  1. My server, unraid 5.0b13, has thrown the following error twice in the last couple of hours, while I was copying a bunch of files. Nov 29 16:47:01 Repository kernel: crond[17306]: segfault at b786951c ip b786951c sp bf90f544 error 15 in ld-2.11.1.so[b7869000+1000] I am a newb at this so I would appreciate if anyone can shed light on this? Thanks! syslog-2011-11-29.txt
  2. My G620 build using a supermicro C7P67 might meet your needs, except that the nics are realtek. Mine is working beautifully so far.
  3. I started using unraid with an old dell, described in another post as frankenserver. That case/mb combination can support 6 drives with the onboard connectors. The case could hold maybe two more, and that's it, so I decided to makeover the hardware; the dell xps610 is a BTX board and I didnt have much luck finding a case - decided not to look real hard due to the power consumption of the 2.4 Ghz Core2Duo processor. Because my new m/b has realtek nic's, I was forced to, at the same time, upgrade to unraid 5.0b13. Here's the build: Case - Antec 300 mb - Supermicro C7P67 cpu - Intel G620 ram - 4 gb of cheap microcenter DDR3 1333 ram SATA controller - AOC-SASLP-MV8, PCIe x4 video card - 8 mb ati rage =), PCI ps - Corsair 550 W 80plus builder series boot drive - Sandisk 4 mb Cruizer blade Unraid 5.0b13 Drives: 2 Hitachi HDS5C3020 2 TB, 1 Samsung HD204UI 2 Tb, 1 WD20EARS 2 TB, 2 Seagate SD2000 2 TB, 1 Hitachi HDS7210 1 TB, 1 Samsung HD102UJ 1 TB, and 1 WD10EADS 1 TB The server seems to run well under 5.0b13, although I can't run the memory test. I tested it under windows 7 memory tester. I got no reportout, so I guess that means the memory passes. I was unable to get this mb to recognize my netgear pcie nic (??) so this necessitated my moving from a stable 4.7 build to 5.0b13. I hope to report in a month the level 1 and 2 certifications for this mb; I have already transferred some 400 gb of data over my network. I used this server to preclear three drives; the two new seagates and the 10eads, which had lived in my tivo for about two years. Sorry tivo =) I'm not too happy with this case. I got it at microcenter because I like my Antec 100 and it was on sale, but it doesnt hold enough drives. The internal 3.5 bays are too far apart - there is almost room for two drives per drive slot; lots of space is wasted, even though there are fan mounts for in front of the drives. . . . I have a 3 into 2 drive cage that has a fan in front; I placed that into two of the external 5.25 bays and mounted 3 drives in it. I have a spare 5.25 bay but every other drive bay is full. I am thinking about trying to return it; if not I will eventually drill some new holds and remove the fins that the drives sit on. Otherwise it is a nice case, but the 100 is better in just about any given way; truth is they are very similar cases though.
  4. Hmm, no idea there was confusion. Here's what the webpage says: 4x SATA 3.0 (6Gb) w/ RAID 0, 1; 4x SATA 2.0 (3Gb) w/ RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Core/P67/C7P67.cfm I am referring to the SATA 3.0 6 Gb; is that SATA III?
  5. This may be unrelated, but is it possible there is a problem with unraid and SATA 3.0? There is a thread on my new hardware here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=16813.0 I don't want to clutter this thread if this is irrelevant. Again, beta 13.
  6. Thanks for checking, Rajahal. I have one drive hooked up to the onboard SATA 3.0 port, drive #2. As I add drives I will use those ports. When I first set up this server, using a fresh, free copy of beta13, I had all three drives (I was just going to preclear them) plugged into the onboard SATA 3.0 ports. I had some problems - my old WD 1.0 TB green drive failed preclear; subsequently it passed when attached to my array. Perhaps there is a problem with unraid and SATA 3.0?
