  1. You'd think it would... I sure as hell did... but it doesn't. It returns: rm: cannot remove `FOO': Directory not empty You can rm the .fuse_hidden file, but it just adds another after incrementing the number after .fuse_hidden.
  2. I'm having the same trouble and cannot find a post with details on this... If someone could point this out to me, I'd appreciate it. EDIT: I think this is it, or at least the start of the relevant information. Also, apparently 3.6.9 is the new hotness.

  4. Turns out the tiny "Cancel" button is remarkably close to the tiny "Refresh" button on the main page of the 5.0-rc8a web interface. Which leads up to a funny story about how I accidentally canceled a parity check seven hours after starting it instead of refreshing the page. And by "funny," I mean "enraging." I seem to remember there being a pop up alert in earlier versions, preventing this sort of clumsy mousework on my part. Regardless, does anyone know how easy it would be to add simple javascript to that page... or, I don't know, moving those two buttons to opposite corners of the screen?

  7. I had this thought on my way out to get kids from school, so it's not *quite* as lazy as it appears: can anyone tell me if preclear_disk.sh can run under any distro or just unRAID OS? By the way, it's taking longer than 13 hours. Looks more like 18 hours.

  9. I'm building a new unRAID array and have what's going to be the parity drive hooked up to the only 6.0GB/s header on the motherboard. It's preclearing at 170MB/s (3TB in 13 hours!) and I'm wondering if it would be worth swapping out the other drives to that header for preclearing. I can't think of a reason why this would not be worthwhile, but honestly, it's never occurred to me before. Does the array care what header a drive was attached to? I'm assuming since preclear_disk.sh -t shows it's precleared state, that would be good regardless where else it showed up. While I've got your attention, I'm working under the assumption that having the parity drive on the 6.0GB/s header is the best plan. Is there something I'm overlooking, some reason to follow a different plan? Annnnnnd further wondering if I could preclear disks on different boxes, then add them all into a single array? Parallel preclearing, of a sort. Thanks! (I'm using 5.0-rc8a)

  11. I have a parity drive that won't spin and two data drives (of four) that don't show up in BIOS. As far as I can tell from reading, that's the end of my array. In an attempt to figure out how the hell I lost three drives in the space of a week, I got an external cage and thought to test them on my Windows 7 box... thinking (hoping) maybe the motherboard went wonky, not the drives. While I wait for that cage to show up, is there anything else I can do to resurrect the array? And after the cage shows up, if I do have three failed drives, is there any way to pull info off drives that are still good while hooked up as an external drive?
  12. So my replacement WD drive showed up... Any advice on what to do with an array holding one red drive and one blue drive? I wasn't going to bother with the pre-clear script, since the array is not going to be up and running.
  13. Swapping cables eventually got the BIOS to see the drive, but it returned a warning of "SMART Capable but Command Failed" and unRAID considers it missing. I'm going to call that dead. While googling about to see what I could find on that warning, I discovered Western Digital has a pretty slick, painless way of checking if your drive is still under warranty here. That's a silver lining, I suppose.
  14. With one drive red and one blue, I'm "only" going to lose the red? Thanks for the response, by the way. As an aside, it's uncanny and immensely frustrating how changing anything at all in the box causes me issues. Losing a 2TB drive while replacing a 2TB drive seems a harsh penalty.
  15. I've replaced the SATA cable, swapped out ports... I can't get the drive to show up in the BIOS. Anyone have any other suggestions, short of pulling it and trying it in a different motherboard? Also, if it is toast, this does mean I've lost the entire array, correct?
  16. Thanks and done. As a bonus, the BIOS refuses to keep the boot configuration past the save and reboot. I've tried the tips for working with an AMI BIOS, but no joy.
  17. I finally figured out the reason it wasn't booting was the BIOS had the boot order/devices completely goofed. I fixed, booted and reached the unRAID web server. And now I've got the new disk listed and blue, as expected, but unRAID's drive 2 is now red. So, no array. Not panicking immediately, I shut it down, fiddled with the cables and such and rebooted. I've got no array. I also have no idea why the drive went away. It's unRAID drive1, which is SATA4 or SATA6, depending on when I took the syslog. syslog is... forum is returning an error when a post includes URLs? So, searching pastebin.com for "unRAID syslog 20120112" should turn it up. Thanks for the help. syslog_20120112a.zip

