  1. Same, its really the best pay-for AV around, then MSE would be (from my own independent reading again) the best free AV these days. Gotta remember that at one time AVG was good, same with AntiVir & Kaspersky. After time when you look back and read about independent stats for catching viruses they usually drop out or go lower and lower each year. There's always new viruses and malware, it depends on the company to keep those definitions timely. Sidenote: Symantec AV (Business/Enterprise offering not residential Norton product) is also good. Additionally: Malware-Bytes in safe mode catches anything that might fall through the cracks of what some might categorize as virus... There is an option when installing NOD32 to block unsavory apps that could be malware but it may not be checked by default.
  2. Hey guys, System still see's that drive as Disk1 (only item in array for the moment). I installed vbox last night. After it slowed my system down considerably, I resorted to scrapping it and rebooting. Now the array is started and seems to be working but the precleared single drive has changed /dev assignments on its own from sdb to sdd. Should I be concerned if things are still able to read/write as usual? Currently on 5-beta 12a.
  3. If you've already added it to the array, no. It is no longer pre-cleared as unRAID has written to it. If you had not yet assigned it to the array, then it is simple to change the partitioning using the -C option in preclear_disk.sh However, it is perfectly fine as you have it. The ONLY drives with the performance issue are Western Digital EARS drives. They have firmware that works less efficiently if not aligned on a 4K boundry. No other drives have this issue. Please post the preclear report for that drive. you'll find it in /boot/preclear_reports I'll be curious to what it says. Good to know! Thanks so much for your help Joe. Attached below is the report. Drive was freshly unboxed/installed and not attached to anything else prior. 4. Trying to confirm the HDD partition is correct. OS: 5.0-beta12a Ran latest "preclear_disk.sh /dev/sdb" thinking the value in Settings > Disk Settings > "Default partition format" would be considered automatically. 26 hours later and added into the new array with no data yet added... Next time I will be using "-A" switch to ensure the MBR is set correctly but is there anyway to fix this without doing the whole 26 hour operation again? 5. Initially when I spec'd a build it was intended on OpenIndiana/ZFS calling for 16GB (non-ECC) memory on 4x modules. Is there anything I can do with these to get higher performance or any kind of actual usage? If not I may take 3 for a gaming PC with just 2GB memory. I'd prefer to use it in the unraid box but if its simply not needed then I can find other uses for it.
  6. Hi! first time poster. Starting this build was heavily influenced by Johnm's Goliath (Thanks for making good forum reading materials!). If anyone has suggestions for apps or what I could also do I'd be happy to hear it! I love tinkering with the cutting edge stuff and apps that make things faster or interesting. Just want to note that if I didn't cheap out on a low-power i3 2100 and went with a Xeon chip I'd have been happily passing through the BR10i cards and making the most of what I got... Good thing is with the i3, its power draw is lower than a Xeon would have been. BR10i's aren't supported on the latest beta 14a. Using "beta 12a". I will be gradually moving the 8x 2TB drives off of my WHS server and putting them into this starting with a fresh 2TB I picked up at Staples for $120 at the time. Current loaded apps: unmenu (useful for installing other apps) simplefeatures (awesome GUI!) unraid-web (uninstalling as it is unneeded) preclear_disk - No more playing roulette with my drives! (tests HDD fully for errors and adds note to unraid view with result... a 2TB could take some 25 hours to finish)
