Is it not wise to download directly onto the Unraid array?

I use torrents and newsgroups. Right now I have Sabnzbd and sickbeard setup to do my tv shows. But i"m a little unsure how I should have my other downloaded items configured. Currently I have a windows machine with sabnzbd, and utorrent and when I'm finish with a download/extraction, I transfer the files over to my unraid server (double work). However I'm unsure if it's okay to download directly onto the server itself. I would imagine unraring would throttle the piss out of it. However isn't that what Sabnzbd with Sickbeard is already doing? I do have a cache drive, so maybe I should just download directly onto that as opposed to a share?

Load unMenu on the server. It has packages for Transmission BitTorrent Client. There are instructions for installing SABnzbd with Sickbeard in the User Customizations Forum.

Most users install SAB/SB onto either a cache drive or a non-array drive.  There is an unMenu package now available for installing SAB/SB/CP.  It really could not be much easier.

Sorry I forgot to make my initial post more clear. I have both Sab and Sickbeard installed on my Unraid Server. I guess my question is, how do i make my downloads go through the sabnzbd on my unraid machine? I would like to browse nzbmatrix/other newsgroups search engines on my windows machine, but want the sabnzbd on my unraid machine to handle the download.

So you want the windows machine to associate the .nzb file to sabnzbd installed on the unraid server? If this is possible, i would like to know also. I have just been coying the nzb link and pasting in in the add nzb location of sabnzbd webui

I'm sure there are lots of ways to do this but I just use the nzbdstatus add-on for Firefox.  This thing is super easy to get running. There is an option you can enable that will automatically direct nzbs to sabnzbd.  Then whenever you download a nzb it just automatically shows up in your queue.

I did not even know of that feature!

Awesome. That's exactly what I needed!

Now back to my original question....I'm guessing it's okay to have torrents and regular internet files downloaded onto the cache drive?

Sure. I don't use my cache drive as a cache drive. I disabled the mover script.

I hammer the cache drive with downloads 24/7:

I would say that if you are hammering the drive, you may want to use a fast drive as the cache. I recently replaced mine with my fastest and newsest Seagate 7200.12 drive. It speeds things up a lot when it comes to par check/repair and unpacking etc.

setup sabnzbd to download your bookmarks from nzbmatrix.... that way you can bookmark something anywhere and sab will automagically download it for you. Look under "Index Sites" in config and under RSS.  Look on the Sab forums if you need help getting it working.
