board but looks like I can only overclock? I need to research this some more as if I can underclock that may be the easiest/most cost effective way to reduce power.

Gigabyte Designare X399
Threadripper 2950X
64GB RAM
Unicaca 3800 PCI SAS Card
Mellanox MCX311A-XCAT CX311A ConnectX-3 1-gbe card
2 X Rocket NVME
1 X Samsung 960 NVME
5 Hard Drives Spinning (Out of 24)
As I Type the CPU usage is fluctuating between 5%-20% and the Wattage is fluctuating between 188W - 275W so but changing to an intel 12400/12700 I could save around 60-100W it is tempting!
Â
Â

I have 24 Spinners & 3 NVME drives will spin my drives down later to see the difference, 92W is nice!Â

This is what I am getting at the moment on an idle server...

I currently have a 2950X I am using in an unraid server and run 3-4 VM's and 20 or so dockers and Plex.
My price per kw/h is going up to 0.35p on Monday and as AMD & Intel measure their TDP differently I am struggling to see if it would be econmical to change?
Can anyone offer any advice please?

I am looking to build a replacement setup for my 2950x Threadripper due to power costs
The  i9 12900 is 65w compared to my current 180w plus the IGPU (Intel 770) from what I read would be great for Plex but would I need another GPU to be able to use it on unraid? as in I would not be able to pass it through to Plex without another GPU being available?
Â
I currently use HW encdoding for Plex so I am thinking the saving on the CPU wattage plus being able to use the IGPU for Plex should make quite a difference?
Â
Any rights or wrongs here? Thank you!

It just came back for me, no idea why, sorry!

ok, quite the coincidence that I started using sleep/hibernate on my Desktop a week or so ago so I will close browsers and monitor, thank you
-
Oh wow! I see! I have just started using sleep/hibernate on my main desktop which indeed has web browsers open to my unraid servers I would never have thought that would have caused an issue or even been related at all! Â
Â
Is the "solution" to close the browsers? there is nothing I can change on my server side as I will struggle to remember to do this and/or not be in front of my Desktop when it decides to sleep every time.
Â
Many thanks!!
-
OK, found quite a lot of people with this issue on unraid, doesn't appear to be related to plex ram transcoding, looks to be an unraid bug/problem
Â
-
ah really? I have 64GB thought that would be enough!
Replaced Motherboard/CPU but now cannot access shares from any PC?

Done, thank you 🙂 But why new post?
