Can't install package with unMenu

Featured Replies

Hi,

tried to install "C" compiler & development tools package but pressing the install button doesn't do anything. The log, however gives this: "May 11 22:06:55 Tower unmenu[1519]: gawk: ./990-unmenu-wget.awk:1056: fatal: can't open two way socket `/inet/tcp/0/slackware.oregonstate.edu/80' for input/output (No such file or directory)".

Can anyone explain?

Thank you

Have you tried again? Might be a temporary problem at OSU. Firewall at your end?

Tried several times but no luck. btw, this is not the first package that I installed. The only change from before is that I set a static ip.

sounds like Oregon State might be having problems.

What happens when you click on the link in the package for the files you need to download? Can you download them yourself.

You might not have set the network gateway, or set the DNS server.  Those need to be set manually now that you are not using DHCP.

I am able to download all individual files on that page, but nothing comes back if I press the button. The new web page is created but is almost empty with one or two lines that make no sense in the page (will post tonight).

Tried mail package and got the same result but something else (forgot what) was successful. IP setting are fine (including Gateway).

If it worked before going to a static address then that does seem suspect.

Using leading zeroes? ("010") Lots of funky string decoding falls apart with these.

Try DHCP again to test?

As I said earlier...

What happens when you type:

ping -c 5 slackware.oregonstate.edu

when happens when you type:

net lookup slackware.oregonstate.edu

Hi Joe,

ping -c slackware.oregonstate.edu -> bad numbers of packets to transmit

net lookup slackware.oregonstate.edu -> 140.211.166.134

Let me change back to static ip; will post results later.

with static ip:

ping -c 5 slackware.oregonstate.edu -> unknown host slackware.oregonstate.edu

net lookup slackware.oregonstate.edu -> nothing happens...back to prompt

there you go. You do not have a dns server o

properly defined.

Added new line into the network.cfg file:

DNS_SERVER1=192.168.1.1

and everything works fine now....

Not sure why that line was not there originally....

When you assigned a static IP address, you needed to fill it in.  You did not.

Glad you figured it out...  (it is exactly what I said in my first post to you)

The unRAID WebGUI has a box to fill in DNS on the same page where a static IP address is set. Why are you editing the network.cfg file?

The shorthest answer is: My network.cfg file (via UnMenu GUI) showed only these lines as available:

USE_DHCP=

IPADDR=

NETMASK=

GATEWAY=

and I had to manually add:

DNS_SERVER1=

I am confused as much as you.....

The config page in unRAID has fields for DNS servers.  If you had used it instead of editing the file directly, and populated the DNS fields, odds are the network.cfg would have had DNS entries written.

Yeah, like Joe said. Go to the "unRAID Main" page, select the "Settings" tab, and look for "Network Settings". There are entry fields for IP address, DNS, etc. You will have fewer problems if you use the standard interface rather than editing files directly.

Im must be some misunderstanding here.....My unMenu is Version 1.3 Revision: 139. Under "Config View/Edit" there are couple of .cfg files available for update or view: disk.cfg, ident.cfg, network.cfg share.cfg and syslinux.cfg. There are number of .conf files too. The Config page in unRAID does not have any fields for DNS servers.

Am I missing something?

You should never have to edit those files. In the upper left of the screen there are 4 rows of links. The first item in the bottom row is labeled "unRAID Main". This page is where all configuration should be done. Go to the "unRAID Main" page, select the "Settings" tab, and look for "Network Settings". There are entry fields for IP address, DNS, etc. You will have fewer problems if you use the standard interface rather than editing files directly.