  19. I had a 1TB drive turn up red balled in a 4.6 array. Parity check turned up write errors so I got a new 2TB drive and swapped it in. I also upgraded to 4.7... which wasn't intentional, but I grabbed the identical, but wrong jump drive. Despite marking them clearly. I rebooted and overlooking the troubling fan noises I'm hearing now, I've got an unRAID box that's spinning the HDDs according to the activity light, but the box itself is unreachable by telnet, ping, etc. Is this expected behavior during a rebuild? Apologies if this is laid out somewhere, I did a fast search, but I also have various children either going to the doctor or getting booted back out of school for same. I had high hopes I could plop their miserable selves in front of some shows after I round them up! Thanks!
  20. I've never had to worry about quality before, so... no idea what or even if there's a standard operating procedure for doing so is. And if Ohio was an option, I'd be gone. Or practically any other state for that matter. Anyhoo... thanks!
  21. Well, I'm confused. I've got the unRAID box back up and running (yay for no obvious moving damage) and on the network via PowerLine. I tried a couple of movies, which worked fine, but HD rips are pausing every 3-5 seconds for at least five seconds. I assumed the connection was the issue. I fired up LAN Speed Test and ran it a couple of times as a preliminary step. With a 100Mb file, 16Mbps write, 33Mbps read. That's obviously not enough to pull multiple HD streams, but surely enough to have it play back better than what I'm seeing. I wondered if it might be the file size and ran it again with a 1000Mb file... and then it got very odd. 36Mbps write, 33Mbps read. Now regardless of what size file I try, I see 30-36Mbps writes and 32-33Mbps reads consistently. Anyone have either an explanation for the write/read speeds and/or a suggestion on why I'm seeing so much trouble with a HD movie? Y'know, other than offering to run wire with me?
  22. Not sure anyone is interested, but based on the condition of the coax I could see, I decided to try the PowerLine solution. While I would have paid more for the Netgear AV+ 500 adapters, they're apparently not actually out, even though the Netgear site has them listed. I bought a pair of AV+ 200 adapters and plugged them in. While I don't yet have a way to test the speeds on the internal network, speakeasy.net's speed test shows 30Mbps down, 20Mbps up. Which is clearly good. I'm planning on ordering another pair to hook up the unRAID and XBMC boxes, so I'll hopefully be able to report on internal speeds soon. And, y'know, watch a movie or two. Anyone have any suggestions on a simple four port hub for connecting a variety of devices to one of the adapters, while I'm asking?
  23. It's not exactly comparable, but in the house we built with A/V control firmly in mind, we had three TVs. One of them had a 10" touch panel available in a cradle. More often than not, I'd go upstairs to get one of the other two remotes (which looked like a regular remote but was a RF connected device), switch it to that TV room and use that. It was remarkable how irritating it was to have to look down to know where the buttons were. The gesture idea is interesting, but seems like you could get a confused device if you were, I dunno, trying to keep it out of the grip of your 17 month old. There is a homebrew whole house A/V control system that uses your cell phone to as a RFID, basically. If you walked from one room to another, it would switch whatever the active A/V signal was to that room and turn control over to that area. I can't remember what it was, but I found it while researching Control4 a few years ago. I imagine that's only gotten more attention with the iThingie storm that's hit since then.
  24. That's interesting... there are coax terminations in quite a few of the places I would need, I think. I'll research more on my own, but would you know if they're capable of handling both networking and video distribution (via a splitter of some variety)? EDIT: Well, other than the price, this seems a better idea than hoping the wiring in this house will handle PowerLine gear. I'd like to know why it's not compatible with satellite TV, but thanks for the info!
  25. No, that's a huge deal. I doubt anyone would suggest otherwise. I guess if someone was determined to have a Harmony-like remote, without springing into the stratospheric level of server based whole house A/V control, they'd clearly have to decide if it was worth the effort. I had forgotten about physically mashing buttons on the components... been spoiled with a dedicated equipment room. You can't swipe the batteries from a component!
