  1. you may also want to take a look at the drive in unraid it has a list of different values and see what type of error it is if it's a UDMC (Not sitting at my server that might not be the right name exactly), in which case it could just be a cable issue, which a new drive would not fix. As trurl said a diagnostic file would have told us this.
  2. I'm trying to see if I can get this to work in my environment, but I'm having a bit of an issue with it it keeps tell me it can't find the DB, but I see no way to configure the MySQL option as I already run my sql db I was hoping that I could just continue to use it, but the maintainer of the docker seems to suggest it needs to be called something specific. So I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I need to do.
  3. I currently use MyMovies (mymovies.dk) running in a VM but there has to be a better option than running a full vm for just this one application. All I do with it is keep a list of my dvd collection.
  4. I bought some cheep sas to sata cables and they have worked great for a while, but they are starting to break down. Is there a list of recommended cables to buy? I just ordered what ever newegg.ca had at the time.
  5. How is your plex server setup. Bridge, or host? if it's set to bridge try host, that is how I've got mine setup.
  6. Looks like that did it thank you. They both say active now :). Thank you.
  7. Something doesn't seem right with my cache pool. It supposed to be a raid1 but it only looks like it is right to one disk. Is this normal? It also shows cache 1 as standby, should it be active? also when I goto balance and select raid1 and fails (error should be in diag logs). 8. Looking for emby support any chance that could be added to feature requests, I think you already have one for jellyfin which likely will be close to emby as jellyfin is a fork of emby..
  9. I have bought two new drives and am planning to replace two older drives, but was there any way to decided what the drives I should replace. All drives are heathy. Some have UDMA errors but that was a bad sata cable :(. Should I just choose the oldest drive, or is there a better metric to go by.
  10. I'm not sure anyone can convince you. But I will say this I'm a windows admin and I switch to unraid. I made a test system and played with and found that it would do the job I needed it to do. And I find that I didn't need to know linux to use unraid. The web ui does most of everything that I need and what it doesn't the community is always here to help.
  11. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm having trouble getting this started.. I keep getting this error over and over. if I create the /tmp/openvpn folder it seems to continue, I then also have to start the webui. But when I stop or restart the docker it undoes/reset the tmp directory so the openvpn folder doesn't exist any more. I'm also not sure how to fix or correct the warning, but I'll so have read it not critical. Tue Mar 10 22:08:07 2020 WARNING: file 'credentials.conf' is group or others accessible Options error: --status fails with '/tmp/openvpn/openvpn-status.log': No such file or directory (errno=2) Options error: Please correct these errors.
  12. I currently have a Rosewell Sata cage in my system but it too big with the motherboard I have in my case (Fractal Design XL v1, has 10x3.5) drive bays, and 4x5.25). But with the EATX motherboard it just too big to fix properly. Does anyone know of a smaller verison, or something that has a much smaller fan. It can be taller and use up all 4 bays if needed.
  13. As my motherboard is an older supermicro board (X9DR3-F) and I'm looking at adding Syba SI-PEX40110 M.2 PCI-e to M2 cards. As well as an m2 drive havn't decided on that yet, as suggestions on that is welcome. Are these card compatible with unraid and my board? They will be used for a cached drive, and possible VM running drive. Haven't fully decided on all the details.. Looking at my options..
  14. I had mine set to high water at first. so I didn't have the issues you describe, I then set it to most space available, that seem to work for me. As I don't care where the data is as long as it there :). I also was adding one disk at a time so, that might have had something to do with it as well. This might be something to ask in the docker section for Krusader. The one time I did notice it is when I had two move jobs running, if it was more then what was available total but, each individual job used less space than available it would fail.
  15. in most cases you can just swap the board and away you go. There is always risk involved how ever. I would always have a backup just in case..
  16. Look at storage spaces, I can't remember if windows 10 supports it or not but I think it does. But honestly I've used most of them and so for unraid has all the features that I'd ever want/need. The thing with storage spaces it has a really weird quirk with how you add disks, that I didn't like, I also feel it's still not mature enough. That is completely a personal opinion so take it with all the implied quotes :).
  17. there is a section of bios tuning might help :
  18. There are couple of different options. There is storage spaces but it has its limits/quirks. There is snapraid and a drive pooling software. I'm unsure what you are looking for in a commercial version of unraid? That might help and answering your first question.
