And it should be possible to add an extra DNS server to your config. If that STILL does work... please check your firewall rules..... Via rules I manage to block traffic to the gateway, that is an efficient way to make you lost some hair.

it working now... 4 hours later i tried again and this time the login works... so it seems that 30mins of patience wasn't enough.

I ran in to the same issue, no "known password" will work for root. When i use SSH, the root password works just fine, just not for the web login for some unknown reason. I do not have any special characters in the password, just letters and numbers. I use IP address to login in with. Do i need to delete the 3 files to get back in? config/passwd config/shadow config/smbpasswd
