JustAnotherMe
Dear All, Sorry to bother you i want to switch from windows 10 to unraid. Currently i have 3 * 6 TB (windows Raid 5) and one OS SSD. I bought 3 new 16TB HDD they will be the baises of the new unraid system. I want to copy the data on the same machine because else it would take forever using the LAN. Can i boot my old windows from unraid and forward the harddrives so i can copy the data on the same mashine? Or is there even a good way to accses the old data from unraid? Looking forward Quote Link to comment
Michael_P
Sure, you can spin up a Windows VM using your OS SSD, attach your SSD and RAID pool disks to the VM then transfer over the virtual network interface to Unraid's pool. Little fiddly but totally doable Quote Link to comment

A properly set up gigabit network isn't really that much slower than local. You theoretically could set up a windows VM to read the RAID volume, but honestly I think the hassle and risk to your data should you get something wrong isn't worth the small decrease in time, especially since transfers will not be something you normally sit and watch, rather set up and let run overnight. Incoming speeds to Unraid should consistently max out a gigabit connection if you don't assign parity until after the data is copied. Quote Link to comment