  7. I seem to have the drive spin-down problem as well. I tried to spin down all drives from the unraid menu page, and then I checked in the unmenu mymain page. Three of the drives, including the parity drive, out of nine, did not spin down. I was able to spin those down by clicking on the spin icon on mymain. I still run beta 13. Syslog attached. There seem to be a few errors in there but I am still a newb. I have transferred about 100 GB to the new array under beta 13. EDIT: I let the server idle for about 1.5 hrs, and all of my drives spun down _except_ these three drives. Any ideas about what I can do? Should I turn off the unraid idle as suggested below? syslog-2011-11-26.txt
  8. I had to break my syslog into two files due to the size limitation. part b (here) includes the start of the preclear process. syslog-2011-11-24_part_b.txt
  9. I have upgraded my server hardware and would like input on the results. My original server is described here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=16056.0 I had a total of 8 gb space on that, and I need more. So I purchased a Pro upgrade, two 2 tb seagates, and ripped out the 1 tb EADS from my tivo. Here is my new hardware: Intel G620 processor Supermicro C7P67 m/b, with two pcie x16 slots, 4 sata 3.0 and 4 sata 2.0 ports, dual realtek nics Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8-Port SAS/SATA card 4 gb ram ddr3 1333 9 drives total In the process, I have been forced to upgrade to unraid 5.0 beta 13, due to the nics. I am concerned about the smartctl reports of my new drives - thoughts? syslog-2011-11-24_part_a.txt smartctl_-a_-d_ata_-dev-sdc_disk6.txt smartctl_-a_-d_ata_-dev-sdg_disk7.txt
  10. I cant seem to run a memtest with this board - it hangs. I have tried two different sets of two 2gb sticks, and the exact same thing happens - looks like the test is preparing to start, and it just hangs. I would appreciate any advice anyone can give me.
  11. I am preclearing 2 new drives and an older WD drive using the latest 5.0 beta 13. My WD went through the entire process, but at the end returned these results: ================================================================== 1.13 = unRAID server Pre-Clear disk /dev/sda = cycle 1 of 1, partition start on sector 64 = Disk Pre-Clear-Read completed DONE = Step 1 of 10 - Copying zeros to first 2048k bytes DONE = Step 2 of 10 - Copying zeros to remainder of disk to clear it DONE = Step 3 of 10 - Disk is now cleared from MBR onward. 12. Hi all, I just want to report that I am running the latest 5.0 beta on my new server using a fresh, free copy of unraid to preclear some disks prior to upgrading my existing frankenserver and migrating to my new server hardware. My new server is (temporarily): supermicro C7P67, socket 1155 with dual realtec nic's g620 processor 4 gb cheapo ddr3 1333 ram 2 new seagate 2 tb drives 1 recycled wd green 1 tb (wdidle to be run) i am just preclearing on this server Anyway, the reason I post here is to report that networking is working fine - I am able to freely use unmenu, etc, to monitor the server. more later when I upgrade if there is anything to report here.
  13. I just got home with my new server parts. I need more storage, so I am upgrading my hardware. I am just building a new server, using a supermicro c7p67/G620 setup. The board was $120 at microcenter, has two pci x16 slots, and 6 sata ports. should be good for up to 22 drives. I am going to run a separate copy of unraid free to preclear the drives before putting my existing frankenserver (a dell xps610) into the box. Any comments on the board?
  14. Actually there is a problem with this m/b, at least for me. It has only one pcie 16x slot - the Sata controller card recommended is a pcie 4x, and I need two for my long range expansion plans. I love my current win7 pc's intel board; it's too bad this one has only one pcie 16x. Oh, well.
  15. I am going to upgrade my server (already) as I need more space. I would like to run a G620 processor, and I would like to avoid the nic problems by going with this intel board. Does anyone have anythoughts about this combination? I will have a supermicro 8-port sata controller, the board has 4 onboard sata ports, so this would give me support for 12 drives as is. Here is the configuration: 550 W power supply DH61WWB3 intel mb G620 processor onboard nic Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 4 gb ram. Thoughts?
  16. Here you can see the two stock drive locations on the floor of the box. I have added a third drive here, resting unmounted on its side. Note the close proximity of the SATA power connectors to each other; placing a drive in the middle is the only way to utilize all three; adjacent SATA power connectors are too close to connect to these two drives.
  17. Here you see the cooling box from behind. I have two drives in it - three is a tight squeeze, and in the summer, when the ambient temp in the basement was about 20 to 25 C iirc, the three drives with the box fan running (but not the case fan you can see above), the three drives were in the 40 C range, so I removed one and placed it under the cooling box as you can see.
