HP SCSI HBA is not visible

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've recently acquired HP ML350 G8 which has HBA card: "hp sc11xe hba"
which is in use to attach tape drive.

I did a bit of searching/reading and aware that Unraid itself doesn't have any backup soft to work with the tape

but I'd like to path it through to the Windows VM and try to use it from there.

However when I start playing with it, I've figured out with surprise that Unraid doesn't see this card at all, like it's not exist

(it is perfectly visible in Bios, during startup and even in ILO (without the name though))

Does anyone have any ideas what direction I might to continue my searches or you think there is no hope left in my case?

Thanks and regards,
Sergiy

Is it this card:

03:00.0 RAID bus controller [0104]: Hewlett-Packard Company Smart Array Gen8 Controllers [103c:323b] (rev 01)
	DeviceName: Storage Controller
	Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company P420i [103c:3354]
	Kernel driver in use: hpsa
	Kernel modules: hpsa

You have to isolate it for use in a VM (Tools - System Devices)

Hi Squid, thanks for checking but, no it's not that one.

There are 3 HDD related devices in total:
1) Hp Smart Array P420i in HBA mode which is built-in - it works fine

2) There is LSI SAS2008 in HBA mode same works fine

3) HP sc11xe hba which is not visible anywhere in Unraid

Don't know if this is applicable to you or not, but I had a pair of LSI controllers, and both were only visible when installed in a specific order in the slots.  If I reversed them, one wouldn't work.

Thanks, I'll try to swap them around, even though my problem is with HP one not an LSI controller.

Just to clarify: when they were "in the wrong slots" in your case, they were not visible even in the BIOS or only in Unraid as in my case?
