Newly added disk errors?

Featured Replies

Just added a 8tb hdd to my 5 disk stash, the disk was all good when in disclosure.

after two days the disk appeared disable, so I did a parity check on it.

54,250 Errors! but theres little to nothing data on the disk yet.

Checked the SMART test and all passed. Should I be worried? Anything I need to do?

Looks more like a connection/power issue, replace/swap both cables and try again.

A bit confused by this as any disabled disk would not take part in a parity check.  Maybe you meant something else?

The amount of data on a disk is irrelevant to a parity check as its is working at the raw sector level.  Even a disk that has no data will have a lot of non-zero sectors due to the fact that the disk was formatted to create the control structures for an empty file system.

Seems like you left out some things in that description.

Despite connection problems on multiple disks, disk5 rebuild (not at all the same thing as a parity check) was finally completed successfully, and disk5 is mounted. Possibly it is out-of-sync though due to problems.

I mean the server was running fine for about 2 days before I discovered the new added disk was disable.

Connection problems with ata3. Unfortunately all syslogs in diagnostics filled up with those message so nothing from earlier to see which disk that is talking about.
