  1. Oh wow didn't know that will have to dig deeper the performance should be much higher not sure whats going on then the cable was new out of the box will check the connectors maybe there is some issue there
  2. So I just installed speed test last night and its apparent that my box is using the pre installed wifi over my ethernet connection I'm only getting 8 down and 10 up, I am paying for gigabit service through Verizon any idea where I would correct this? The bios maybe? Router?
  3. Want to take a moment to thank you for the assistance got home ran the script and everything is back up and running fine, Thanks again!
  4. Sorry don't take it the wrong way I did read the link you sent me using the command prompt is one of my weak points I tried it on my mac but couldn't make a go of it will try on my pc after work thanks for the assist!
  5. Ah don't know how to do that yet, question I don't remember what file system I had on the system when I was using the free version when I loaded the paid version I left it at what it was set at xfs I'm wondering now if there is a conflict like what if the array was created as btrfs because when I open the drive on my pc I now only see the flash drive as if the array was new and had no shares set yet but in the gui console shows the drives are green and if I click on the folder icon on the right I can see the shares I created in the free version the array still won't format my cache drive ssd is there a simple way to format the whole array as I have no data on them yet? I'll post screen shots after work maybe someone will see something glaring.
  6. ok so I have been learning the in's and out's of unraid, bought a key and started finalizing my system and I now think I may have fried my mobo. I stripped out the front i/o by removing all the connections such as the usb, audio and card reader so my board had the bare minimum I purchased a cheap usb cable to plug in the usb stick internally that way it was not sticking out prone to damage. I plugged the cable in the way I thought it should go unfortunately my board has no pin-out indicators and I know for a fact that I fried the unraid usb but now the new flash drive boots but I'm getting this error and I cannot format my ssd cache drive in unraid which appears to be working, also my shares are no longer showing up on my pc's but show on the drives in unraid any help in direction would be appreciated but me thinks a new board and hardware are in the future.
  7. So I have my box running pretty good for a beginner (bought a key tonight) and I am going with 3 4TB hard drives and the question I have is I have one of those pice x1 ssd cards which provides me 2 additional options 1 2.5 ssd and 1 sata connector for whatever I choose I currently have a 1 TB 2.5 hdd drive from a laptop upgrade mounted on the card and my cache drive ssd on the sata connection would it be more advantageous to ditch the 1TB drive and have 2 240GB ssd's as cache drives will it provide any more performance over the little space lost by the hdd? And I hate looking at the pcie x16 slot sitting empty is there something you folks would recommend to occupy that slot for a NAS setup either for performance or upgrade, mind you I have 2 scratch built rigs a Ryzen R5 1600x and my daily driver is an R7 1800x both have 1080's in them and my daily drive is a triple monitor setup so I don't think a GPU is needed in the NAS

    Inactive disk

Yep have a couple of those I have a total of 4 factory slots for 3.5 drives with only 3 sata ports and I have 1 pcie x1 with the cache drive on it, it also has a sata connector to add a drive off the card for a total of 5 drives but that's a good idea didn't think of that I have quite a bit of unobstructed space as its a pre-built so you can imagine there's not much in there although it is an i7 6700 w/16gigs of ram I'll have to look at the specs on my raid card that has a 4 cable break out but I might be getting close to the psu threshold as its only 350 watts.

    Inactive disk

That's a good read thanks for the link, I didn't see any mention of ssd vs hdd for the cache the reason I ask is my box is a pre built so I'm limited to 4 3.5 slots for hdd's and 1 pcie x1 slot and 1 pcie x16 slot I will be putting one of those expansion cards which supports 2 ssd's in the x1 slot which will give me the ability to mount 1 ssd on the card and jury rig the other in the case if I use the x16 slot for which I don't know what is the best bang for the buck in terms of its use i.e. a multi port nic or some other option then I will have some options I have a raid card which allows for 4 more sata connections but I'm not sure if raid cards play nice with unRAID so I'll continue reading from that link seems pretty straight forward, thanks again for any help you can provide!

    Inactive disk

I installed a new second disk to the array and set it up over night had a green indicator but noticed it went white to inactive I have spin down set to 1hr I suspect this is normal but figured I'd ask here. Also when I want to add something to a folder do I want to add it to the cache (ssd for speed), the share or the shared disk still learning so bear with me just trying to make sure before I mess something up

    Wifi question

Did create a user name and password in unraid and did give them permission the windows security screen would not accept it even tried creating one specifically for that. Have network discovery on unless I'm missing something I'm not aware of will check in the am and will post if I find a solution to that. ip address on my server is xxx.xxx.x.151 my MacBook pro is xxx.xxx.x.153 via wifi my iMac is xxx.xxx.x.154 and my pc is xxx.xxx.x.163 I can open plex on all computers with the player installed and I can open gui in unraid to access the plex server I also managed to port forward the plex server to access from outside the network

    Wifi question

I may not have been clear here is my setup: 1st floor has wifi router with unraid server connected to it my imac is also connected via ethernet to the router and is seeing the server I also have an apple time machine/router hooked up as well (was using as back up drive) 2nd floor has what verizon calls an extender with my pc on it, my macbook pro is seeing the server no problem anywhere in the house via wifi the extender is connected to coax the wifi signal that it is producing is from the main router downstairs so its an extention as it has the downstairs routers name listed in my available networks I don't see the address anywhere for the extender listed and the extender omly has 2 ports where the wifi router has 4 I do have 2 gigibit switches available if needed There must be some network function turn off or disabled on my pc I just don't know where to even start?

    Wifi question

Here's what I'm dealing with: unraid server connected via ethernet cable to main wifi router 1st floor I can log into the gui on any computer on any wire or wifi Both apple computers on 1st floor 1 connected via ethernet cable and 1 wifi able to log into and see the nas and log into the gui, the wfi mac can log in anywhere in the house 1st floor and second floor are not connected by ethernet only coax for which the routers are on was wondering if I need to double nas but not sure how or why that would be needed main computer is a pc (R7 1800x) is connected to a router on 2nd floor and cannot see the unraid server either by cable or wifi but it is seeing the plex server docker I think is what you call it It has to be something with a network setting on the pc at least thats my theory anyway this has been a real pain as other than this I really like the whole format of unRAID over freeNAS its just user friendly and I don't need all the power and options of a more complex server software solution.

    Wifi question

If I have a NAS box with weak wifi hardwired to a wifi router does the box now ride on that signal? the reason I ask is my MacBook pro is seeing my box in the next room but my rig upstairs is not and the wifi card in the box is weak and damaged
