Hard Shutdown Following End Of Parity Check and Other Times
Thanks for the suggestion. I replaced the PSU with another Seasonic unit and everything has been running smoothly. A tip of the hat to Seasonic as they turned around the RMA within a couple of days.

Hard Shutdown Following End Of Parity Check and Other Times
My system keeps shutting down (not cleanly) at certain times. It has happened twice at the end of a Parity Check, and it seems to also happen during some other regular updates or checks. Trouble shooting to date: Updated bios Updated to 6.12.1 Checked all cables and reapplied thermal paste and confirmed cpu fans are operational 24 hour memtest with no issues No issues while watching movies Moved to a different USB stick and ensured it is now plugged into a USB 2.0 port When doing this, I noticed that the amount of data on the drive has certainly grown over the years, but there is still well over 2GB of free space syslog.txt Latest syslog server is attached. Would appreciate any thoughts on what else I can do.

I wanted to post updated results of Seagate 6TB Preclear using Preclear 1.15 for reference (I think drive looks good). Seagate_6TB.txt

SMART report looks fine. It's hard to say what the times should be for a 6tb drive, until other reports come in. Doesn't look wildly wrong though. You used Preclear 1.9, which is very old, probably too old for very large drives. I'm not sure you can trust the result on drives over 2TB using any Preclear less than 1.13, and perhaps Preclear 1.15 (the latest). You should definitely upgrade Preclear, and you may want to try it again. At least, try a Preclear -t test on it, with the latest Preclear. Thanks

Question on preclearing a Seagate 6TB drive. The pre read time and post read time, and thus the cycle total time seem high to me. In addition, the read rate versus the zeroing rate seems out of whack when compared with smaller drives I have done. Anything to be concerned about here (results attached)? Seagate_6TB.txt

The 5X3 Cage review - Norco, SuperMicro, iStarUSA and Icy Dock
I think you mean high CFM vs. low dB or sone....RPM makes no difference at all. Thanks for the advice. I bought two cages, and both are fairly loud, so I don't think it is a bad fan. I'll report back if I successfully make the replacement. Tom

The 5X3 Cage review - Norco, SuperMicro, iStarUSA and Icy Dock
Any advice for quieting the Norco? Would a fan speed controller be a good option? Or, is it easy enough to replace the fan with an aftermarket fan? If the fan option is best, any recommendations? Tom
