How to switch the M.2 SSD to another one?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

currently I have a Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2 TB installed on a Gigabyte W480M VISION W.

I would now like to replace this M.2. with 2x "SK hynix Gold P31 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen3 M.2 2280 internal SSD, up to 3500 MB/s, compact, form factor SSD - Internal Solid State Drive with 128-layer NAND Flash".

What is the best way to do that? Is there anything to consider or can I simply exchange?

You can follow the "Replacing a disk to increase capacity" in the Unraid docs to replace the 970 EVO with one of the SK.

https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/storage-management#replacing-a-disk-to-increase-capacity

The other can be added as an additional drive.

Alternatively, you can add both of the SK NVMEs, move all of the data away from the 970 EVO using unBALANCE, and then remove the 970 EVO from the array.

Is that one also working with the Cache drives?

Those M.2. are all for the Cache.