  18. Here you can see the NIC and the Raging 8 MB video card =)
  19. Here you can see the PS and the cabling. I am not skilled at making the inside of a computer look like art, but one complaint I have about the PS is that the cabling is hard to work with - perhaps the case is on the small side. The power connectors for SATA are too close together and then I have a bunch of unused molex connectors. hmm. On the back here I have added a case fan to pull air out of the box, but I havent needed it yet. The Cooling Box helped a lot. now that its cold, I have the cooling box fan unplugged to keep those two drives up at about 38 C during operation.
  20. I set up my unraid server about two months ago. The computer is a Dimension 9200 / XPS 410 / DXP061 - I bought the 410 in 2006. I am running a Core2 Duo 6600 @ 2.40GHz. The system has 4 GB of ram and 6 sata ports. I had replaced the power supply some time ago with a 550W Corsair 80 plus PS. I installed a EverCool Dual 5.25 in. Drive Bay to Triple 3.5 in. HDD Cooling Box in the two 5.25 bays to hold three hard drives. The case is designed to house two hard drives on the bottom in an unusual setup but I placed two drives there. Now, because of the PS SATA power cabling, I was forced to put only three drives up top (there is room for an additional two drives beneath the two 5.25 bays), and a third drive on the bottom of the case with the other two. There is another reason for this - the distance between the SATA PS ports is too small to span the distance between the two drives situated horizontally, so using the third drive in between allows use of all three power ports. This drive I leave standing on its side - quite inelegant but the box does not move. I have two Hitachi HDS5C302 2 TB drives (one is parity), One Samsung HD204UI 2 TB drive, A WD WD20EARS 2 TB, A Hitachi HDS72101 1 TB, and a Samsung HD102UJ 1 TB drive
  21. PS could someone update the wiki for me? http://www.lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hardware_Compatibility#An_explanation_of_what_the_.22Tested_Level.22_column_means From what I can tell, hardware strangeness aside, this is a very solid system to use for unraid. I could hold a total of three drives in my cooling box, two drives in the 3.5 in bays below that, two in the stock position on the floor, without case modiifications, or a total of 7 drives. There is room in the case for two more drives above the stock drive positions, but customized mounts would be needed. You would also need an SATA card.
  22. I'd like to report that my XPS 410 is running smoothly enough that I can offer a Level 2 Certification. I have posted recently on the Level 1, and I just completed a second parity check yesterday. In between these two posts I have copied approximately 2.5 TB to the array. I have it nearly 1/2 full now, out of the 8 TB. The Syslog is posted below. Here is a link to the thread containing the photos http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=16056.0 Also, I am copying the hw info from my first post: I set up my unraid server about two months ago. This board will not boot without a video card. I sourced an 8 MB ATI rage card for the server =) and it works perfectly. As I state below, I also added an NIC for gigabit ethernet - the stock NIC is a bit flaky and I had added this NIC card in about 2008. I installed a EverCool Dual 5.25 in. Drive Bay to Triple 3.5 in. HDD Cooling Box in the two 5.25 bays to hold three hard drives. The case is designed to house two hard drives on the bottom in an unusual setup but I placed two drives there. The server has run pretty flawlessly. I have been steadily copying media to various shares - I am using only share directories. Disk temps have been below 35 almost always and are typically around 30 - I am worried this is too cold as when not in use, the drive temps get as low as 18 to 21, depending on the drive location. I also have a gigabit network card installed; the onboard ethernet was always a bit flaky. syslog-2011-10-25.txt
  23. I set up my unraid server about a month and a half ago and wanted to report on my setup and my experience with it. I am posting a log file from the last 30 days of use. Here is a link to the photos http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=16056.0 The computer is a Dimension 9200 / XPS 410 / DXP061 - I bought the 410 in 2006. I have a mixed network but when copying from a puter with gigabit ethernet, I typically get transfer rates in the 33 MB/s range, occasionally higher. Overall it is a bit flaky from a hardware layout perspective but it works fine. I am looking forward to building a bigger system down the road when I run out of storage. However, once Unraid 5 is released and I can add 3 TB drives, this configuration could handle as much as 15 TB of data, if I replace all the drives. If existing drives fail I will replace them with the larger drives. I am also considering upgrading my license to handle more drives and just build the larger array sooner. We will see. syslog-2011-10-08.txt
