File to large to copy

Featured Replies

Hi

I have mounted a external HDD to my unraid. I used MC (Midnight Commander) to copy between shares.

When I copy/move a file which is 27GB, does not allow me. How do I fix this?

Free up space on the destination?

You gave us absolutely nothing to determine why you are getting the message, so I can't really be more helpful.

Tools, diagnostics, attach the zip file to your next post in this thread, also the full source and destination folder paths.

What systems besides Unraid need to use files on that external drive?

@Jarrodr  Google     VFAT

You will find that the VFAT has the following restriction:

Quote

Max. file size  4,294,967,295 bytes (4 GB – 1) with FAT16B and FAT32

Yes

Thanks. Changing to NTFS works.

Is there a way to speed up the copying time?

I have a single ISO file which is 50GB, the estimated time is 4 hours.

The time is probably determined by the speed of the connection of the drive.   If possible use USB3 instead of USB2 as that is much faster.

What type of drive is this-- HD, SSD, Flash, Memory Card?  (Time seems slow even for USB2...)

  • Solution

It would probably be faster to attach the drive to the windows machine and copy to it across the network.
