March 16, 201115 yr Hello, How are you? So, my unraid server is running great since the build. No problems... Now, I'm thinking about doing some changes to it... The server was mainly built for a Movie Library. With that in mind, I chose the parts to allow it to be able to grow to a maximum of 20 drives... Now, because since I have the server I watched some 4 movies tops, I think I will rebuild the server to my current needs... Now I'm starting strong in photography and need a reliable place to store my raw files and the MP3 files I listen to while working with the pictures. The antec 1200 is too big, to noisy and consumes too much power for what I use it... So, I'm thinking about stripping the server, sell all the parts except the 3 WD20EARS and build the following: - Case: Chenbro ES34169 http://www.chenbro.eu/corporatesite/products_detail.php?sku=159 - PSU: The case already features a 120w built in PSU - Board: Asus AT3IONT-I It has an ION graphics onboard, and an Atom 330 Dual COre CPU. Passive Heatsink, low consuption. - Drives: 3x WD20EARS with the possibility to go to 4 drives. - Memory: Keep my 4gb of Corsair DDR3 memory. So, with this system I could have a very small case, with 4 drive bays Hot Swappable, and a silent and low consumption system... Looks good to me. My questions: - Will the 120W psu be enough? - The case has a slot for a 2,5 drive. Will adding a 2,5 40gb SSD be a good idea? Real speed boost? - Is the atom board compatible with Unraid? - Is the atom 330 enough power to run the Unraid? Hope you can help me out with your input... Regards!
March 16, 201115 yr Personally if your building a new server I would start a new build thread so its easier to follow and keep up with.

March 16, 201115 yr Author Personally if your building a new server I would start a new build thread so its easier to follow and keep up with. Yes, it's kind of a new build, since I'm only taking the hard-drives from my current server. I think my current setup is overkill, so I'm looking for something smaller and more efficient... Regards!

March 16, 201115 yr That's a nice case. Regarding the motherboard... Yes, the Atom 330 will be powerful enough for a basic unRAID set up. However, I would recommend a board with one of the newer Atom CPUs. The 330 is quite old now and will not be as efficitn as some of the newer parts - take a look at 410/510 or 425/525 devices. The difference is in the memory (DDR2 vs DDR3). Also, unless you already have the board, I would not go for the ION platform. For unRAID, ION is not needed. If you want to have a display connected then only very basic display hardware is required. Also I am not sure about the SATA ports. I am using an Atom 510 with Intel NM10 chipset which is working well (the Gigabyte GA-D510UD). It would be quite a bit cheaper than the Asus board that you are considering. If you already have the Asus board, then try the unRAID basic (free) version to test hardware compatibility before investing too much effort. Good luck with the build.
March 25, 201115 yr Author Hello, So, I went ahead and did it... Built a new config. The hardware: - Case: Chenbro ES31169 Mini ITX. - Motherboard/CPU Combo: Asus AT3IONT-I / Atom 330 - Memory: Corsair 2x2GB DDR3 1333 Mhz CL9 - PSU: 120W included with the case - HDD's: 3x WD20EARS Simple and easy build. After assembling the hardware, the setup was a breeze. Entered the bios, disabled all I didn't need (on board audio, serial port, etc...). Then, enabled AHCI and USB Boot as first boot device. Plugged my Unraid flash drive from my previous build and the system booted to Unraid, no problems. Then assigned the drives to their respective positions and all the data was there and no problems. I can say that so far, this hardware runs great! Here are a couple of quick pics. The case is really small and quiet. Cheers!
March 28, 201115 yr Author That is a nice compact model you have there. Good job. Thanks. So far I'm really liking it. Cheers!
March 28, 201115 yr Author Very nice. Your Macbook actually dominates it How much power are you drawing? Hi, I don't know. The psu is a 120W model. How can I see that info? Cheers!
March 28, 201115 yr Hi, I don't know. The psu is a 120W model. How can I see that info? Cheers! I don't have one, but the popular choice is a Kill-A-Watt device. You hook it between your system and your power receptacle, and it tells you how many Watts your system is drawing.

But I guess it's not too power hungry... Cheers!
March 29, 201115 yr Author Is that top slot for a cd/dvd rom? Hi, Yes, It can take a Sata Slim DVD-R, mounted vertically. It comes with the Sata adaptor. Cheers!
April 1, 201115 yr I would have to find a 5-6 sata port board if I was to use this the way I want to.
