  1. Thanks for trying to figure this out! Looks like it going to be a bit before we 9900k owners get hardware video decoce/encode support.
  2. @GreySyntax good luck in your quest! I'm hoping to make use of the iGPU with my 9900k on Unraid as well so I wish you the best! It would be awesome to leverage hardware decoding in Plex. I wish I had the know how to participate in your endeavors.
  3. I don't know enough to dive into the details but I made my first Windows 10 VM the other day passing through an EVGA GTX980 Ti and experienced similar issues. Moving the mouse around the desktop would peg the GPU usage at 100%. I am running Unraid 6.6.7 and my problems disappeared after I removed the "Graphics ROM BIOS" from my config, updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers and rebooted the VM a couple of times. Now things seem to be working as expected. You may have already done those things but I thought I'd share in case you hadn't.
  4. @matryska Thanks for putting this guide together! I am excited to give this a go. One question, is there any way to limit how much space the time machine backup will take on the share with this method? Or will Time Machine just use all of the available space on the drive until it is full? Thanks for your time and help!
  5. @limetech Any update on the possibility of the inclusion of the 4.20 or newer Linux kernel?
  6. Good news! It has finally booted after 3 days of beating my head against the wall. I remembered that I have another server on hand that uses the same type of memory, DDR4 2133 ECC, so I borrowed a stick and the damn thing booted up. So I went back and tried the two sticks individually and both caused the same error with UNRAID hanging while loading. This is really confusing considering that the original memory ran for 12+ hours via Memtest with no issues. To make sure that there isn't a problem with the motherboard running in dual channel memory mode I borrowed another memory stick and it still worked. So seems pretty conclusive that I've got bad memory or that the memory I had is incompatible for some reason (I will have to go check the list on supermicro's website as I thought when this equipment was originally purchased that it was on the list) For posterity, removing all other USB devices didn't fix this issue for me. I also tried disabling all of the other USB controllers as well as changing other various BIOS settings related to USB and nothing resolved this issue. In the end the memory is either bad or incompatiable. Shout out to Benson for joining in the fray with me! Thanks!
  7. Hey Benson, Thanks for chiming in. Safe Mode doesn't make a difference. Unraid never fully loads so the array never even has a chance to start. I have tried a 6.5.3 and 6.6.6 and both hang on the same spot listed in the attached screenshot. Bahndit
  8. BIOS has been updated and the problem persists. Still can't get past the screen that I attached in the original post. Does anyone have any thoughts? Does anyone know if the text on the attached picture point to anything in particular that I should try? I am at a loss of what to do next over here. I've helped people put together 10+ UNRAID systems over the last nine years and I have never run into a problem like this one.
  9. Just realized there is a BIOS update. I will report back if it helps. I would still love any input anyone might have to offer. Thanks,
  10. I just finished putting together a new build using a Xeon E5-1620 v4 with a SuperMicro C7X99-OCE-F Motherboard. The unit posts just fine and I am able to start the process of loading UNRAID but eventually the server just hangs at the following screen. I have done the following: Ran Memtest overnight and it came up clean. tried all of the USB ports on the motherboard with no change tried both Legacy and UEFI boot methods. re-installed UNRAID on the USB Stick several times using both MacOS and Windows Installers. I also tried an old school manual install. verified that the USB stick had a good install by using it to boot another server temporarily. I removed all PCIE Cards from the motherboard. No Change I am not sure where to go from here. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and help! -Bahndit
  11. Thanks for the input Hoopster. I've looked at the Supermicro options, like the X11SCA-F , but I have not looked at ASRock yet. Thanks again for the input. It is very appreciated!
  12. Well, I had some more time and so I did some more digging using the search on the forum. On the ECC front: Looks like most would recommend ECC Memory but if one does enough testing of their memory then they can avoid at least the potential pitfall of bad memory. You still leave yourself open to a bad bit at some point so one needs to make a personal decision on that point. On CPU front: besides the lack of support for ECC memory with the i9-9900k the other potential issue, at least for the near future, is that the iGPU on the 9900k will not be supported until UNRAID upgrades to the 4.20 Linux kernel. UNRAID 6.7.0 will likely come relatively soon but at least one post by the developers suggests that 6.7.0 will not have the 4.20 Linux kernel. Kind of a bummer but it will happen someday I imagine. Based on those findings, I am leaning more towards the i9-9900k. With that in mind does anyone have any thoughts on a different motherboard or should I stay with the Gigabyte C246-WU4?
