make array bigger - first change of parity disk ?

Hi

in order to get more space on my array of 8 drives a 4TB I assume I have to replace the parity disk first.

Please advice how to do so - I dont want to loose any data

I already bought two new 8TB disks - one for the parity and one for the array itself.

You first need to upgrade the parity drive:

• stop array
• assign 8TB drive in its place
• start array to build parity on the 8TB drive

i would recommend keeping the old 4TB parity drive intact until the building of parity on the 8TB drive completes as this would give recovery options if one of the 4TB data drives happened to fail during this process.

 

once you have the parity upgraded to 8TB you can add the other 8TB drive and the old 4TB parity drive as new drives to the array.

So I dont have to do anything - after starting the array it will build up the new 8 parity drive by itself ?

thanks so far - parity disk is almost done

Now the second part is exchanging one 4TB data disk to a new 8TB disk

Also just shutting down the system and swap disks and everything will work out fine by itself again ?

Or do I have to do anythin?

Of course, I made a backup in case something goes wrong

Basically yes, assign the new disk and start the array to begin the rebuild.

I still have a problem with the array :

 

in "fix common problems" I always get  /var/log is getting full (currently 100 % used)

 

Can I delete any app to avoid this behaviour ?

after adding the second line I do have a third line in my config - will this be a problem or should I just delete the third line ?
