Cannot find the Diagnostic file.

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm having issues and trying to get a diagnostic file to post but cannot find it! When I run the diagnostics it says it goes to /boot/logs but when I open /boot there is no logs folder. I tried to create it and it would not let me.

I'm using Krusader to view the folders/files.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

What issues? If you can access webUI you can just download the Diagnostics from there.

The issue is two of my drives say "Unmountable: wrong or no file system" when everything was working fine a couple days ago.

I figured out how to get my diagnostic file. thank you!

Here it is if anyone can figure out why all of a sudden two of my drives are wonky.

Thank you in advance!

Disk3 was already disabled and looks like disk1 is also failing, so some data loss is possible, start by running an extended SMART test on disk1 and disk3 then reboot and post new diags after array start.

When I tried the extended smart test on Disk 1 it said it failed because it could not read it. Disk3 has been sitting at 10% complete in the smart test for about an hour now. Not sure if it normally takes this long.

Thanks for the replies!

It's an 8TB disk, it can take several hours.

You only get updates at 10% intervals and it normally takes something along the lines of 1.5 hours per TB.

I see this now thank you all. It's at 30%. Any idea why Disk1 cannot read? Maybe the disk is dead or bad sata cable? After work I will have to open up the box and see what's going on.

  • Author

Ok folks, after hours of the smart test both disks said failed could not read them.

Here is the new Diagnostic file.

Thank you.

Both disks failed, so single parity is not enough to recover, you can use ddrescue to try and recover as much data as possible from both disks.

Both disk1 and disk3 look as they are in a bad state looking at their SMART reports with lots of reallocated sectors and pending sectors.

The parity disk is also showing a lot of reallocated sectors and I would think might also be a candidate for replacing (of at least keeping a close eye on).

If I replace disk 1 and 3 will my data be saved? I think a ton of my data is on disk1. Disk 4 is pretty much empty can i swap it to disk 1 to save the data?

  • Community Expert

As mentioned cloning them with ddrescue is probably the best bet to recover the data, but keep the array intact for now, if you can recover a lot of data from one disk and less from another it might be possible to use the clone in the array to rebuild the other one, assuming all the other disks are OK.

Hello JorgeB,

I completely overlooked your message about ddrescue, my apologies. I will go follow that guide, Thank you!!

  • Author

Still doing the rescue! :) It is almost done. So is it safe to assume once the data is rescued to another drive I can replace it with the disk I'm rescuing? Say I'm rescuing Disk 1, when its done should I remove Disk 1 and replace it with the drive the data was recued to?

Thank you in advance!

First post the ddrescue output when done, also is the new disk same size or larger?

  • Author

The new disk is the exact same size as the disk as I'm rescuing.

99.99% is good, do you want to try the same for the other disk or use Unraid to see if it can emulate it?

  • Author

I don't think I need to do it for Disk3, It did not have a lot on it I don't think.

I would try ddrescue first with the other one, but since I'm going offline soon for the day I'll leave here the instruction for the other option in case you want to try that instead.

I'm going to assume the rescued disk is disk1, if it's not adjust as necessary, also you need a new disk for disk3, if you want to rebuild it, if you just want to see if it can be emulated you can use the old disk for now:

-Tools -> New Config -> Retain current configuration: All -> Apply
-Check all assignments and assign any missing disk(s) if needed, including the cloned disk1 and the new (or old) disk3, if it's a new disk it should be same size or larger than the old one
-IMPORTANT - Check both "parity is already valid" and "maintenance mode" and start the array (note that the GUI will still show that data on parity disk(s) will be overwritten, this is normal as it doesn't account for the checkbox, but it won't be as long as it's checked)
-Stop array
-Unassign disk3
-Start array (in normal mode now), ideally the emulated disk3 will now mount and contents look correct, if it doesn't post new diags
-If the emulated disk mounts and contents look correct and you are using the old disk stop here, for now you can access its contents using the emulated disk, if there's a new disk3 and you want to rebuild it, stop the array
-Re-assign disk3 and start array to begin.

In that case do a new config, assign all the remaining disks plus the cloned disk1, don't check parity is already valid and start the array to being the parity sync.

If the cloned disk1 doesn't mount post diags or check filesystem.

  • Author

Ok, I did a new config and have the parity syncing. I will let you know the outcome in like 15 hours!

Thank you!!!

Run it again without -n or nothing will be done, if asks for -L use it.

  • Author

This is what I got. This was with -L and the previous post was with -n