  19. I replicated my shares from the flexraid setup and just moved everything over on drive at a time, the only thing that is duplicated is the folder structure so it's not a big deal to continue over writing it as it just doesn't do anything. I used the krusader docker to do the moving. you could even create the folder structure a head of time using the linux commands without moving anything (Which is what I did for testing to see what it would actually look like with out moving my data, and sorry I don't remember what the command was that I used. But a quick google will work on finding the information). Keep in mind that you would create the root folders, and then copy the folders structure of each root folder. An example I had a root folder pictures so I create a share called pictures and then used krusader to copy/move pictures from drive 1 to the unraid shares drive, it will warn you that it's over writing pictures, you say yes and then it continues. Disk 2 you would do the same but this time you will get a second warning as disk 1 create the folder structure already, you will also say over write, and so on. The data that is already there will remain and the new data will also be written. You can test this if you wish with a small subset of drives using the onboard controller of you motherboard. I understand your concerns and the only way that you can be sure and put your mind at ease is to test it. Which is what I would suggest for anyone who is thinking of going down this road. I used some small disks and just played until I was sure/happy that it was the right way to do it. I just expanded my test box to my production box, this also allowed me to test drive replacing and recovery of disk function, which worked very well. As unraid is very flexible in this case it seems to handle hardware changes very well, there are outlining case (From what I've read) that don't always work like anything nothing is perfect. Hope this is helping/helped :).
  20. I came from flexraid like a month ago. I basically had two extra disks created my unraid server with parity so that I was not putting my data at risk and then started transferring my data over one drive at a time. Once the old disk was emptied I precleaned it and then added it to the unraid settings and started the next disk. I used the unassigned disk plug-in to mount the drives as they where ntfs it was no problem (Which I believe your system will be as well). And I also precleaned more than one disk at a time with out any problem. I'm not sure it's any faster, as it has to split bandwidth between your drives. This of course is my system yours sounds like it much better than mine :(..
  21. Unriad would become the main function of the shuttle case PC. You would then run VMs/Dockers for the various functions you wish. And example would be there is a docker for makemkv, which should allow for the ripping of your physical library. You can also pass various things to VMs (Don't have a BLU-Ray player in my system to know what access VM's/Dockers have to it). Good luck with the flexRAID rebuild never had one work, where as unraid I've had a couple work as I replaced smaller drivers with bigger drivers, it's slow on my system but it has worked every time. What I would do is find a spare machine build it up with the bare min and see if it will do what you want. There is a Full 30-Day trial that will get you started, you can then move the USB key to the other system attached the drives and it will continue to work in most cases as if nothing had happened.
  22. that is what I wanted to hear. I currently run about 6 dockers, and two VMs. I'd like the option to run more VMs if needed. I was also going to get into 4k so I'm most likely going to need to transcode for some of my devices (at least 3 devices) + 1 more devices that don't need transcodeing. I currently have been doing this all with two machines so I figure one is better than two :). I went ahead and bought it. I'm not worried about power usage at this point. It should give me enough breathing room to save for something way newer when I "need" it :).
  23. I was thinking of "upgrade" my system with SUPERMICRO X9DRi-F Motherboard 2x E5-2620 CPU. I just want to make sure that this will have enough cores for me. It is would be slower then my current cpu but, it has more cores and there are two of them. My thought is that 12 cores (24 threads) as apposed to 4 core even if they are slower by 400 mhz that would improve my experience with dockers x (6) and VM x (2). Any thoughts?
  24. I currently have AMD A6-3650 APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics @ 2600 MHz (FM1 Socket). I can get a really cheap upgrade to a A8-3870K (Which runs at 3000mhz). What I'm wondering is would it be good enough for my needs the A6 doesn't seem to be keeping up really (It sits at 90-100% all the time). I'm currently running 7 dockers (And have a couple others that I might want to later once I get used to how unraid dockers work), and two VMs. One is a DC, and there other is my windows 10 box. I'm just getting started with with unraid. So there is a lot I don't know :(. But I'm learning. :). I currently have an LSI Card 9201-16i with 13 disks (not all 13 are a part of the array yet, Will be two parity disks once they arrive), and non-ecc 32gigs ddr3 mem). I was also thinking of adding a second nic for the VMs, but was unsure if that would have any positive affect or if the cpu is too much of a bottleneck at this point to matter. I also have a 240 cache disk, that I think I might like to upgrade and then move my VM's to it to speed them up. My other thought was to buy something like https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Supermicro-X9DRi-LN4F-v1-10-Motherboard-2x-E5-2620-LGA2011-8GB-DDR3-2U-Heatsink/352811222163?_trkparms=aid%3D888008%26algo%3DDISC.CARDS%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131227121020%26meid%3D5b41c2add1054a5b9c14b3ecee0bf53b%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D133272154820%26itm%3D352811222163%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982 off ebay..
  25. Well just orders one my self of ebay, and will run with the current card until it arrives. hope nothing bad happens while I wait...
