Random: "This Disk is Write-Protected"

Featured Replies

I was running out of space on Disk2 so I started moving files to Disk4 using ich777's Krusader container.  After the transfer completed, Disk4 now says it is write-protected.  There are still 864 GB of space left on Disk4.

I'm not sure how to look at the diagnostics to determine what the issue is.  Any help would be great, thanks!

Diags show filesystem problems with disk2, check filesystem and then reboot and post new diags after array start, also note that reiser is deprecated, you should convert to xfs.

@JorgeB - Thanks for the quick reply.  I will check on that now.

@JorgeB This is probably a stupid question but does this mean that I type in "--check" in to the blank and then push the "Check" button?

"If the file system is ReiserFS, then the options box will be blank initially, which implies the --check option. Always begin a ReiserFS drive test session with the --check option!"

Blank or --check is the same for reiser.

1 found corruptions can be fixed only when running with --rebuild-tree

Run it again with the --rebuild-tree option.

Thanks, @JorgeB.  Just before all of this took place, I had uploaded a lot of data to the server that may have been placed in Disk2.  I did not have a chance to backup any of that new data before this issue happened.  Will --rebuild-tree put that data at risk?  Would I be able to restart the array beforehand to backup that new data first?

I really appreciate all of your help and your patience with my questions.

It should be fairly safe, but of course cannot guarantee, what I would recommend doing is copying everything elsewhere and re-formatting the disk using xfs, like mentioned reiser is deprecated.

Thanks.  I'm copying the data now.

If I do the --rebuild-tree and then swap the drive with a new one, will I get a chance to change the filesystem or will the parity rebuild also include the old reiser filesystem?

A rebuild always puts back the original file system.

Looks good so far, should be resolved.
