  1. ok, if this is the case, do I trust the unRAID web-interface which has a blinking green status (spun-down) for the 3TB drive versus the drive cage LED (solid green)? I'll search for reports of inaccurate drive cage disk status LEDs, specifically for the Super Micro CSE-M35T-1B. I had a solid red light problem with my Seagate 3TB and my "Icy Dock 5 in 3". Upgrading the firmware of the drive fixed the problem. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=21061.msg187057#msg187057 Drew
  2. I purchased a new Seagate 3TB External Expansion Model STAY3000102 drive intending on removing the drive from the USB 3.0 enclosure and inserting it into my Icy Dock 5 in 3 Model MB455SPF-B located in my unRAID server. The external model is $30 cheaper with the same warranty than the internal model and I got a free USB 3.0 cable. After removing the drive, it was model ST3000DM001 part # 9YN166-570 firmware CC9D made in Thailand. After inserting it in the Icy Dock, the LED under my drive on my Icy Dock was RED meaning the drive was bad per Icy Dock. It glows RED before and after the O/S boots up. I have three of the same model Icy Docks and it was RED on all three after trying each one. There is no problem with the drive as I can read/write to it. I went to Seagate's web page and found a firmware update for the new Barracuda 1TB/platter drives located at: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/223651en The problem is this firmware only updates drives currently with firmware CC46, CC47, CC49, CC4C, or CC4G. Mine was CC9D and the firmware would not update. I went back to Seagate's web page and found "Download Finder", a page where you can type in your Model/Serial #: https://apps1.seagate.com/downloads/request.html?userPreferredLocaleCookie=en_US_ I tried both the Model ST3000DM001/ Serial # Z1Fxxxxx located on the internal drives sticker and also the model and serial # on the Seagate Expansion box, Model STAY3000102 / Serial # 2GHxxxxx. They both said I had the most recent firmware CC9D, which causes the red light on my Icy Dock. New plan. I bought a new internal drive model ST3000DM001 part # 9YN166-302 firmware CC4C. It's sticker said it was made in China. The last 3 digits of the part # are different on the internal vs. external and the last 2 characters of the firmware are also different. The internal drive was from China and the external drive was from Thailand. I installed the new internal drive in my Icy Dock and I still had the RED LED of death! My last chance was to upgrade the firmware from CC4C to CC4H. It upgraded successfully and told me to power cycle the computer. The light was green! Until and if Seagate releases a firmware upgrade newer than CC9D for the CC9x series, you probably will have a RED light on your Icy Dock. Drew

  4. Thanks for fixing the LSI issue. I noticed on the home page of http://tower there is a word spelled wrong at the end of the first sentence. Welcome to unRAID OS version 5.0-rc3. Be sure to read the Release Notes for specific upgrade insructions!
  5. I'm running beta14 on a LSI 9690SA with 5 drives. It's not dev/test because I wasn't aware of any issues with LSI controllers until I started reading this thread. All of my drives are configured to spin down, and I've never seen a single error on any of them. I realize this isn't what most people are reporting. I'm not sure what the difference could be. Anyway, there you go: someone who's successfully run beta14 on an LSI controller -A I think the reason your 9690SA card is working is because it is a 3ware card. LSI bought 3ware back in 2009 but still sells 3ware cards. I am using an LSI SAS 9211-8i which uses the LSI SAS2008 chipset and I am also stuck on 5.0 beta 12a because of the LSI problem. Drew
  6. Has anyone connected a 3 TB SATA drive to a LSI 9211-8i and seen all 3 TB using unRAID 5? This LSI kb article says it will not work. The kb says it was last updated 7/25/11. I have this controller in IT mode with the latest f/w and bios using unRAID 5 beta 10. I hope this article is wrong. I currently have all Seagate Green 2 TB drives. http://kb.lsi.com/KnowledgebaseArticle16399.aspx It says: 6Gb/s SATA+SAS HBAs will not detect drives with greater than 2 TB in capacity (in other words, the 6Gb/s SATA+SAS HBAs won't work with 3 TB disk drives). LSI SAS 9201-16e, 16 ext ports LSI SAS 9200-8e, 8 ext ports LSI SAS 9212-4i4e, 4 int + 4 ext ports LSI SAS 9201-16i, 16 int ports LSI SAS 9211-8i, 8 int ports LSI SAS 9211-4i, 8 int ports It also discusses 3Gb/s controllers. 7. I am a fairly new unRAID user and installed unRAID 5 beta 6 around June of this year. I am now on unRAID 5 beta 10. If I try to run mc (Midnight Commander), the mouse does not work. I tried a PS/2 M$ mouse and a USB Logitech/Dell mouse, rebooted after installing each, and neither work. I have never been able to get the mouse to work on the unRAID server. If I remove my unRAID drives and install a Windows disk, the mouse works fine. I do not know any other way to try the mouse from the unRAID server. It is not a big deal as I generally use Putty and run MC from my Windows 7 PC. I attached my syslog. Drew syslog-2011-08-03.txt
