April 30, 201115 yr So my monitor (TV) and router are in two seperate rooms, once I built my server plugged it into tv to run memtest and make sure it boots which is fine but there is no way for me to connect to my router to get an IP per the configuration manual. Does anyone have any idea how I can find he IP and connect to my server through my mac?? Please. Right now it is plugged into the router and turned on in my office. Thank you in advance
April 30, 201115 yr did you go to http://tower/ in safari or firefox? did you try to ping "tower"? (without quotes) can you log into your DHCP server and see what IP was assigned to the server?
April 30, 201115 yr Author tower doesnt work in osx i think, I don't know how to check DHCP do I log into my router? Thanks
April 30, 201115 yr Go->Connect to server... (or command-K) Type "smb://tower" (no quotes) It should prompt for name & password. If you use Safari it'll resolve "tower" and ask for the user. Root won't have a password if you didn't already set one.
April 30, 201115 yr Author Go where? I am sorry can you explain this to me like someone who knows NOTHING about terminal or configuration. Why am I being cursed just because I use a mac and don't have a monitor right next to my router. My Damn iMac IS the monitor and unfortunately it doesn't accept VGA inputs!!! I have a $1000 paperweight, am I searching in the wrong place why is there no headless installation guide for a situation such as this!! Thanks again EDIT: So i figured out what to do and now I have access to the flash drive. Now what?
April 30, 201115 yr From Finder use the Go menu. Near the bottom is "Connect to server...". Command-K is the keyboard-shortcut.
April 30, 201115 yr Author Connected to root and it opened up the dir of the flashdrive with the unraid os on it? Now what?
April 30, 201115 yr try this tutorial. it was what i used http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Configuration_Tutorial Edit: if you honeslty dont have a onitor, you will have to telnet into the server from the begining. I am not sure if mac's have telnet built in or if you have to get something like Putty?
April 30, 201115 yr Author Terminal for mac is built in telnet but I don't know how to use it to access my unraid server. Actually LOL you need an IP to use telnet so its kinda an endless circle, NO IP no way to GET IP.

I cannot browse to \\tower on my internet browser, but I can connect in telnet... If that doesnt work trying running: telnet tower 23
April 30, 201115 yr Author Man you know what I reluctantly stopped my pRon torrenting and rebooted in Win7 on my Dual Boot iMac and got my IP through there, that wasn't too big of a PITA but there should be an easier way to do it, god forbid I didn't have dual boot. Anyways I am all set but would like someone to still help someone who may not have monitor, may have a mac, and may not be able to dual boot in the future. Thanks
April 30, 201115 yr Connect to your router to find the servers IP. Or, and I know this is a lot of work, carry the monitor(TV) to the server. Now, the servers IP may change after a reboot so checking at the router may be the best idea. Setting your router to provide a constant IP address to the server will simplify things.
