make array bigger - first change of parity disk ?

You first need to upgrade the parity drive:

  • stop array
  • assign 8TB drive in its place
  • start array to build parity on the 8TB drive

i would recommend keeping the old 4TB parity drive intact until the building of parity on the 8TB drive completes as this would give recovery options if one of the 4TB data drives happened to fail during this process.

 

once you have the parity upgraded to 8TB you can add the other 8TB drive and the old 4TB parity drive as new drives to the array.
