  1. I already asked in the General Support area for unRAID 6 (which might have been the wrong spot):

I have recently upgraded to 6.1.3, my old unMENU is still there although not noticing that the array is only. I haven't made any symbolic links yet as it seems that I don't need unMENU anymore (mainly used it for screen, monthly parity checks and mail notification). Can the current installation hurt my upgraded unRAID? How do I remove unMENU?

    Thanks

I"m not the expert..  but my guess it the install won't hurt anything.  To not have it run, remove it from the go file.

  2. Yes, that's it. They both update/refresh often and I would think that over a 28 hour period that sooner or later they will match fairly close.

Maybe the web keeps a running average where the script window is an instantaneous??

  3. ok...  now some dumb questions..  did you refresh the browser?  Did you try to reboot the system?

The script name looks right if in fact it really is in the correct directory like you say it is... I would just double check that.  after that, I'm out of ideas..

  4. I installed the plug in and almost done with my first preclear..

So far it works great except for a discrepancy in the MB/s between the web GUI and the Preclear log window.

The web GUI shows 74 MB/s and the Preclear Log shows 123 MB/s.

This difference has been consistent no matter what the speed is.

You mean the e-mailed reports and such?  the e-mailed reports will calculate based on time elapsed and bytes done. the gui uses the instantaneous value, iirc...
  5. I'm sure the answer is buried somewhere here in this thread....  but should I bother to change all my drives to XFS?

I just finished replacing a 2TB with a spare (it was showing signs of becoming weak) so that became XFS and I consolidated 2 1.5TB drives to a new 4TB drive which also is xfs now.  I have one more 4TB (spare for now) drive that I can used to convert the rest of my array to xfs...

Is there a compelling reason to do so? What do I gain other than getting rid of any fragmented files?

  6. thats the case anyway...  if you use the array while the parity check is going on.

Any new stuff will just be checked next time if it's past where the check already was

Actually once an area is checked, it's checked => if you write new data to the array that impacts an area that's already been checked, it does NOT get re-checked in that section .. it just won't be checked until the next parity check.

    That's what I said! :-)
  7. This seems like it would be super simple to implement...

Just a pause bottom with the parity checks.

There are times when the array is just so unresponsive that it's almost unusable during parity checks.

I'd love to be able to pause the parity check so I can do what I need to do with the array and just have it continue when I'm done..

This goes along the lines of the incremental parity checks

    And auto throttled parity checks

I like the thought of a "low priority button as well"  But a pause should be easy to implement.

  8. There was indeed a lot of discussion about limiting the attached devices ... and as Rob noted, the way it ended up is with the 3 (trial), 6 (Basic), and 12 (Plus) device limits.    Limetech did eliminate the 25 device limit for Pro ... so folks with maxed out systems who have a few spare ports for other uses (e.g. pre-clears and/or occasional attached drives that are "outside" of the array) won't encounter any limits.

It can be an occasional nuisance, but it's easily avoided by just upgrading to a Pro key  :)

Well it is was it is now..  I have a pro license so I wouldn't have noticed.  But it's probably good to know. I used to have a spare machine I used for pre-clears. but now I just do them on the array (it has enough HP now)  Looks like others with less of a license will have to use a second machine if they are maxed out on devices.

  9. Question: If you are maxed out on drives (according to your unraid license) but you have SATA Ports available, can you still preclear a drive to test/check it? I guess I am asking if preclear is considered to be doing something to a volume outside the array?

Depends.    If you're running v5, there's no limit on how many physical devices can be attached to the system.  If you're running v6, the license limits the number of physical devices you can have in the system UNLESS you have a Pro license.

Really??  what does it do?  disable them?

    How can it?
