March 9, 201115 yr Hi! Lately I have a lot of issues with my unRAID-Server. When I access the array via SMB the deletion of a directory is awful slow (MKV with 15 GBs on a single disc). Sometimes it needs 30 seconds and more to delete it. Quite often I get the message that the folder/file is in use but of course it isn't. I have to use "Telnet" and delete it manually. The syslog doesn't shows any problems. My guess is, that the SMB support is very bad since 10.6.6. Does anybody have the same or similar problems? Besides the WD and the cache drive I use Samsungs F2 Ecogreen. Bye.
March 9, 201115 yr I am a new UnRAID user, also with 0S X 10.6.6. SMB shares are dog slow! I was having stuttering problems that made all video unwatchable. I since have switched over to NFS shares, much, much better.
March 9, 201115 yr Check this post. And you can search the forums for a wealth of info setting up NFS shares. If you trouble I can try to help, but there are waaaaay more experience/knowledgeable types 'roun here.
March 10, 201115 yr If your using unRaid for a media server say for Plex and are running SL there's a quick way to have your shares auto mount in SL over NFS. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility > NFS Mounts. Fill in the remote NFS url and where you'd like it mounted in OS X, typically /Volumes/mysharehere. Add in -p for the advanced mount parameters. It won't appear automatically in the Shared list in Finder (just enter commaned + K in Finder to get to it) but it works like a charm and is perfect for media players like Plex who just reference the /Volumes/myshare.

What do I have to do on the unraid end?
March 10, 201115 yr I'm running one of the 5.0 beta flavors, so I can't remember if NFS is on 4.* unRaid. In v5, you just turn the NFS protocol on in the settings tab, and then edit the shares you want to use nfs.

March 10, 201115 yr I type in this under disk utility and it verifies but I can't seem to get anything to show up under finder
March 10, 201115 yr The Disk Utility verification message is misleading. It only verify that the NFS server is alive. Enter the complete path to the user share. E.g., nfs://tower/mnt/user/sharename I use the following advanced configuration parameters: nolocks, locallocks, intr, soft, wrsize=32768, nosuid What does -p do? I can't find a reference to it in RFC 1813.
March 10, 201115 yr Still nothing, any chance you can post some screenshots of what you have in unraid, disk utility and command - K?
March 10, 201115 yr On the unRAID share : Export (NFS): *(rw,insecure) In disk Utility: nfs://192.168.0.193/mnt/disk3/Backups On my Macmini HTPC I also have nfs://192.168.0.193/mnt/user/Movies Mount location: /Network/Backups and /Network/Movies For Advanced Parameters I have nolocks, locallocks, intr, soft, wrsize=32768, nosuid
March 10, 201115 yr Thank you, it's working now. Now one more question, how do I modify this so everything connects on startup? I can change the other once I know what to do. tell application "Finder" mount volume "smb://Tower/Documents" end tell
March 10, 201115 yr Once you configure this in Disk Utility it will mount on startup. I don't know if its user dependent.
March 10, 201115 yr I have a couple of 10.6.6 OSX machines and am not seeing any slow SMB performance. I just ran a test to make sure this was an accurate statement so I copied a folder full of VOB DVD and a mass of smaller text et al files to my desktop (> 60MB/s). Deleted the folder on unRAID (almost instantaneous) and then put them back (>60MB/s). Havnt really moved to NFS under OSX, but the linux systems run great on NFS, especially when building large distributions.
March 30, 201115 yr Author Hi! This improved the performance while opening folders on my unRAID server a lot: http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11127466&postcount=26 So far I can see it seems to be a MacOSX related issue. I tried connecting via a XP machine and deleted around 90 GB (on different drives) without any problems. Bye.
