Server wont boot?

UnRAID 4.6, Supermicro IPMI 2.0

I just got finished re-building a drive.  The re-build process that Joe L. gave me seemed to work I got a GREEN dot on the previous drive that had the RED dot.  I the restarted the server with a graceful shutdown it went through the drive checks then stop on a blank black screen.  I restarted a few times same thing.  I took the flash drive out and restarted a few more times - same thing.  I reseated all that I knew of and restarted a few more times - same thing.  May it be the Supermicro mother board?  It's not the flash drive, It doesn't even get to the flash drive to start the unRAID software.  Any ideas?

try pulling the plug from the power supply for a few seconds and plug it back in and try.  I had a faulty power supply that this seemed to work with

It sounds like you're saying the board gets beyond its POST but then hangs between that and booting? Do you see options for BIOS setup, boot options, etc?  Have you tried them to see if it responds? Any beeps, strange noises?

I would try to isolate things. First pull power from the drives so the contents are safe, then see if it gets further. Pull extra devices. USB, cards, etc., and try again with each change. Don't pull drive data cables until you have them identified well enough to restore the current setup.

It sounds like the flash drive got booted from the default boot device.  Might be a matter of going into the BIOS and turning off all the hard drives as boot devices and reselecting the flash drive.

Yes, try this. If it still fails, try removing the rebuilt drive and then booting.

Prostuff,

It was the BIOS settings.  This get me every time.  Thanks it worked.  How can I make the flash stay the default?

unfortunately, the supermicro board has a bad habit of not keeping the flash drive as the boot drive when a new drive is added to the system.

There may be some things that can be done, but without looking through the BIOS myself I honestly do not know what needs to be change, nor am I sure if it would fix the issue.
